Dooble seems to be able to run on linux with openssl. Have you nonsuch checked the one in HAM?

Coming an update before the end of the year?

Opera didn't open the Maemo Leste website before. Now it opens and loads fast. Maybe TLS1.2 now enabled it works.

Will do, thanks Wizzup_. In theory, can Leste boot from a SD card or would I have to wipe the internal memory of the phone? Wasmachinemann-NL and I both volunteered, but I'm sure it would be easier to test things if there was an easy fallback to the internal OS, especially for such an expensive (and rare) device.

Are there any up-to-date VMs available somewhere?

You should be able to boot from the SD card, but it depends a bit on the device and the bootloaders.

I am trying to get up to date VM images ready this weekend.

If the current version in repos would be updated I think that would be a good browser with a lot of security options. Or am I wrong here and do niot know something? For me it seemed to work and load pages fast enough - untill I messed up something and it won't open anything.

What framework does dooble use? Looks like it's Qt5? I haven't heard of it before.

Yes! I just back from a long work trip, but plan to spend a good chunk of the remainder of the month and next month on Leste.

Expect an update post before the new year.

Re: Maemo-Leste pre-alpha announcement

You mentioned in your post a wishlist. This wish can go somewhere behind of other wishes cause I am not able to use Leste anyway before it is ready for the end user. I am an end user. My wish (the Dooble browser was a question/suggestion because I think it could be a good one possibly and because the old version is already ported it could help with porting the new to Leste) is to have a pinball on N900.

And by the way. Offer to send the crest I painted is still on. But it is as fine for me to keep it. Just made it giving it in my mind so before you say as a final word "No thanks" it is like hanging to fullfill what it was made for. "Yes please" and I send it. "No thanks" and it goes to my own wall. Both are as good options to me.

Edit: No need for Pinball. Need for Picodrive emulator. Will give all games I really need - a Pinball.

Moderators: Can we get a sub forum for Maemo Leste?

Perhaps this: "maemo.org > Talk > OS / Platform > Maemo 7 / Leste"

I'll just leave this here - as a fan of the game. Remember playing it a lot during some of my travelling, trying to get that maxed score. Got it eventually. Look slow in the video now.

(Yes -- this video is Leste!)

Is there already support for the old maemo qt 4.7 in leste and parallel also for new qt5 from debian?
So I could start packaging old qt4.7 apps for maemo leste and release new ones with qt5 for maemo leste.
Or do you need help to compile qt4.7 I could give it a try.

We are aiming for Qt5, but that will take some time and I think it would be very helpful to have Qt4 in the repository, with Maemo patches. If you would like to try to do that, please do.

However, we cannot do that, as qt4 needs gst 0.10 and it is no longer supported.

On the other hand - any help with finishing QT5 port is highly appreciated.

Wouldn't it be best to move this thread to the new sub-forum instead of splitting the two active threads into two distinct sections? I know the OS is still in development, but it would be at least equally relevant in the Leste section now that it exists.

[Edit] Thanks!

Is there any support for running under Halium? I have an old xiaomi redmi 3s I'd like to make some use of and thought about leste. AFAIK it doesn't run on mainline.

In its current form, Leste is only developed for mainlined devices. Using Halium or similar is not officially supported. Doesn't mean it can't work, but it is not the focus of the project at least as of now :)

I was wondering (if it is not too much against forum policy) for the council to sent a onetime advertisement of Maemo Leste when it is ready for use (ready having the phone and txtmssages working at least) for old members of this forum? Many members still have redirect to email from private messages even though they haven't been here for years. Just an idea which came to my mind.

This week I got this announcement in time reminding me.
There are links to mailing lists.

Hi,

There's a new blog/update post out:

https://maemo-leste.github.io/maemo-...uary-2020.html

There are also new Virtual Machine, N900 and Motorola Droid 4 images,
linked in the blog post.

If you've been on the fencing of trying it out on your Nokia N900 - now
might be a good time. :)

Cheers,
Merlijn

Personally I would appreciate an easy to review HOW TO, including being out of this for too many years it keeps me on the fence of trying Leste. I won't even remember what is "fiasco" image. My trial to install may indeed result in a fiasco!

eMail will do: (secure) Email is THE communication means for the 20's. Microsoft did not only totally mess up Nokia but Skype (strategic partner for Nokia and all telecom) in one go and we're now fully exposed ready to be hacked & spied upon and to blame the Chinese / Russians if discovered.

Hi all,
I want to report that issue #254, "Next" button doesn't work on new/edit (wifi) connection is still ongoing in the new update.

Not too bad, I can still connect with a WEP AP, but is there a workaround to configure WPA2 access points with username and password ?

And also, what are the apps you installed (or tested) so far, which worked well (or almost well) with Leste?

I didn't actually know that this mailing list exists, so I wouldn't expect people who haven't paid much attention to tmo for last few years to know either.

Yeah, sorry about that, at least we found the reason (see on github) so a fix should follow shortly.

Re: Maemo-Leste pre-alpha announcement

I have been wondering. With Fremantle people have made these tweaks: swap on sdcard and cloned emmc also, overclocks and swap configures, transition blocks etc.. How it will be with Leste? Are there some things preconfigured to make the device run faster or are these things something you need to do by your own?

For Pro1 they will not be necessary and neither for Pine or Droid, but with N900 some preconfigured tweaks to use less ram and speed up cpu could be good.

It is just an assumption but for Pro1 swap and overclocking may not be necesseary as it has 6 Gb ram and snapdragon 835... Transition is based on transitions.ini on n900 so it could be changed by user (if hildon remains the main gui... I do not know anything about gtk3 progress...) even on Leste I presume...

For the n900... sad but true that this tiny beast is not powerful enough nowadays for many tasks - talking about the hardware here... So overclocking can simply kill it, swap isn't always a solution or may not be enough... Tweaking with transitions may count but...

:D One more reason to vote for Fxtec to give a Pro1 to the Leste team. (If they whish so)

Re: Maemo-Leste pre-alpha announcement

The pro is a limited number expensive niche device ...

It makes more sense to see effort and time spent on devices that are plentiful to the point of market saturation, affordability, access to parts and known device stability.

I would rather see the effort by the Leste team put toward the droid or nexus...or other plentiful "x" devices

Re: Maemo-Leste pre-alpha announcement

The N900 was an expensive niche device too when it was released Endsormeans, at $569 RRP which would account for more nowadays with inflation. And even though it is cheaper now (though more expensive than any alternative from its era), it has become even more niche. I don't think the Proš should be ruled out because it is a niche and equally expensive device, it might actually be the best candidate to get Leste to people not interested in vintage devices.
