:mad: I'm starting to really dislike Apple ... and not only because of their Price-Policy ...
So, yeah I am actually using an iPhone SE as a Second-phone via Twin-Card/Multi-Card...
But, as mentioned before, I thought when the receiving phone is not an iPhone, the message will be converted into a Standard-SMS?
But strangely, even if all my Apple-Devices are turned off - the message still won't be received from the N9 ... only to reappear later on iPhone/Tablet once I reactivate it...

To be fair: What I like about Apple is the firmware support up to 5 years, the safety against viruses, the memory-management and not to be compelled to update Apps every three days or so ...
BUT - Lately I'm starting to believe that they're out of their freakin' mind!! A smartphone (!!!) far above 1000,- EUR?? - My first car did cost that much

But that would mean messages are only send when phone has an imternet connection?
That would be a show stopper (at least for me, but I know...).

What happens with the message if sending phone has no internet at all?

Apple has this annoying feature that if you ever even once send or receive sms with an iPhone device it will register that number as an isms contact in Apple network and every sms after that from any iPhone will not be sent via sms but via isms and that is apple-only messaging...

You're right. Sms' now working. The problem was with iMessage! Told my wife to uncheck it and... viola! - messages appeared :-/
And yes! - there is a list within apple that recognizes you as an iphone user and automatically sends all SMS as iMessage. But once you unsubscribe from it, it all works fine :)

So ... Now to my next problem: How to kill that annoying Nokia account prompt ...

peterleinchen 2018-10-08 13:59

Re: Re-commissioning N9 in 2018

Now you need your number/SIM unchecked from that service.
Else all other iPeople's "SMS"will not be delivered...

Hi there,

I could need some help:
Somehow I am unable to install certain apps, getting the answer "unable to install; all listed package files rejected; abort/try again" ...
Does anyone know why?

I did almost everything that was mentioned here (flashing main.bin + emmc.bin; activating "unknown sources"; Installing N9 RepoMirror; activating developer mode; installing Warehouse; installing Coderus' Aegis Hack ...

The apps I am unable to install are:
- everything from "hooddy" (@OpenRepos)
- everything considering Flashlight ("phone torch, "theFlashlight", "Purelight" etc)
- Opera 12
- Mozilla Firefox
- Adobe Flashplayer
- Battery usage

in Detail: when trying to install "purelight" via Terminal and command "dpkg -i /home/user/MyDocs/Downloads/..."
i get in response
"x509_sigverify: Certificate failure reason: certificate has expired
x509_sigverify: Certificate verification failed
Aegis rejecting /home/user/MyDocs/Downloads/purelight_491323.0.0_armel.deb: package 'purelight' origin cannot be determined --signature check failed
aegis aborting dpkg --all listed package files rejected
Compilation failed in require"
:(:(:(

So:
is 'enable installation from third-party' enabled

search for coderus' aegis-dpkg and use it wisely...

As mentioned above - Yes.
Assuming you mean "Installationen aus anderen Quellen als den Store zulassen" ...

Aegis Hack is installed, and with the "agis-dpkg" I've successfully installed Harmojifix etc.

Just a thought, you have installed coderus-trusted-repo_1.0.3_armel.deb from here:http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p....0.3_armel.deb

If you have installed Filebox unless need to change date of device back to 2015 for lapsed certificate apps. should just install provided in Settings > Applications > Installations > Allow installations from non-Store sources is enabled.

Re: Re-commissioning N9 in 2018

Hi. I was not having succes trying to install an app from Warehouse. I then tried the trick of changing clock back to 2015 and it worked! But it is extremely tedious to change date in settings as you have to scroll through months. Indeed, I was really dumb at first trying this trick cause I tried to change the date before firing up the app! As a result it messed up my network connection! Is there a quick way to do this? Terminal command?
Just occurred to me this might make a nice app!

When wanting to change date if you press and hold on month display will change to show months in "vertical stack" and then can whizz back and forwards through the months.

