Re: [Announce] purple-protocol-telegram: Telegram Messenger plugin for Pidgin

I have re-installed telegram plugin a few weeks ago after a re-install and indeed needed to do
ln -s /telegram-purple.so /usr/lib/purple-2
After that it worked.

You need to be root so use gainroot before executing. Your error seems to be caused by that.

I've been root, hence the #-sign, in my comment.

I tried it again today, and somehow it worked.
I don't know why, but it did.

Thanks anyway. :)

Re: [Announce] purple-protocol-telegram: Telegram Messenger plugin for Pidgin

the directories given by t-b are completely different. yes, inside /usr/lib/purple-2 I do have said .so-file; however, I never manually moved it there (I didn't install the plug-in via HAM but manually downloaded the package provided here a few pages earlier, if that makes any difference; but for what I can remember, the author 'claimed' to upload the exact same version to the repository).

(side-note: but I did use this 'check' to "optify" the file :) )

Re: [Announce] purple-protocol-telegram: Telegram Messenger plugin for Pidgin

Why is there still a defect version in the repos after such a long time??????????

Every time I go online, it tells me there is a new version...if I install it, nothing does work anymore....

PLS FIX THIS, it is completely crap whats going on here!!!!!

Re: [Announce] purple-protocol-telegram: Telegram Messenger plugin for Pidgin

sorry...seems I need a new mobile next time :) But N900 is annoying me more and more....its nice that here are still people updating something here and there - but in the end people want a working mobile, none of us - you do not want that, too - want to many of forum-posting that do not interest you to get something to work (again).
It was a nice mobile - but it gets more and more a useless constructionyard in my opinion, Not neccessary to mention the lack of a modern browser and so on....

However, thats not task here....rgodinez' solution works and everything is fine again here....for now :)

I reinstalled purple-protocol-telegram, but this didn't change the behaviour.

Then I discovered telegram-purple.so was located at / , instead of /usr/lib/purple-2 .
I've just created a link
# ln -s /telegram-purple.so /usr/lib/purple-2

and it works again.

Did anyone observe this behaviour?

Is /telegram-purple.so the right place for the file?
would it have to be somewhere in /opt and linked or directly in /usr/lib/purple-2 ?

Regards,
Rafa.

Thx, this work for me

I suggest to move the .so file in /opt/maemo/usr/lib/purple-2/telegram-purple.so and create the symlink in /usr/lib/purple-2/

Re: [Announce] purple-protocol-telegram: Telegram Messenger plugin for Pidgin

for telegram you may be able to find third party derivats. perhaps these function more to you liking. it's worth a shot, at least.

Has somebody made a deb package of those emojis for Pidgin? Or has somebody got them working somehow? I tried to extract them to /opt and make symbolic link to ~/.purple/smileys as suggested, but they don't show up in Pidgin's smiley list.

I think there is no deb yet. With which user you made the symlink, do you see the emojis in /home/user/.purple/smileys ?
I would say just copy to this path, in home it should not eat up root.

Compiled latest version of the plugin. If it is working it goes to extras. So please test.

Thanks!
But it seems to be non-working, at least for me. `pidgin -dn` shows the following
Code:

plugins: probing /usr/lib/purple-2/telegram-purple.so
plugins: /usr/lib/purple-2/telegram-purple.so is not loadable: undefined symbol: g_format_size
prpl-telegram: tgprpl_init finished: This is 1.3.1+g065e0b7ac9 on libtgl 2.1.0

I have pidgin 2.10.11.

@Halftux
Yes, the latest version works :)

Thank you very much!

Might suggest optifying it, if it's feasible.

I think the automation optify process from autobuilder brakes that package (like the last one). Atm I am working on optify it manually, but it looks tricky. I could make an ugly postinstall hack but I dont want.:) Let's see.

Halftux 2018-02-28 15:25

Re: [Announce] purple-protocol-telegram: Telegram Messenger plugin for Pidgin

I uploaded an optified version to maemo extras-devel

purple-protocol-telegram 1.3.1-4

Quote:

purple-protocol-telegram: optified 14 entries, saving about 1469 kB.
So I think the package in extras is fixed and updated.
And hopefully it is working for you.

