Re: Re-commissioning N9 in 2018
After factory reset I discovered my Nokia comes from Sweden.
I'm in the UK so I downloaded files from https://archive.org/download/RM696/ Can I safely flash it? I don't want to end up with a brick. EDIT: I can't. Downgrade disallowed |

Re: Re-commissioning N9 in 2018
Hi
I installed the maps from http://maps.tienda-sistore.com/Maps.php onto my recommissioned N9 and they work beautifully! Has anyone got any idea how to update the root certificates? When I use the certificate installed on the UI, there is no option to install, just verify what the certificate will be used to validate. When i checked the filesystem, /etc/ssl/certs is owned by ageis/cryptfs so i cant drop the certs in and try a manual update... Thanks Durney |
Re: Re-commissioning N9 in 2018
Thread hijacking.
But afair the installation of certs was only possible with an open kernel (or maybe I am wrong). I do not remember the command but something like cacert or similar can be used... |
Re: Re-commissioning N9 in 2018
Apologies
Getting the certs installed is part of the recommissioning process for me but duly noted! Durney |
Re: Re-commissioning N9 in 2018

he was not aware existed. So we trade gems among friends ;) The N9 came somewhat disassembled because Juice was so kind to even send me the better screen of two he had. I took the opportunity to let her install her first new battery into a phone and went through some of the setup with her. That was some good way to get her thinking into the right direction, communication wise :) She now is an avid emailer, all her friends have decent mail-adresses now on her request. And she even holds the phone correct when calling \o/ |

Re: Re-commissioning N9 in 2018
4 Attachment(s)
I created a new aegis-certman-common-ca with the pem files from latest maemo5 certs (cssu-devel) except the expired ones.
It will keep all certs which are similar and removes standard certs which are not included in maemo. I think selfimported certificates should not be effected. If this package can't be installed it is because it is obviously not signed by "com.nokia.maemo". So if you want to try it out and it couldn't get installed on you system then you need for example: aegis install hack *I don't know if this one breaks installations and install with: Code:
aegis-dpkg -i aegis-certman-common-ca_1.0.8+0m9_all.deb Effected folders: /usr/share/aegis-certman-common-ca /var/lib/aegis/certs/common-ca You can save a list from current installed certificates with this command: Code:
acmcli -lc common-ca -L > /home/user/MyDocs/certs.txt You could find all certificates which will be removed in the "aegis-certman-common-ca.postinst" script, which resides in the debian folder of that package. Please report if you face any issues. In case if there is a version problem, I made the same updated package with the previous version numbering aegis-certman-common-ca_1.0.8+0m8_all.deb **attached file is not original it is updated |

How to get Emojifix and harmoji? :)
Firstly I want to receive sms from Android phones ;) As you posted I understood it in this way: 1) Emojifix 2) harmoji 3) libsms-utils0_0.5.17.3+0m7_armel.deb 4) libsms-utils0_0.5.17.3+0m7_armel-mod.deb |

OK, I just have installed the Harmoji. What next?
These 2 libsms to install or something else? |
Re: Re-commissioning N9 in 2018
Yes. As described in above post link.
You will need aegis-dpkg or be in open mode. I guess you will need some more reading about N9, Linux, Harmattan, aegis, open mode kernel (ubiboot)... Here is another start point: https://wiki.maemo.org/Resurrect_your_N9 |
Re: Re-commissioning N9 in 2018
I installed hack-installer_1.0.10_armel.deb · 571,75 KB from
http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=90750 then tried to open lbsms-utils0_0.5.17.3+0m7_armel.deb and this is error like this: it cannot be installed. Incorrect installation package Package from https://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?...&postcount=132 |
Re: Re-commissioning N9 in 2018
Again: more verbosity, please.
What is meant by 'open'? Just tapping on it? Bad download, wrong size of deb file, lots of other possibilities... Do you have the devel-su (terminal) ??? |
Re: Re-commissioning N9 in 2018
Sorry.
Yes, I open the deb file by finger and there was an error info. Secondly, I tried this command in terminal: aegis-dpkg -i lib1.deb where lib1.deb is a just shorter name of downloaded file, but it shown must run as root :( |
Re: Re-commissioning N9 in 2018
Yes.
And this is what I meant by 'there is need of reading' :) N9 is a Linux terminal beast (if you wanted it to be). And to resurrect it in 2019 you need it as a terminal beast to install/configure. Afterwards you might use it as a 'smart phone'. To get root on N9 you may use 'devel-su' and the default password of hmmm I just do not recall, so best guess 'root' (but a fast search here will reveal). But watch out: as root user you may also destroy a lot! |
Re: Re-commissioning N9 in 2018
devel-su + password, then:
aegis-dpkg -i lib1.deb then shown: Aegis rejecting lib1.deb: Could not open debian archive aegis aborting dpkg -- all listed package files rejected Compilation failed in require ;( |
Re: Re-commissioning N9 in 2018
You might like to look at this resource for some Terminal basics:
https://iotgadgets.com/2011/10/enabl...e-11-nokia-n9/ Before typing "aegis-dpkg -i lib1.deb" in Terminal did you specify where to look for it e.g. cd /home/user/MyDocs/? Presumably by now you have found after devel-su to type default password rootme? You did apply point (2) at start of thread Settings > Applications > Installations and enable the option 'Allow installations from Non-Store sources' ? |
Re: Re-commissioning N9 in 2018
You Guys ROCK!!!
Now I receive from android phone all smses with its emoticons! THANK YOU! BTW. honestly - after first launching I was a bit dissapointed. Now I love this phone :) |
Re: Re-commissioning N9 in 2018
And you will love it even more :)
But be aware there may come another (or two) hurdles :D |

