New mobile phone: Oppo Mobile - Find 5 (worlds first 1080p 441ppi screen!)

http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget....1347721967.jpg

The first mobile with 1080p screen, 5inch...

Quote:

Not sure how this slipped under our radar, but recently Oppo Mobile CEO Chen Mingyong teased that his upcoming flagship phone, the Find 5, will again feature a non-removable but "certainly big enough" battery (for the sake of anti-counterfeiting and, consequently, safety) as well as a 1080p, 441ppi display. That's right, 441ppi! We're finally getting a phone with a display that's impossibly sharper than the 326ppi on the latest iPhones (up to 4-inch, 1,136 x 640), the 331ppi on the Nokia Lumia 920 (4.5-inch, 1,280 x 768) or even the 342ppi on the Sony Xperia acro S and the Xiaomi Phone 2 (4.3-inch, 1,280 x 720).

Assuming Chen's talking about a 1,920 x 1,080 resolution, a quick calculation based on these two numbers would give us a 5-inch screen size, which matches what LG Display announced back in May. Taking into account that a reliable source of ours got to see HTC's 5-inch 6435LVW phablet recently, this would make the Find 5 unofficially the second device to receive the same full HD panel. Still, there's a significant difference inside these two phones: Chen had previously mentioned that the Find 5 will be joining the quad-core APQ8064 party, while the HTC device appears to sport the dual-core, LTE-enabled MSM8960. Speaking of which, the same source informed us that much like the Flyer, HTC's 6435LVW will also feature N-trig stylus technology. Will Oppo follow in the same footsteps? And will it bring back the slide-out keyboard à la Find X903 (pictured above)? Go on, Mr. Chen, tell us more.

DUN DUN DUN DUN DUN Loving the idea of a brushed alloy body for the keyboard DUN DUN DUN DUN

I wont keep that up ;)

What is the OS?

EDIT: never mind, they seem to be android based. They do have a a good eye for design, when looking at their previous handests, don't they?

Its android indeed, well, open up the bootloader and Nemo on it and youre good to go I guess :P

But that device could be the successor of the N900 :)
Looks almost the same if you ask me with the N950 keyboard

The would be a great update from the note.

Re: New mobile phone: Oppo Mobile - Find 5 (with hw keyb and 1080p 441ppi screen!)

What's the point?

I rather have a 1376 x 720 resolution on a 5.5 inch glass.
Total density is 282 ppi. Or in other words, the same as 441 ppi according to the average/proper user.

Just make sure its on Gorilla Glass2 with RGB-SLCD2-IPS-In Cell touchscreen.
And give 2mm bezel on each portrait sides.
And only 15mm bezel on each landscape sides.

Voila!
tiny Phone with LARGE screen.

Well it looks like oppo have good standards for build quality...

If their Finder phones are anything to go by, then Gorilla glass should not be a problem

In that image, it certainly looks like a render. But when you look at the Finder in the nail test and the previous Find keyboard phones, it looks like this is/will be an accurate portrail of the device

Cheers.

I wonder how phones get scratched and even broken when most of them work fine as a hammer replacement.

Just some bloke who likes boats. Poor fella never has any luck with them... If he asks to take you for a ride, just politely decline the offer.

The Smarterphone acquisition is interesting as till date there isn't much concrete info on it yet...

The most reliable rumours have speculated that the acquisition was for the talent in there which is currently working on S40...Maybe new S40 phones will reveal if there is any footprint from Smarterphone...

I'm not to familiar with oppo. Do they deliver worldwide or this Asia only?

MINKIN2 2012-09-16 20:42

Re: New mobile phone: Oppo Mobile - Find 5 (with hw keyb and 1080p 441ppi screen!)

Primarily Asia sadly, but as I have been reading up on them it appears as though their reputation in europe has been increasing over the last 2years. In that time they have been pushing phones out that have some amazing specs (ie worlds thinnest phone & lush designs) along with this more recent announcement that has hit global interests.

Oppo do seem to be hot on the heals of ZTE and Huawei in this new wave of Oriental companies making there way into the western markets. They are certainly allowing this rise in awareness to gain traction no doubt speculating on the demand from us western users.

Only time will tell if they do choose to go for a worldwide release.

I can you see it HtheB. It has an LCD screen with a speaker hole at the top, a pin hole mic at the bottom and icon buttons that are square with rounded corners. Heck, even that antenna would give you signal problems if you hold the device the wrong way.

Apple should sue!

;)

Actually the new OPPO Find 5 looks iPhone-ish
(http://www.tomshardware.com/news/Opp...oid,17494.html).

The picture on Engadget is from the Oppo Find X903, which is the one that actually looks pretty good and N900-ish :)

No keyboard == no fun, drop it away.

5" with keyboard could be all different experience, maybe no worse than e90, but no one is going to make one :-(

Android = no fun at all. Gimme something real. Having to cope with a (company) Galaxy Nexus (w/ 4.1.1), i found it a hassle to use and in the end boring already after the third day.

EDIT yes, it's flashy with nice animations and colors, Yes, it's indeed very fluid (=not "stuttering" in Lubeman simple speak). But to me it seems like it's nothing more than a mega-glorified Series 40 feature phone. With illogical usage / control patterns (regarding system / application navigation, where settings are hidden etc.). Where do i have control over the network / 3G usage and connections? And i especially hate those navigation buttons (now softkeys). Good crap! And i there thought that the Galaxy Tab 10.1 was already crap...

Oh please Jolla, make me happy by giving me an upgrade path in the future...

The top and bottom edge are nearly a direct replica of the protoype London...

Hey, Don. Love your new signature! It's great to have groupie :D

Android is boring if you make boring. It's up to you to fix it. Are you boring?

if that is your atitude, jolla will be the only upgrade path for you. However, I'm not sure they know whats boring to you, but if its more fun than android, windows or IOS? That is up to the user. I hope you find what you are looking for some day!

Don't whant a bored guy running around screaming. Everything is boring.

They certainly are...kinda.

From what i have gathered, they are the same company but both the Home entertainment side and the Mobile manufacturers operate as completely separate entities.

Thanks fot the info HtheB! X903 is nice, but N950 does look more beautiful. :)

I'm wondering if Nokia will release a qwerty version of Lumia 920, that would be nice.

Ok, so you don't want development to go on? This is a small step in evolution. Wait a year or two and see if you says the same thing. You know that there are more stuff to a phone expect the screen ?

Personally I can't wait to get a 1080p screen after CES.

Wrist watch*) TVs were also an evolutionary dead end. There is a certain physiological limit and there is little point for technology to try to push it. Other than for marketing purposes that is.
