Navigation Kit for N800

I have recently bought the Nokia N800 Tablet to enhance my Nokia 6230 mobile phone and to basicly go anywhere on the net when I'm not on my PC. I run Broadband and a Network connection so whilst I am in the vicinity of my router I can work via my tablet.

I'm a newbie here and have just read about the Navigation kit linked with my tablet. Is it available in the UK yet? And how much is it so I can budget for it some time in the future? Thank you.

I'd just like to say that this seems to be a damn good site and may answer all my queries about my Nokia stuff :D

The Navicore kit should be available. Select UK and you will probably be given a drop down with cities, and just choose one near you. Or there will be online stores where you can buy from. Here is a brief overview of the navicore kit. I don't have it since it is hard to get in the states and it's a little expensive for a no so robust piece of gear.

If you install Maemo mapper you can download maps onto the N800 and use it there. Check out this forum thread for maemo mapper for installation instructions.

You don't need to buy the navicore kit, you can just purchase any bluetooth gps receiver and pair it with the N800 and use Maemo mapper for maps, it would work quite well...
I purchase a holux 240 and paired it with the N800 and it works well. It isn't as feature rich as the navicore, but with time and tweaks it might serve your purpose.

Hope this helps...Good luck,.

Hugo, while you're waiting to get the nav kit try using Google Maps, it's free and it doesn't need a GPS, although of course that means you have to know where you are at any one time:

Hi All
Great forum this is, been browsing through for a while now and it seems it is a real good addition to people using the tablets... no all I need is more IT-knowledge in order to be able to install Quake... well maybe some day :)

Anyways, what I wanted to say is to remind you all of the thing I have encountered while trying to buy the Navicore kit. What happened was that I bought all the parts separately and when the time came to buy the car holder, then there was a problem.

The problem was - and still is - that I can not get one separate N800 car holder from anywhere here in Finland. Can you believe, this in the home country of Nokia!? Well, now, after a looog trail of worthless efforts Ive been discussing with a supplier who imports from Sweden - I think - and that looks promising... but buying from Finland - no can do.

Dont get me wrong here, I do love my N800 and my Navicore software, just having a bit of a prob with using the said software in practise :)

If you do manage to find a source for the Nokia Mobile Holder part no. CR-86 for the N800 would you post it on the forum please?

I bought a second hand N770 kit and the Mobile Holders are not compatible so I want one too.

Yes, for sure!

Lets see how it goes. The last I heard from the said supplier was that they managed to find two models, one active and one passive. The difference there is that the active one has a separate jack for the power cord that goes to the cigarrette lighter. Then again, they continued that they do not have any price for either one and that the delivery time would be two weeks... lets see what happens.

With respect but your supplier is confused over the components parts. There are three items in the kit

1. Car Holder part no. HH-12 - common to all.
2. Mobile Holder part no. CR-86 - specific to the N800
3. Car Charger - common to both

The car charger plugs into the N800 and is just the normal cigar plug one end, the small pin the other with coiled lead in between, on eBay for £5.

1. and 3. can be purchased very easily, 2. is the problem.

There are no 'actve' and 'passive' models so your supplier is totally off the track. It looks like this is not going to happen I'm afraid.

Perhaps the supplier is referring to an after market holder made for Pro-Clip I believe... There is a thread on here about it somewhere... Try searching "proclip" or other spelling/character variants.

Yep, Im not sure at all whether the holder in q is a Nokia model or not.

It has more than one parts so it migt well be. On the other hand the active/passive choises points to another direction. Well just have to see what happens with that supplier. The supplier in q sent me the above mentioned info with pictures of the holders and those did look like they would hold the N800. However the fact that they didnt even have a price for the thingies has me a bit worried...

Im hoping for further info next Monday. Ill report back here as soon as the thing goes further.
