Re: The [Almost-Completely :D] Pain-Free Maemo Development OS for Ages 9 to 99

For all that is holy...
It has been a while (as in years now I think...) since the distro has been updated and a current iteration done.
any number of things could be the issue consequently...
Even still...my best suggestions are 3 things...
1- find if anyone here has kept a version updated...and grab a copy...
2- muck about with it yourself..
3- wait for me to do a current version

Now since it has been a while ...
Just a thought....
If you are using it on usb only...
you did read that you need to enable "persistence"

You have turned "persistence" on ...correct?
that alone is the biggest culprit...(forgetting that setting..)
for working "on" a usb drive and retaining your work....
you may wish to "turn the switch on"
that is also one of the reasons why I suggest multiple copies...
ALWAYS keeping at least one copy that is pristine ...
un-frakked-up...

and various other copies at different states of devel...as precautionary... in case you muck up your own work...
Of course there are back ups and all such goodies on the distro ...
But one can never have enough back up protocol.

What to do if you wish to install it to hdd???
the instructions are plain...
and haven't changed as far as I know.

Just Install it.

simple...

Personally I never had the problem you are expressing ....concerning using a usb drive.
and frankly...
I have used it more often ON a hdd which it was installed to.....
more often than not..

I am betting the problem is...you didn't enable persistence....
why else would it appear to automatically revert the usb to the exact original settings? with the loss of whatever changes you made...?
That is a "persistence" issue with on the usb.
Or rather lack of persistence...
It may also be that the usb is the prob...
or how it interfaces with the computer...
or the distro needs updating..
or countless other possible permutations...

it seems to me though....
to be an issue which points directly to persistence setting not enabled or not functioning properly.
dead flat simple.

Huh...
whaddya know?
There's a torrent of it?
someone else must have done that....
Not my doing...
hence..know absosmurfly nothing about it...
ergo ....blah blah blah ....disclaimer...blah blah blah...not responsible .....blah blah blah...turns your comp. and /or devices into poo-sushi.....blah blah blah...
all that being said...
great there is a torrent for it...

Not quite sure why you can only download it via torrent ...Magnus...
you could always forego the torrent and simply download it ..from the drive link...believe it still works...

Given enough time I will do another distro...more current ..
If I am exceedingly lucky ...this fall...at worst next spring it should be done.

well to be honest i am a poor man living in a poor country and having a poor internet connection (jio network) thats why i cannot download it directly, i get low download speeds (upto 100kbs) and connection breaks sometimes so its good to play safe and use torrent but now you will be doing another distro i will download it later sometime.

i have that add-on but the thing is its an iso not a movie, it will take me 4-5 days to download it and there will be system shutdowns and reboots. there is a possibility that it may get corrupt then i will have to download it again, nope... thanks anyways.

I'll try to make a torrent, but it's the first time I'm doing this, so I hope it'll work ;)
SOLYDmaemo.iso:

endsormeans:
Using LiLi USB Creator or UUI won't give me a chance to enable persistence. After booting I can't find any option to install the system.
Bootable USB should be made under Linux or can be done wherever I want?

Re: The [Almost-Completely :D] Pain-Free Maemo Development OS for Ages 9 to 99

inside the distro should be systemback ...
once you boot up the distro ..the prog is there...you should be able to easily do pretty much all you would ever want once you are inside systemback.

I don't get where and how exactly .. you are having the probs from...
I haven't experienced any of the issues you are having...
nor have I encountered any probs of this nature from others who have used the distro.

as far as lilii or uiji...
I don't bother with them ...
whenever I do usb's for a distro I usually use rufus ..or (what the hell was the name of the other one now....???....It'll come to me when I am asleep of course..)

But anyway...
If you can successfully burn the distro onto a dvd or usb...
and boot it ...
then there is no reason at all you shouldn't be able to get everthing else running smoothly from there...

If you are hoping that it comes with "auto-enabling persistence" ..or that just magically the distro does everything you need ...
sorry 'bout that...

you gotta play with systemback and use it INSIDE the once running distro...
Make your copies from systemback.
Make your persistent usb from systemback.
frankly I suggest doing pretty much all you need ...from systemback.
Definitely make your copies of the pristine distro first..
THEN fart around with those...
screw them up ...it's fine...always have more tucked away ready to use...
having various stages of work saved in multiple copies ...is a very good and prudent idea as well.

actually ...on the topic...
a few distro's come with systemback pre-installed... now...
antix does...(one of my fav's)
and a couple others...

systemback is a great prog.

I suggest mucking about with systemback on the running distro ...
to achieve what you wish ...

@ hardy..
I am sure if it is torrented it will work out fine..
I would ..but I am hosting so much now ..that I just don't know if I have the space or... uploading space left for torrenting too....
else I would torrent it.

Re: The [Almost-Completely :D] Pain-Free Maemo Development OS for Ages 9 to 99

hardy_magnus no problem to help, but as I and my friend look at this torrent, the trackers are dead and I don't know how to find any working one. I can split the .iso into parts and put them on file hosting. What do you think about this? I can split the file into 300 MB parts.

endsormeans I'll look after systemback and it's options.
