What happened to Sailfish Watch?
Does anyone know what happened to the Sailfish Watch?
The UI looked very nice https://blog.jolla.com/watch/ |
Re: What happened to Sailfish Watch?
AsteroidOS happened? :)

Re: What happened to Sailfish Watch?
They probably smartly decided to not release yet another device that will not see an uptake or purchase beyond the few folks in this forum.

Re: What happened to Sailfish Watch?
at this point, I think that sailfish is more complete for a watch than it is for a smartphone :(

Re: What happened to Sailfish Watch?
They were looking for partners to build Sailfish wathches and apparently they did not find any.

Re: What happened to Sailfish Watch?
Wasn't it just a PoC?

However it was largely based on the Asteroid OS Project, which still continues and is more or less what a Sailfish OS Watch would be anyway https://asteroidos.org/ |

Re: What happened to Sailfish Watch?
Our best bet for a sailfish connected smartwatch is indeed AsteroidOS.
Kido and others made attempts to build an sfos client called Starfish. It was in planning to release with 1.0 last Q2 but got skipped due to a nasty bluetooth LE bug (or sfos shortcoming?) regarding authentication. Jolla is aware of the problem but last news from them are from pre summer. So literally we (all) are waiting for jolla to give any new feedback to this bug or solve it, to have someone else do a Sailfish Sibling Watch for them (they could again build upon) including client. But even that ... is ... slow... currently and gives a hint on how high watches are on Jolla-priority-list. My bet, someone else finds a solution before Jolla does  |

Re: What happened to Sailfish Watch?
Some people have installed it on their smartwatches and it looks quite neat. Good job.

Re: What happened to Sailfish Watch?
AsteroidOS looks really promising. Is there any support for SFOS (yet)? Does it work well? Sadly it's about time I start to look for a replacement for my Pebble.

It's not even released!? Edit: Are you talking about Sailfish Watch OS or AstroidOS? |
Re: What happened to Sailfish Watch?
I have been thinking to replace my Pebble steel with a new smartwatch. I don't like the Apple-ish look of the Time Steel, but LG Watch R looks nice.
Since BTLE is still an issue for Sailfish, has there been any progress using AsteroidOS and Sailfish X together? btw: What are battery times of LG watch R with AsteroidOS? |

That said the client is mostly just a front-end to the daemon: https://github.com/AsteroidOS/asteroidsyncservice https://github.com/AsteroidOS/starfish |

I was in the same situation to replace my (broken :( ) Pebble Time and chose the Amazfit since it seems to have a better support for SFOS. The AsteroidOS SFOS App seemed to be abandoned in the alpha back then, and it does not look better now (last commit on GitHub was a year ago). |
Re: What happened to Sailfish Watch?
Does Amazfish has a daemon now? That was the main reason for me to not use it.

Yeah, hence the plug by @piggz : https://openrepos.net/content/piggz/amazfish looks pretty good too! |
Re: What happened to Sailfish Watch?
Looks good indeed, especially the thing about storing data locally for real personal use.
I got myself a Pebble Time Steel Kickstarter Edition now. Hope that it arrives so can try it on the holidays. It is still good to know, that there alternatives. Thanks for the update! |
