Kernel Power port to N9 ?

Hi evry One
many days last from coming N9
N9 have Easy Chroot or Open mode , Overclock , Nitdroid
i think N9 need a Kernel Like Kernel power in N900 for suport new moudel for VPN ( pptp or l2tp ) or port preenv to N9 ( because the last kernel not some moudel ) or etc
someone has thinking about this ?

Re: Kernel Power port to N9 ?

Not really, kernel community isn't really doing anything nowadays for N9.

pptp is already avail in rzr repo, and vpnc with gui has also been released.

Re: Kernel Power port to N9 ?

vpnc not suport pptp
i installed pptp-linux and vpnc , but i cant connect to pptp server

Re: Kernel Power port to N9 ?

I never went very deep into the matter as i bought my N9 because i need a phone with which i do not tinker too much (i have my n900 now for this), but isn't there a tread for open mode kernel with overclock support already available in TMO?

I think OP meant not only overclocking but also (and mainly) additional functionality (modules) and bugfixes. KP for N900 doesn't bring only overclocking support, but also e.g. new filesystems support (like NTFS allowing to mount Windows or Samba shares; ext4 and some other more or less exotic filesystems), updated drivers (e.g. bluetooth and wifi drivers which allow monitor mode and pocket injection for network sniffing), bugfixes (e.g. proper usage of SmartReflex which is implemented in OMAP cpu to allow dynamic voltage control and thus smaller power consumption and longer battery life) and even new system architecture (Thumb-2 in addition to ARM which allows to recompile core system components to use less space on root filesystem and eat less RAM and swap).

Does N9/N950 have an kernel with similar capabilities?

Feel free to compile custom kernel yourself, kernel sources for PR1.3 are avail for example at http://molly.corsac.net/~corsac/n9/s...301+0m8.tar.gz

yes , thanks for link , but i dont now how to compile the kernel and how to add new moudel to the kernel, or openmode it or add overclock moudel to it
so i want request help from the N9 developer in maemo froum

Re: Kernel Power port to N9 ?

Its a good time to start learning, google has great tutorials how to compile kernels. Currently nobody is actively developing open mode kernel, so you will be the 1st.

yes thats right
:D

Re: Kernel Power port to N9 ?

If you tell me which functionality you want, I can build this kernel with these modules, but I won't be able to test it myself on device, as I have neither N9 nor N950. Do you know how to flash kernel and, in case it's broken, flash the old one? Everyone else: is there a guide for rescuing N9 after failed kernel flashing somewhere?

Re: Kernel Power port to N9 ?

very thanks for help misiak :)
yes i know how to flash the kernel and when this broken , flash the old one
the custom kernel suport openmode ( that can chroot and run nitdroid ) and have some vpn moudel ( pptp or l2tp = slhc.ko ppp_generic.ko ppp_async.ko sha1_generic.ko ppp_mppe.ko )
and some module and perfomance you now important for later
i now this difficult and lose your time , i trying to learn comile the kernel and custom it
here is forum of nitdroid about kernel N9 http://forum.nitdroid.com/index.php?topic=90.0

You definitely need to win a N9 or N950 from the development contests and stuff like that. It is not the first time I see you helping the N9(50) community despite not having the device yourself. You would definitely deserve it, and even if you wouldn't want to use it as your main phone, it would be highly useful as a dev tool.

I cannot do anything here, but I wanted to tell that your support is highly appreciated. Already thought that when I was using the N900 as main phone.

Re: Kernel Power port to N9 ?

problem with compiling kernel with new modules is that rootfs would need updating also.
I have been trying to recompile kernel to support full NAT with IP tables, uploading all new modules etc to phone, so far with little success.
Either the phone MALF and wont boot, or, when replacing all modules to match new kernel, the iptables and connected modules is still reporting not matching symbols in modules.
I would be happy to test kernel and modules compiled if needed.
NAT is needed to fully complete my pentest suite, possibly also to complete TOR.

Re: Kernel Power port to N9 ?

Ok, i've seen the other thread: http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=83357 where Creamy Goodness posts just additional kernel modules for installation, so I could in fact buid the kernel with additional modules and create a deb with only additional modules for someone (farfary, nieldk?) to test (if you know what you want to do, you will test yourselves, if not - I can think of some simple test cases). Could one of you post the modules which are already installed on device with stock kernel (or openmode kernel, doesn't matter I guess) or, in other words, output of
Code:

ls /lib/modules/current
I'll see what's already there and what else could be compiled. Or did anyone do that before (well, this idea sounds a bit easy to do, so maybe there is a package with additional kernel modules somewhere on TMO)?

Would definately test the iptables NAT (net filter) modules.
Also, a 'pwer kernel' should be patched to disable Aegis.
Diff to elimante Aegis aggressiveness is here:

http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...&postcount=267

Here is an output of the stock pr1.3 kernel modules.
