To sum up current state:

Missing/to do

* route from for Kirigami. The arrow pointer has to be rotated and line leading to it adjusted. While I could rotate, line leading to the pointer has a circular shape and my inkscape skills were not good enough for it :). as an example, rotated SFOS icon is in https://github.com/rinigus/pure-maps...from-black.svg

* nearby icon has to be selected from https://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?...&postcount=505. In contention, 3rd row left and 2nd row right, as suggested by Fellfrosch. Currently, epicenter version is used since SVG was available and it was not choked upon by Qt.

* nearby icon has to be styled for SFOS, after selection. Would prefer to have something on SFOS which is not just location icon.

* Search has to be selected. Currently https://github.com/rinigus/pure-maps...ons/search.svg is used. See https://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?...&postcount=505 and suggest if any of those are better.

* Profile icon, SFOS and Kirigami (https://github.com/rinigus/pure-maps/issues/210)

* Map layer icon to be shown on map and menu in Kirigami. SFOS version is OK (https://github.com/rinigus/pure-maps/issues/209)

* Shortlist icon is needed for Kirigami, SFOS is fine (https://github.com/rinigus/pure-maps/issues/208)

BTW, this LWN article covering a talk by Dirk Hondel at the LCA 2019 nicely describes the design choices made for the multi-platform "Subsurface" diving application, e.g. resulting in the use of QML and Kirigami.
Side note: "Subsurface" is a hobby project by Linus Torvalds, Dirk Hondel (VMware's chief Open Source officer, formerly chief of Intel's OSTC) and others.

IMO interesting background information to read as a Pure Maps user or developer, and good to know that at least a third application also chose the same approach: OpenOrienteering Mapper

Does someone else have issues on XA2 with keeping the screen on during navigation, despite configured accordingly?

Yes, it still turned off despite I configured it to be "on during navigation" or to "never turn off"
