selling 4x Nokia N950 (1 new, 3 broken LCD)
 

Hello everyone,

I'm selling a few of my devices. One of them is N950 "RM690" described here: https://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=96972
- device is in excellent condition, almost no usage. Comes with original box.

And three other N950's are "for parts only" - they are working well but their displays are broken (LCD has black spot leaks, see example in attachment) because I've dropped the phones several times (thus both devices have sign of wear - scratches, scuffs, etc).

One of "parts only" n950's has almost excellent body except that it has no SIM card slot protector (because its rubber part teared down over time). Another n950 has a lot of scratches and scuffs, the camera screen is broken (and has a drop of glue to prevent it from falling away) and it has no SIM card slot protector too.
Also most rubber pads dissolved over time, in all three n950's. See attachments below.

"RM-690" comes with the CA-179 USB cable in box. Also I have one extra CA-179 and CA-101 cables which I could sell with other n950's.
Also I have the "BV-4D 1320 mAh" battery which I could also sell.
However there is a high chance that claimed capacity is fake and BV-4D has 1200 mAh real capacity like the standard BL-4D. I have no possibility to check its real capacity.

All n950's come with PR 1.3 version.
One of "parts only" has stock Harmattan OS, another has bootloader left from unsuccessful Nemo OS installation and the "open mode warning", but the Harmattan OS works well.

1st n950 has almost excellent body except the broken screen (see black spot at the bottom and small line on the right side), so I did not make many photos of the 1st "parts only" phone.

I decided to make an auction for 1 month - I will sell items to the highest bidders on 27th February (if noone buys an item for the "Buy Now" price).

Historically that has not been the case. It's worth more to those that covet that device or might develop on that device - or both.

But who am I to say anything otherwise?

abubakar and gerbick are both right.

On the one hand...what is being asked for a functional n950 and serious repair-job and parts replacements n950's ...is a very steep price.
perhaps years ago it may have commanded that price...but now...I don't think so...
for years I have seen the prices for nxx0's fluctuate...up and down...
Nowadays ...it is just ridiculous ...
for example...
right now ...there are n800's on ebay
starting at a bid of $1
buy it now's from $20 up to $227

n810's for up to $494 ....NOT including the $65 in shipping...

and n900's I have also seen all over the map.

So abubakar and gerbick are both correct...

the value inherent in the devices ...
(even as a coveted device that a collector or developer or even a die-hard user drools over...)..
and what people ask for on the auction block and sale sites...
is not in line with reality.
Some devices I have seen for sale... the owners are obviously asking too little ...

Ferengi Rules of Acquisition #286:
Every price is justified as long as someone pays it.

So it is always wise to start high and later lower the price. Also it is very fair! How else should the guys wanting the item most get it if not by being able to pay more "first" :D

I could use it and thus am also interested in the GPD and proceed with bidding: 330 €. Further bids depend on whether it's the Linux or the Windows edition. Can you tell us?

You are right. However, it's nice if the OS you prefer is already installed - less hassle with finding drivers etc.

It is a Linux edition, but I have installed Fedora as I don't like Ubuntu. Not all drivers are present though :)


The edition matters because they differ by additional accessory - Windows edition shipped with USB-C hub while Linux edition shipped with USB SD card reader.
I forgot to mention - I sell the laptop only, without card reader. Other accessories are intact.

Was wondering, while bidding on merchandise, it may not be a good idea to reveal what your maximum offer would be. A fake bid could be now be made for, say $449, then you could counter with $450. But you might have got it for $376. Just a suggestion:)

@meego_leenooks1: Where are the phones locates? I live in Poland[EU] and wonder about import taxes to Poland, but would be really interested in RM690 and maybe other n950s if price will be low for them)?
Could you post screen models for n950 (or some other references), so I will ask some guy from Schenzen if it would be possible to buy replacement screens for n950s?

phones are located in Thailand, and I will ship by DHL.
As far as I know DHL calculates and pays the import tax itself, then forcing the recipient to return that money to DHL. But it calculates the import tax based on the declared price, so I could write lower price than the one it was sold for.

In polish law import tax, vat, and toll are calculated with shipping price included. And everything costier than $150(including shipping) can be taxed even 38% extra(it's no joke)

The shipping cost will be from 50 up to 100 USD.
If you are REALLY interested in those devices I could hold them for you and give them to you personally (I plan to go to Europe in May). But you will have to prove your interest, e.g. pay 2 months in advance.

That's super cool. Even if you don't visit Poland shipping and import fees within EU will be few times lower.

So I bid $500 for RM690 and $10 for every other n950.

I don't want to sell the devices for much less than I bought them for.
I mean at least the working "rm690", other ones with leaking LCDs cost less surely.

Hmm...so if you don't want real auction (with risk of loose), then maybe tell your price, and maybe someone will agree there.

And about broken n950s, you know that display is the component, that's easiest to break, costs usually 30-50% of device and in case of n950, it's unobtanium. But because I'm budget limited, I prefer to take a risk with broken n950 for cheap, with hope I will find displays someday somewhere(or loose small amount of money). I don't have money to buy n950s in good shape/normal price as daily drivers (altough it's best phone I've ever seen[it would be gorgeous to use it with n9's oled screen, which is IMHO better).

Well, all 4 my n950's are for sale now. I have accidentally broken the SIM slot in one of them which I use every day, so I had to switch to another phone.
Thus, for sale: one working n950 "rm690" in excellent condition, and three somewhat broken n950's "for parts only". I will make two listings on ebay later - one for working n950 and one for all 3 broken phones.

Also, Tomat0 declined to buy the GPD Pocket so the offer goes to pichlo with the second highest bid of $365.

Did you ever find out what exactly is the difference between the RM-690 and a standard RM-680? Is it using the same version of Harmattan or a different version?

Could you please post the output of "dmesg" right after boot, "cat /proc/cpuinfo", "lsusb -v", "lshal -t" and "lshal -l"?

What a shame. Unfortunately, almost two months passed since my offer and I no longer have the cash to spare (splashed it out on a present for the missus).

On the other hand, I made a solemn promise and going back on that makes a bad karma. I can offer a chance to the third highest bidder and pay the difference up to $50. If I am not mistaken, JoOppen's offer of $330 fits the bill.

If that falls through, then I will take it.

Err, a nagging voice at the back of my head telling me, "don't be silly, don't just give away $50."
Hence, there is a time limit on my offer. End of March, i.e. this Saturday. I will check the situation on Sunday morning UK time and act accordingly.

I feel the root privs are required but the phone is not rooted and there is no even devel-su.
(Update: lsusb on rooted "rm680" gives empty output too, however dmesg works even with user privs.)

It looks like the hardware is identical, except the "rm690" marking on the antenna.