Re: Re-commissioning N9 in 2018

Thanks. There must be a linux command like date -s .... I tried some versions I found online but I was getting an error like invalid date. So I'm not entering the date in the format it wants. Maybe someone can chime in that knows correct syntax. Now my next question is how to make an app that runs a simple script. Do I need to use a SDK to do something simple like this?

peterleinchen 2018-10-26 22:41

Re: Re-commissioning N9 in 2018

Did you try
Code:

date -s '2018-10-27 00:33:25'
of course with devel-su?

And setting up an "app" for Harmattan with Aegis must be a nightmare! (never even tried but...)
if you provide a compressed archive with full paths and just the script as well as a xesktop file there should be no need for an "app" / deb.

Okay, how should we know.
Then my last guess is follow aspergerguy and set the date of device back to ancient times :)

Just use kernel plus and forget about those date tricks forever.
You can simply flash it (unsupported method), without any data loss, or use with Ubiboot.

peterleinchen 2018-10-27 06:46

Re: Re-commissioning N9 in 2018

Oops, yeah.
Might be that Aegis also blocks date setting via command line (it does with mount and other system stuff)?

I was using an open kernel from the early days so I do not remember all what Aegis did block!
With an open kernel there would also be no need for aegis-dpkg.

Thanks - the Date-Trick worked :)
Although I don't get what the date has to do with it
But thanks anyway.

Re: Re-commissioning N9 in 2018

Packages of software are signed with a certificate to prove they haven't been modified and come from the original maintainer.

These certificate often have an expiry date, after which they are no longer valid. Your phone fails to install the package then, it assumes its not trustworthy.
Setting your date back to the past tricks your phone into thinking the certificate hasn't expired yet.

Don't forget to set it back to now, certificates are usually not valid for dates before their creation. So websites and newer software may not work/install!

I followed all steps but when I launch Maps, the app is greyed out, I can see the earth, then after few seconds app quits. Drive quits immediately. I removed Drive.ini, it didn't help

Re: Re-commissioning N9 in 2018

Unfortunately a few months ago Microsoft/Here finally turned off map server which previously enabled download of a few kb's of data according to your GPS position upon a new setup. Whilst further map data can be added manually to previously activated setup, it now seems impossible to re-commission Maps & Drive upon N9.

Thank you for bringing this to my attention and it seems I now need to re-word appropriate paragraph in "Sticky" at start of this thread to reflect this.

But Maps work fine in Nokia 700 and 6220c, I set it up recently (maps downloaded from web archive org).

Activating maps worked for me by following the steps outlined in the first post and by using an EMMC image with came with maps (Alps)

I activated my N9 two months ago, servers were already gone.
Further maps can also be added of course.

I wish there would be an update to the maps. After using several other operationg systems and apps Nokia Maps is still the most fluent navigation app I know.

For flashing refer to
http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=82693

You meed the eMMC image (full partitioning and content of MyDocs) flashed first, then the rootfs (OS) image. Or all together.

All!

Okay, for web (almost) all. There are lots of sites not loading/working anymore due to heavy usage of JS or expired certificates or not supported TLS...

mail should work for all accounts.

So is flashing mandatory (to get Mail and Maps working) ? Post says 'flash if needed'. I skipped flashing because my Nokia is not dead and has latest software.

Re: Re-commissioning N9 in 2018

I just flash a EMMC image whenever I flash my N9 and didn't have any problems.

You can find some images on archive.org
https://web.archive.org/web/*/nds2.fds-fire.nokia.com/*
Filter by "EMMC .bin"
The downloads my timeout sometimes, you have to be patient.
On How to flash an EMMC image: See here.

But I don't even know if its necessary to do activate maps.
I have an 991250C3_DFL61_HARMATTAN_30.2012.07-1.ALPS_EMMC_ALPS.bin lying around here. But with my lousy rural German internet speed it would take forever to upload.

Of course if somebody wants to archive it where other can access it, I would do so.

Re: Re-commissioning N9 in 2018

Why:
Because I got my last two N9s from China and they often have things from a previous owner left over. Also I like to have the Alps maps ready at start. Flashing EMMC clears all data like images, stored maps, music and so on and places some standard music and maps instead.

How often:
Once when I first set the device up.

btw: I can thoroughly recommend this China store if anybody wants to get an as new N9.
