I just got it to work from the local drive.. The problem is the checksum number at the end of each command is incorrect. I deleted the checksum for both commands and works fine now

@all facing bailing out problems

i also faced that problem again and again... but i took risk and got the solution !!!

so

all you have to do is

1st edit the file to

Code:

#
# Manifest file for NITDroid
#

# Root filesystem tar balls
rootfs file:///home/user/MyDocs/N12_UMay.tar.bz2
# Deb packages
package file:///home/user/MyDocs/nitdroid-kernel-2.6.28-07_rc3_armel.deb

# End.

Now open x terminal
make sure your connected to the internet

MOST IMPORTANT THING

USE * ROOT * Command insteat of * SUDO ROOTGAIN *

Now
just type the same command

Code:

nitdroid file:///home/user/MyDocs/nitdroid.manifest
then as usual type YES

it will install the Nitroid !!!

but for me ...

i got problem for kernel ..

got the same message
so dont be scared

simply type this command if you get kernel error

Code:

dpkg -i /home/user/MyDocs/nitdroid-kernel-2.6.28-07_rc3_armel.deb
DONE !!! REBOT and enjoy ;)

enjoy nitdroid ... but ... camera + Calls not working !

Checksum numbers are md5.
I have computed them on Windows PC and on N900 itself and the values published are correct

I suppose that problems are others.

Today I have updated the Manifest with latest kernel

Hello I've folllowed the instructions from mrbilli (downloaded the files manually) and the nitdroid installation was succesfull, however, when I restart the phone and choose for nitdroid it gets stuck at the android boot screen! The animation on the logo is visible and the screens blinks occasionally but it doesn't continue.

Any help?

Try to attach wall power charger and wait.

I have had the same problem and attaching the wall power charger has resolved after some minutes.

Just a note of reassurance; on the "FAILURE-BAILING OUT" error:

Keeps happening.

I copy/pasted text exactly as it appears and placed the .txt file in home/user/MyDocs

Still getting FAILURE-BAILING OUT"

I would do the manual install, however DO NOT under ANY circumstances want to install on eMMc as doing so eats away at space on rootfs. Just better to install on SD card.

Has anyone managed to get this to work as the instructions have stated?

I AM HAVING JUST ABOUT THE SAME ISSUE AS YOU ARE...only difference is that when I try to run the bzip2 -d N12_UMay.tar.bz2 command it proceeds for like a minute or so then it says

bzip2: I/O or other error, bailing out. Possible reason follows.
bzip2: No space left on device
Input file = N12_UMay.tar.bz2, output file = N12_UMay.tar
bzip2: Deleting output file N12_UMay.tar, if it exists.
Nokia-N900:~#

I am trying to install this onto my 16gb micro and in the process I was having issues with it getting stuck on formatting (ext3) so I used cf disk to partition but I think I may have messed up on that an possibly patitioned my root/rootfs because when I ran 'df' it said 86percent full...SIGGHHH I KEEP TRYIN TO GET THIS BUT I JUST CANT.

CAN SOMEONE PLEASE ASSIST ME?....US

@both above ..

try to move
N12_UMay.tar.bz2
and
kernel file in

.nitdroids folder ...
connecting ur mobile via Pc or
use FileBox (recommend)

Move both files to
/home/user/MyDocs/.nitdroid

and execute the same commands process ..

U WILL ABLE TO INSTALL NOW . WITHOUT ANY ERROR

Hell...
I can't get this working. I tried executing
Code:

nitdroid file:///home/user/MyDocs/nitdroid.manifest
. The manifest is attached to this post (the file).

The files referenced in the manifest are actually there. I checked that a lot of times. But I always get this:

Code:

Formatting /dev/mmcblk1p1 (vfat) ...done
Formatting /dev/mmcblk1p2 (ext3) ...done
Mounting /dev/mmcblk1p2 ...done
...cat: can't open '/home/user/MyDocs/.nitdroid/N12_UMay.ta': No such file or directory

bunzip2: Compressed file ends unexpectedly;
perhaps it is corrupted? *Possible* reason follows.
bunzip2: Invalid argument
Input file = (stdin), output file = (stdout)

It is possible that the compressed file(s) have become corrupted.
You can use the -tvv option to test integrity of such files.

You can use the `bzip2recover' program to attempt to recover
data from undamaged sections of corrupted files.

FAILURE. Bailing out.

Could you give me some help, please?

Thanks in advance.

EDIT: I finally got passed ONLY through that error. Just run "nitdroid", then cancelled by typing Ctrl + C after manifest gets downloaded and edited it so it pointed to my local kernel and nitdroid compressed file.

But it seems impossible to solve the last error. When extracting, it is doing something on the background and then finally it finishes without output, just the always joker "FAILURE. Bailing out...". It seems that the file is broken (maybe?) but I tried downloading several times and the same comes everytime...

EDIT 2: Nothing.
If the problem was the SD card it would fail while formatting, right?
If the problem was the manifest it woudn't be able to download the files or select them locally (if I modify the manifest to point to local files), right?
The other one that remains is the N12_UMay.tar.gz file, but I don't see what the problem could be there, as I tried downloading (the default method in first post) and pointing to local files. Neither of them worked.
I'm definitely stuck here. Help ???
