Phone Camera Competition June 2020: Just do your thing

Thanks for voting for my bee picture, but frankly, i am out of ideas for a specific topic and discarded many too narrow ideas in the last days.
So i thought why not simply ask you to do the best with your given setup to show off how good you know your camera and its strong points.

Just do your thing!

Rules are as usual:
Photos must be taken during this month (after theme is announced) and posted before voting starts.
Photos must be taken by the posting member.
Photos must be taken with a phone camera.
Post processing is allowed but you have to say what you did.
Users must name the phone and software they used.
Users post only one photo per entry.
Users can change the entry only once.
3 day voting period starts on June 29th after 08:00 UTC and ends at between 08:00 and 23:59 UTC on June 30th.

I noticed only recently that phone cameras can be good at macro photography, so I gave this a try (you really need to see this at a large size):

Not my entry, but after I damaged my screen I decided to order some protection for my precious. So when the new screen arrives it's in a warm and save home:

You're right about that. Here's an oldie up-close with a purple coneflower, shot back in 2010 on my old Sony-Ericsson K550i, so doesn't qualify for this month's contest. That old candybar really did take nice closeups in good light. It would be retired in just a few months when I finally got my N900.

What is that? Is it some kind of succulent? Fascinating plant and lovely photo, too.

Re: Phone Camera Competition June 2020: Just do your thing

yes, orbea speciosa. Quite easy to keep and likes to flower a lot during summer. Easy to propagate but takes a few seasons to grow and start flowering. Also, occasional replanting is best to do after flowering period because then you have better chance that it will settle in new pot and flower next season.

The one on the left is elderflower wine (sugar, water, elderflowers, yeast).
The one on the right is a rum experiment (brown sugar, water, yeast).
The small barrel contains the final product ;)

Ok... many months, no pictures... sorry...

But something now... Long story behind but... i'm not gonna write it now... maybe later...:

Yes, macro, reflections, one bird, net(work) and "only" one of my millions friends here, in middle of nothing...

Shot before the announcement of the contest so this is a scratch, but that's ok since it didn't come out as well as I'd hoped. :(

Earth's two largest satellites in one exposure. You'll probably need to view in a larger size to even make out the ISS in the center of the picture. I'd have preferred that the moon not be partly blocked by the oak tree leaves, but it's pretty woodsy here, so you get what you get and you don't throw a fit.

Despite the apparent blackness of the sky, it was actually dusk, and the Moon and space station were the only visible objects so far in the sky.

Shout-out to Stelarium SFM which is invaluable in locating celestial objects including artificial satellites.

I was wondering if it's maybe winter wheat, which would have been planted last autumn for a harvest in late spring or early summer.

Whatever they are, the ripe ears out in the sun waving in the breeze under the beautiful sky are quite photogenic. :)

Re: Phone Camera Competition June 2020: Just do your thing

As far as I know it is winter barley. Its right just 500m away from home {southern Germany, 20km away from Stuttgart) I took the pic today on late aftrnoon, when I went for a little walk with my better half.
By the way, have I mentioned, that today my new screen arrived.

Re: Phone Camera Competition June 2020: Just do your thing

https://talk.maemo.org/attachment.ph...1&d=1591970401This image is very important to me. After three years of building the car the door is finally back in place and a Volvo V70 seat which I got from my friend fit inside (which I haven't been sure of the whole time while building). Haven't really believed that I could get even this far. Next week should happen a lot and I have to get the car out of the school where it has been the last three years, so said the janitor and the headmaster of the school. So in the end of july it should be on paint and with windows in place so I can store it outside. But this image was something I haven't believed to be possible.

Maemish 2020-06-15 18:48

Re: Phone Camera Competition June 2020: Just do your thing

Searching from Finland V70 right front seat -98 which bends down forward. Price: cheap. Condition: bad is ok, I can take the cover off. Project doesn't continue before I get that. Subscribed to Volvo Racing site and made a request there, found one from tori.fi from Raahe with 30€ but do not know anybody from Raahe or Oulu who could pick it up and deliver to Helsinki. Funny, I thought those kind of people would be like a lot.

Rose milkweed. Sailfish X on Xperia X, stock photo app.

In my garden, in the wetter part of the swale. Asclepias incarnata is a food source for the kind of insects people like to have around.

Re: Phone Camera Competition June 2020: Just do your thing

Not to many entries this time. Unfortunately this doesn't makes it easier to vote. Very good and interesting entries this month:
Nunsuch's pic is really impressive with all this details.
I have never seen a flower like the one which kinggo shows us. And on top there is this camouflage fly on it.
Then pichlo's entry. Even so it is no beer I really find it cool to produce it's own alcohol.
@ catbus is this really a spider in a bulb? - wow!
eson's strawberry is not only yummie but also a pic with nice colours and contrast.
Maemish's pic isn't the nicest one and I'm also not sure, If I really like the look of his car. But spending such an incredible enthusiasm and these skills to a project devours my deepest respect.
And last but not least robthebold's macro with a good portion of depth of field on a Smartphone photo...

So what photo should I vote for. I have no clue. Anyway I have to decide and so I'm quoting Maemish:

#1. nonsuch, Sony Xperia XA2, Sailfish OS camera. Cropped to 1:1
Excellent focus and good background blurring. The detail on the seed fluffs is good altouh I would have liked so see individual "parachutes" better.

#2. kinggo, XZ2 stock camera, resized and curve adjusted in gimp
Beautiful and evocative image of a flower, nice background of the green plant bits. good composition but the colour range is a bit limited.

#3. pichlo, Xperia X, cropped and resized in Paint
Technically not as good as it could be but "tastefully" very good idea and conveys well the theme do -your-thing!

#4. catbus, N9
Good idea but problems with getting the subject in focus.

#5. eson, Xperia X, Sailfish stock photo app, some cropping by Pix
quite tasty capture showing the contrast between the ripe and raw strawberries. Too bad the focus plane is not in the red berry!

#6. Fellfrosh, Pro1 Stock camera, cropped with darktable
Very rangy and pleasant capture, however missing an interesting foreground detail.

#7. Maemish, N900
Again something that nails the topic spot on, clearly an adorated hobby object hidden in a shed somewere!

#8. robthebold, Sailfish X on Xperia X, stock photo app
Good color splash macro again; but the problem is that DOF is not centered in the main theme.

Tis time it is real chestnut on whether to select something tat is technically perfect (#2 Kinggo) or sometthing that is not so but rather fits the topic like #3 Pichlo or #7 Maemish...

I'll go for #3 Pichlo this time, for taste reasons :p:p:p

I guess funeral method is easy to decide?
Just switch on the bulb and have a cremation :)