Re: [Announce] purple-protocol-telegram: Telegram Messenger plugin for Pidgin

i was having the problem where telegram was not showing up on pidgin´s drop down list, so i un-installed/purged pidgin and purple protocol telegram and tried to re install them but now neither are showing up in the application manager, tried doing it trough the terminal, but it just fails.

sorry if this come across as a very noob question, but its been like 3 years since i used my n900 and i honestly do not remember much

Type ln -s /telegram-purple.so /usr/lib/purple-2 in terminal. Seek from the previous pages, if you need more information. But for some reason, telegram-purple.so has moved to / but it should be in /usr/lib/purple-2 so make a symbolic link for the file.

It could be that you need to activate the extra-devel repositiory or it points to a mirror which is no more available.

This should be fixed with the version I uploaded to extra-devel. No need to make a symbolic link anymore.

Re: [Announce] purple-protocol-telegram: Telegram Messenger plugin for Pidgin

i used apt-get from the terminal to get pidgin and the plugin, but i cannot remember the specific error, also, i tried moving the .so, but it didnt find it, thats why i decided to un-install, i already reseted all the repositories catalogs and now they are appearing again.

so i would like to know, what do install and how to install so i dont mess up, and the libwebp too

thanks

No keys, only a garage account and I asked for access. Thats all.
After you got your invitation you could use for example the extra assistant for uploading.
If you are interested read our wiki about uploading.

I think to upload scripts is not a good idea they need to be edited for the use cases anyway.
What is the matter with genwall, you don't like it or is it not working for you? I could fix/update it or modify it to your needs.

They just need to be packaged and uploaded, both are very light.

Sounds easy but it is not easy for me, takes some time. Also I have no Pebble no clue about python and dependencies.

Yeah could be much more often.

For the future try to avoid OT. Try to ask for it in the corresponding threads. You could directly also ask me in the thread, when I don't answer you could send me a pm and I will answer in the thread.
I know it is only halfOT but doesn't fit so good here.

Install with application manager:

Pidgin Internet Messenger 2.10.11-0maemo1
purple-protocol-telegram 1.3.1-4

libwebp should install along with purple-protocol-telegram.

If you think you have problems with an installed libwebp you could remove it before installing purple-protocol-telegram with "apt-get remove libwebp" or "dpkg -r libwebp".

EDIT: I see there is still a problem. Will upload another version to extras. So atm it seems package is still not working.

Here is the optified version which should also show up in extra-devel soon. Sorry for the version before in extra-devel.
I hope now it is working for everyone. I can't test it because not using telegram or pidgin :)
So it is version 1.3.1-5 to go for.

if you never installed it before and want to install it with dpkg.
You need to install libwebp before.

Code:

apt-get install libwebp
dpkg -i purple-protocol-telegram_1.3.1-5_armel.deb

or wait for extra-devel version.

Ok, i purged everything, re installed the last .deb file and now telegram shows up on the plug-in list.

Now, i cant even send a message since the program will stop responding, is this normal?

I would say this is not normal, but it could be that everyone facing this problem I don't know.

Did you tried the deb version 1.2.6 before and was it working for you?
Does somebody successful send a message with 1.2.6 lately?
Or does somebody successful send a message with 1.3.1?

Antimage64 2018-03-09 12:22

Re: [Announce] purple-protocol-telegram: Telegram Messenger plugin for Pidgin

no, i did not try the 1.2.6 version, but after tweaking some things i was able to send and receive, a lot of freezing, but it works. so i am guessing its a resource optimization problem. but nevertheless great job

Halftux 2018-03-09 12:44

Re: [Announce] purple-protocol-telegram: Telegram Messenger plugin for Pidgin

What I can do from my side is to try to integrate newer tgl code from another fork and using the devel branche from telegram-purple.

sicelo 2018-03-09 21:31

Re: [Announce] purple-protocol-telegram: Telegram Messenger plugin for Pidgin

i'm using version 1.2.1-2 that i installed from a deb. Works just fine. no crash or freeze.

New upstream version 1.4.1. patched and optified for maemo.

Please try and when it is working I will uploading it to extras.
There are libtgl changes which hopefully lead to less crashes and maybe it is possible to send photos.

I needed to tweak glib commands again, no glib expert here so cross your fingers.

I just couldn't figure out how to make it usable with N900. It loads so long even I tried to change it load only for last fee day's history and couldn't manage to prevent contacts appearing. Wanted to use it only with few friends. How does it work with others?

Thanks for testing.

Ok I decided now to update the package in extra-devel, as it runs in general and it should be an improvement to the previous version.
