[Announce] CSSU Testing thread

This should've been posted ever since we launched the CSSU.

What is the Community SSU?
The Community Seamless Software Update (CSSU) is being developed by the Maemo community as a continuation of, and expansion on, Nokia's update support. It aims to deliver fixes which would be difficult to deliver through Extras (like core Maemo packages). It won't, however, bundle software which can be installed through the Extras repositories.

For the stable flavor, please head to http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=80392.

Official changelog (maintained by merlin1991): http://wiki.maemo.org/Community_SSU/Changelog
Changelog in metapackage (usually always up-to-date): http://gitorious.org/community-ssu/m...bian/changelog

Latest version: 21.2011.38-1Tmaemo5.1
Date: Tuesday, 11 September 2012

Latest changelog:
http://wiki.maemo.org/Community_SSU/Changelog#T-maemo5

Version T3 broke my device, what should I do?
Version T3 had an invalid symlink due to a bug in my scratchbox (sorry!), to fix it, update to T3.1 by:
Code:

rm -f /etc/init.d/ke-recv
apt-get update
apt-get install mp-fremantle-community-pr
# This will reboot your device:
dsmetool -b

Please read http://wiki.maemo.org/Community_SSU/Installation_FAQ before asking questions!

This first post will always be up to date with (testing) release versions.

Many thanks! Blacklisting started working and rotation of desktop seems faster.

Good job!

Re: [Announce] CSSU Testing thread

Just installed T1.1 version of CSSU. It reverted camera-ui. Quick question, do i need to repeat the whole 720p process or just to need to install the following camera-ui files by freemangordon

camera-ui
libgdigicam0
libgdigicam-gst

EDIT: yeah just re-install above files and back in business

Re: [Announce] CSSU Testing thread

When I run apt-get install mp-fremantle-community-pr I get alert about unmet dependencies:
Code:

mp-fremantle-community-pr: Depends: modest (>= 3.90.7.11) but 3.90.7-10 is to be installed
EDIT: I resolved my issue, modest version was pinned to 3.4.8+0m5 in /etc/apt/preferences. I did this few month ago due to modest crashes, but meanwhile I already upgraded to 3.90.7-10.

Thums up!

...but how does the portrait wallpapers work, now?
Are we able to set different images sets for portrait and landscape mode, and how?

Yes, it should work flawlessly. You will have to type some command in terminal:
Code:

gconftool-2 -s /apps/osso/hildon-desktop/portrait_wallpaper -t bool true
Remember to reboot Maemo.

If You want to change wallpaper for portrait mode, just turn device to portrait and enter desktop edit mode.

Re: [Announce] CSSU Testing thread

I've been using CSSU since the start but today I have a problem. The blurless desaturation doesn't work form. Also the rotation arounf Z axis. I've always used the CSSU Features and int worked flawlesy. I did a celan reflash, and install of CSSU T1.1. Didn't find anything useful in the wiki. Even editing manualy transitions.ini gave no result. I've rebooted after each edit. How to reset the transitions.ini to original CSSU state?

Re: [Announce] CSSU Testing thread

Hey, Z-rotation doesn't work here too? Same setup here.

Re: [Announce] CSSU Testing thread

rotation both default and z-axis is working smooth here with the latest CSSU Testing version...

Re: [Announce] CSSU Testing thread

Thank you! You guys are the best! The upgrade was flawless, and everything works as intended so far. I can't comment on any rotation issues, because I have my device locked down tight in landscape mode, and intend to keep it that way. No problems here.

You shouldn't use apt-get to upgrade the CSSU. HAM is the only supported method, it's the safest method, and the developers are actively asking you to use it. So why don't you?

Re: [Announce] CSSU Testing thread

...if we could switch the runlevel ("init 3") easily, my guess is that apt-get upgrade would be safe as well. HAM is just slow as molasses, doesn't support multiple selections, and one dev IIRC mentioned that the code is awkward.

Re: [Announce] CSSU Testing thread

updated via FAM last night.. everything is O.K ;)

1. camera- not as smooth as CSSU-Testing v1

2. rotation very stable :).