TBH I used N9 in OpenMode and with stock browser as long as possible but then went sailing... So maybe Opera may work better (another ddiscussion here on TMO ongoing). WhatsApp impossible Telegram may work in a CLI version (@halftux) youtube I do not know, but there was also some discussion ongoing (but it might be related to N900). I used stock browser at my time ;) |
Re: Re-commissioning N9 in 2018
I can confirm that Youtube with the stock browser still works. Although Youtube only provides the very lowest quality to the device. Gmail does also work.
Google has now announced multiple times to drop TLS 1.1, and have silently missed the announced dates, but the day may still come at any time. Most recent functionality loss was the Fahrplan app by smurfy. The German public transport site bahn.de now enforces TLS 1.2 and I can't search connections anymore. I am still using my N9 daily as companion phone for Music, reading, videos and light browsing. |

Hi i suddenly cant open Openrepos.net on my N9 Stock browser anymore. until a few days ago it was very easy and smooth to open the website and download apps on my phone. ideas what went wrong?
internet connection is fine, i can still open other websites and i can still access openrepos with MeeFox browser and download apps from there |
Re: Re-commissioning N9 in 2018
If you look at these two posts you will find an explanation:

Re: Re-commissioning N9 in 2018
Yeah, openrepos don't work any more with the stock browser. That also means, for freshly flashed devices, one cannot download essential apps like n9repomirror or aegishack any more. Have to download on another device and transfer the file to n9 by Bluetooth, and launch installer through n9s transfers ui.
On another topic, there exist an Yandex map application for n9 which works fine, both online satellite and maps view are available, though there are placenames displayed in both local and Cyrillic scripts. Nobody asked it, but here's a copy :) https://drive.google.com/file/d/1xbn...w?usp=drivesdk |
MAPS on Nokia N9 in 2020
I spent literally all day on my "new" made in Finland 64GB Nokia N9 - my goal is to have it as my main/daily phone.
Biggest problem was how to get any sort of maps&directions running in 2020? NOTE: I dont drive so i need maps just to know how to get from A to B, e.g. walking in a town i have never been in before. If anyone knows how to get GPS running in opera that would be amazing. No clue how to get the nokia drive or maps running. so, sort of easy workaround: Once you get Opera 12 on the N9, you can use https://www.mapsdirections.org on there for either directions in text form or also graphically presented. For best performance get to the settings of Opera 12, then got to advanced settings and switch to DESKTOP user agent. |
Re: Re-commissioning N9 in 2018
For 'maps' and 'drive' the configuration files in /home/user/.config/Nokia needs to be edited.
My Drive.ini Code:
[GeneralSettings] Code:
[General] Then grab old Nokia maps from here: maps.tienda-sistore.com/Maps.php Or install marble_1.3.3_armel.deb and monav-routing-daemon_0.3.release-1_armel.deb I haven't tested directions in Marble, yet, but openstreetmaps tiles load well in it. Also, Meerun app still works if you want to record your routes. Though, i had a 1900km car drive just few days ago, meerun was recording fine the whole time, but then i managed to crash the app anyway by repeated tapping on the STOP button. Later discovered, the button had to be slided up. |

+1. I updated accordingly the Resurrect_your_N9 wiki as well : for the very first installations of the very required tools (N9repomirror, N9Qtweak ...etc), I suggest to transfer files with BlueTooth.
