Camera - black viewfinder...

In the last few days I used camera a lot and sometimes the viewfinder became black.
Already tried :
killall jolla-camera
systemctl-user restart booster-silica-qt5.service
restart of lipstik.service

Nothing helps to restore camera to work again except reboot :(
Anybody know which process we can restart to get camera back without reboot ?
Thanks

I don't have any solution, but I've encountered the same problem. Do you know if there's together-item for this bug?

Re: Camera - black viewfinder...

try killing mm-qcamera-daemon

it might or might not work. Please report it on together too

I'll just add I also had this happen in the last few days.
Will try the workaround next time it shows up and report back.

Re: Camera - black viewfinder...

ok, it happened again. and killall mm-qcamera-daemon not helped...
if you run: find / -name "*camera*"
in the long list you can see this servise: /usr/share/dbus-1/services/com.jolla.camera.service
I wanted to try to restart it, but dont know how..

MSameer 2014-04-08 07:06

Re: Camera - black viewfinder...

Code:

devel-su
killall -KILL mm-qcamera-daemon

Re: Camera - black viewfinder...

Ahhh.. Ok, thanks :) Will try again...

Schturman 2015-12-14 10:25

Re: Camera - black viewfinder...

Yesterday it happened to me again...
And I remembered to try this command:
Code:

killall -KILL mm-qcamera-daemon
But no results like before.... Also tried different services restart (lipstick etc..), but also without result :(
Only reboot helps in that situation....
What strange, that the camera continued working on android app, for example whatsapp...

Re: Camera - black viewfinder...

pkcon install jolla-camera

Schturman 2015-12-14 11:05

Re: Camera - black viewfinder...

This one I didn't try, but why reinstall ? Should be another way to get it work again...

Ancelad 2015-12-14 11:08

Re: Camera - black viewfinder...

It isn't difficult, so you should try =)

Re: Camera - black viewfinder...

It's nice to fault find and get the culprit, but sometimes, you just want to get on with your life. Reinstall app, job done, take pic, be happy! :)

I went to make a call this morning, pressed phone icon, fk all happened, tried again, app crashed without opening. A quick 'pkcon install blah-blah! - call made, new double glazed window delivered, fitting it in 15 minutes time!, after smoke and coffee!

Reinstall Schturmy and enjoy the rest of your day! ;)

Re: Camera - black viewfinder...

I've got the same problem too, tried reinstalling jolla-camera, didn't work. I also thought it was btrfs problem, but no help there either. Could it possibly be related to quick actions take a photo??

Thanks for answer, that reinstalling not help...
I don't think that quick action will help you in this situation...
Also you have stock quick action "Take a selfie" that will iprn canera app and you can switch to the back camera.

P.S. In this link: https://together.jolla.com/question/...ck-viewfinder/ mentioned that problem can come from the codecs, that need to be reinstalled. But since I got new phone, I didn't install any codecs.... Maybe problem come from gstrimmer package ?
Someone know what the correct name of this package? I will try to reinstall it in thr next time.

Re: Camera - black viewfinder...

I've got more problems it seems. YTplayer crashes as soon as trying to play video, Gallery does the same, also LLSvPlayer crashes.

EDIT: Now discovered Media doesn't work either, but FlowPlayer does, something strange happening here

Off topic I know, but clever people read these threads and may be able to help...

your problem is most likely caused by full filesystem: https://together.jolla.com/question/...ious-problems/

I ran btrfs allocation, and balance. I have 73% allocation, is that good or bad?

now its good and all your things should work as usual.

Re: Camera - black viewfinder...

I ran pkcon update, it gathered a few packages. Tried to open camera straight away, fail. Reboot then try again, all working again. Thanks everyone for reading my problems.

Re: Camera - black viewfinder...

[update 21.03.17]
I started to get black viewfinder on my jolla C...
I don't really know when it started, now I'm on snowboard vacation and when wanted to take some pictures, I noticed about black viewfinder on main camera. On front camera it sometimes work and sometimes also black.
I didn't install any new things, but I did 2 new things:
1. I changed battery, that work perfect.
2. I now in French alpes with with roaming from my Israeli sim card. The connection dropped many times 2-3-4G, sometimes lost connection and reconnect again. Sometimes I feel a hot spot around the camera lens.
That all..
Already tried:
1. killall -KILL mm-qcamera-daemon = not help
2. Reinstalling camera app = not help
3. Removing camera app + reboot + reinstalling camera app = not help
4. Disabling all patches = not help
5. Lipstick restart = not help
6. Reboot/shutdown - sometimes it started to work, but after some minutes I get the black viewfinder again. Today even reboot/shutdown get the same result (black viewfinder) = not help
7. Tried to play with dconf commands related to jolla-camera, but didn't find something that I can change for fixing this problem. Also reset not help..
8. CSD tools camera tests - sometimes pass for both cameras, sometimes only for front camera..
9. Tried to install Camera Plus from openrepos, but for some reasons it not starts at all.
10. I also tried some different android cameras and all of them identified only front camera.

Any other ideas for fix ?
Thanks.

I have no idea if this could be helpful or not, but the Google Pixel phones were having major issues with purple screens obstructing images due to poor connection speeds. It turned out that with geo tagging "On", the service issues caused the screen to turn purple. With geo tagging "Off", there was no issues with the photos.

Don't think this is a case, geo tagging is off...

[update 24.03.17]
After system update (2.1.0.10) the viewfinder started to work, but after some time I've got again black viewfinder...
Unapplied all patches, reverted to v2.1.0.9 and updated again to v2.1.0.10 = not helped... Still black viewfinder... :(

Someone know link to disassembling Jolla C?

Schturman 2017-03-27 18:52

Re: Camera - black viewfinder...

Ok... Finally I killed my Jolla C :(
After some times of disassembling, and restore from Recovery mode, the touch screen stopped to react... It go to the page where user should choose the language and I can't do nothing...
I disassembled phone again, but didn't find something not connected or damaged... Probably I killed my phone some how... :(
I returned to use the Jolla 1 for now and waiting for official Sony Experia with full sailfish os.

End of story...

Re: Camera - black viewfinder...

Old issue but it hits me on my OP3 running 2.1.4.12, unfortunately its persistent here. Happened before on Sony X but from time to time.

Any ideas how to break it down? Which port packages are relevant for the camera?