Ok I can report, that after several restarts and reseting transitions.ini with CSSU Features it finaly works as it should.

Why? Here is why. Can you store installed packages to the phone with HAM? apt-get install/upgrade -d or apt-get -o dir::cache=(download location) install/upgrade can. ;)

Re: [Announce] CSSU Testing thread

Hi,
I have also a problem with transitions.ini after the upgrade - it messes up probably with some themes.
PROBLEM:
I always press 'restore default', it exists, but next time I try to enter the configuration it is the same complain. After reboot, it is again and again the same. Caught in a loop with edit disabled and mess in the desktop. Fortunately, I got out by deinstall of themes and the customizer.
Repeated install and use of theme-customizer and an-DROID theme reproduced the problem

Details:
INFO: the app found a settings file in the theme folder. the app will update both system and theme files with any changes requested
INFO: Reading the configuration from a theme folder
question about fix/restore and exit
It repeats when an-DROID theme is active, default two themes are ok. I will try other themes...
EDIT: cloudy-blue-sky is also incompatible. Moreover, I got to problems with cpu: image-viewer's got crazy, it takes 90% and cannot display most of my pictures copied from before reflash.
EDIT2: Fixing inside the theme helped to get to cssu features config menu

Also wiki says we can install using apt-get :)

Please could you look into this and solve it please thanks in advance!

Rotate desired image by 90 degrees counterclockwise.

Thanks arcean but as you might know that doesnt work either as when first the portrait wallpaper was introduced this problem arrised then too but then later it was sorted and it was working fine also it was possible to set portrait wallpapers straight through photo gallery if your phone was in portrait! Hence its already been done before it just needs to be reintroduced again (exactly how apple does it and claims to be the first-lol). MAG is a genius so im sure it will be done soon!

Re: [Announce] CSSU Testing thread

So, I did an apt-get update and installed the cssu-pr package to pull in the updates, and it all seems to be working well. I'm still seeing a bunch of packages showing up from the Nokia PR1.3.1 update (I think?). Is it safe after this update to pull these in too? If not, how can I get apt-get to ignore these? I'd hate to have to pin all of them. :P

Output of apt-get -s upgrade:

Running (Lates)Testing flavor and I noticed that the SMS messages keep on dissappearing. And sometimes the message being sent tould fail and when that happens the sms is gone from the conversations and you sometimes need to restart the phone multiple times before you can see the sms again with an X mark on it. Anyone experiencing this?

I haven't seen it do that with the latest CSSU, but I've seen it do it before back in PR 1.2. It's an indicator that your sms database is corrupt. If you do a db dump/convert it usually fixes the problem.

Update to testing corrupted rtcom-eventlogger/el-v1.db here, too. It did not log phone calls anymore. Recovered as per previous posts recreating it via DB dump. Everything else seems ok.

I think it's okay to update - I did anyway, and haven't seen any issues. Those are just the various region-specific settings, so shouldn't have any conflict with the (global) CSSU.

No problems so far. Email seems more stable and rotation snappier.

There's a race condition somewhere in the event logger code, where if you get calls or sms in just the right window it can screw up the database. I've had it happen a couple times before I updated to CSSU. It stopped happening for me when I removed the desktop conversation widget , along with several other problems, like hildon-desktop running at 100% randomly. I sometimes miss having that widget, but since I've disabled it, I've had 0 db corruptions and no random cpu spins from the desktop app.

One thing I did notice before disabling the widget: When I killed hildon-desktop or rebooted the device, as soon as the desktop came up again I'd get a sms message. That's what lead me to suspect sms reception was part of the desktop issues, and/or to try disabling the conversations widget.

Re: [Announce] CSSU Testing thread

Just to keep you up on the subject from the old thread:

I've had only one crash of email the whole week and didn't reboot for about 7 days. Seems it got fixed by deleting the local cache files.

Just as I was about to turn offline IMAP back on, the new release was available, so there's no reason to keep testing the old ;)
Still I did delete the cache folders once more before turning offline IMAP back on. Haven't had any crashes the last 24h.
