Maemo or Harmattan? :)

Maemo is Harmattan, Harmattan is Maemo 6, as collector I thought you know that.

As it shows maemo 2 in your picture, it's likely to be some successor to 770.

Re: New Nokia Prototype???

N900/Maemo 5 also uses Linux 2.6.28. "-maemo2" is the kernel EXTRAVERSION name and does not necessarily refer to the Maemo version. Based on the kernel version and build date, I'd guess that it's based on Fremantle or an early version of Harmattan (Maemo 6, pre-MeeGo). It could be a Columbus/RM-581, Dali/RM-680 (N950) or RM-660.

Good luck booting the OS without an initrd! ;)

maemo2 is only suffix of kernel. Doesn't have to mean it's the maemo2 version. Just like N900 kernel does have omap1 suffix for the kernel....

So this is the second version of the kernel adapted for maemo.

Just post the damn pictures... Instead of thinking that you are the man ;)

Even with a look inside the OS, it gains me nothing actually ;)

Looks like Columbus - N8 HW design predecessor.

I guess it's the successor of N900 with N8 form factor - a great 12MP camera with Xenon flash, and runs Maemo 6.

So N900 (or Internet Tablet series, although it's no longer called that name) has successors planned:

- With the keyboard removed and camera focused like N8, but running Maemo 6

- With keyboard remained and also 12MP camera but with LED flash, N9 (Dali-N950)

Then god knows why they shipped with Symbian^3 (N8) and Intel stepped in delayed to MeeGo era then EFlop killed them all in one hit.

Not N8 prototype - RM-581 Columbus Maemo 6 device.
Quote:

The design of the Columbus is similar to the Symbian^3 based Nokia N8 that was released in April 2010. After abandoning Columbus, the design was decided to be used in Symbian phones. This was an astonishment for the Maemo team.

All Nokia prototype phones are called "Zero" (like N0 N00 or C0 C00 etc.)

I think tomorrow package will arrive.
I don't have battery :( it's BL-4D for the device.
If i use BV-4D it will boot? just voltage 3.7 vs 3.8
is it dangerous?

Cool!
How is the reactivity? Is it as fluid as N900?

Re: Nokia RM-581 codename "Columbus" First Harmattan Prototype S1.2

How similar to Nokia N8 is it? Would it be possible to backup the OS from the prototype, and then try to port it to an ordinary N8?
Thank you.

Thank you.

It might actually have closer hardware to Nokia N900 due to kernel version, but it's just a wild guess. Would be really interesting to check if n950 can backup the rootfs and upload it (dd should work fine).

I don't see any terminal console and micro usb port.

I just want to cry when I see people are devoted to this Maemo OS and am one of them and hope this pal will succeed and show us a full prototype functioning well and make us proud..

I can't wait to see one with fill capacity and full power faster Processor

Re: Nokia RM-581 codename "Columbus" First Harmattan Prototype S1.2

Someone pointed already in this thread but yeah, that device was as a early development hw in harmattan (and it was used for symbian development) but was never intended to be sold.

If my memory serves me, there was only openvr graphics drivers and no linux support for that thingie so no gles and thus, meegotouch wouldnt run very well on that..
