Skype... RIP?

So just got pinged by Skye that they're "retiring" old versions and I should update. Like the Skype for the n810 will ever get an update! Is this sweet old Skype client going to go radio silent? I assume there are no options. :-(

hmm...as I suspected.

gtalk for the n810 n800 is the other immediate failsafe option.

Possibly Skype or something different (if something is available) via easy deb or deblet or possibly another different os environment may be functional.

I'd suggest playing around and seeing what will or can work.
Fun exploration if you have the time.

It's not dead just yet.

I received that same message, but realized it was because I was using IM+ on an old phone I was playing with.

and IM+ no longer works (well the skype part doesn't) it doesn't let you login.

I just used skype on my Nokia N800 this morning (Sept 2014) and it worked just fine.

we'll see if they turn it off eventually.

I certainly was not able to make (paid PSTN) calls last time I tried.
But I have my own XMPP and SIP servers, and I have a solution
cobbled together which suffices.

Hmm....I do hope they overlook our beloved n8x0's ...
but it is a hope...
if we crouch down low ...sit perfectly still and hold our breath...for a year...year and a half...then perhaps the Mon$ter (M$) will pass us by...looking for easier victims (device lines) with more meat on them to eat alive....(hm...did I encapsulate enough vivid realism in my analogy?)

On a lighter note ...it is good to see others still using a device I (still use daily myself) love.
Glad there is still a pulse here in our n800 sub-community still.
