Regarding which one is more magical, 3.0 or 4.0...

I don't remember Snow White being visited by the queen 4 times, or Cinderella having to do 4 tasks, or Slavic village boys turned heroes killing 4-headed dragons. 3 is definitely the magic number.

Yes, indeed; "what I tell you three times is true" :D
Three sure is the magical number in tales, literature, history, psychology... not so in CS/SE!

Back to ontopic. I feel like there are some more lags and freezes in the stock browser since 2.2.1.18 on J1.

For that I realised that there is a process called booster starting up with the browser.

Anyone knows what that is for?

Booster has been there since the beginning, its all about minimising memory footprint with the qt framework iirc.

Has anybody checked out 2.2.1.20?

According coderus's page it should be already available:

2.2.1.18 is the official version for everyone to have.

2.2.1.19 was released for the Russian INOI R7 devices
2.2.1.20 not sure what that's for.

BUT the next update for everyone will be 2.2.2.xx

I am not "everyone". I am "early access". Using Jolla 1 and (for testing only) Xperia X.

It is the end of Q3 this week, so I would imagine some announcements for 3.x, and most likely a 2.2.x release?

IIRC it basically preloads some of the QT related libraries so apps that are using the booster correctly should start faster and share the libraries (even though that should happen anyway with dynamic linking).

Anyone with better understanding is welcome to elaborate in more detail. :)

Hi. A couple of things. What would be tbe best approach for installing Google Play Store, Right now I'm just sideloading apps.

Also, what android browser are folks using. Firefox is a real slug. So far, I'm getting the most responsiveness from the browser called Puffin.

why not f-droid + fennec or icecat ?

Thanks! I'll give a try and let you know how they compare.

Fennec did not work. It just crashes. I'm on tablet. Maybe I need an older version of fenec. Perhaps one compatible with KitKat. Not sure if apps that are designed with more recent SDK will always work on Jolla tablet.

Re: 2.2.1.18 Nurmonjoki

from what warehouse you installed fennec? f-droid or google-play-store?
what exact you looking for on a webbrowser?
what is the hardware you are testing? jolla tablet?

I used f-droid to download fennec as you suggested. I'm running fennec on Jolla Tablet. I don't have Google play store on tablet.

well i have installed fennec in my device sony xperia x it work good. f-droid will not install an app if ur android is not compatible.

Re: 2.2.1.18 Nurmonjoki

Thanks. As I recall, when I tried to sideload the browser, Puffin, I noticed that the version that worked on my Jolla Tablet was extracted from a phone that had either KitKat or Marshmellow firmware (can't remember which right now). The version I tried that came from phone with Oreo did not work . Same thing happened when I tried to sideload Firefox. This is not the case with all apps. But seemed consistent with browsers which might be understandable based on security issues that might be addressed with more recent SDK. Or could be some other reason...

kitkat is too old at this time, so many newer android app are not compatibles. But you can install whatever app you want in ur tablet by downgrading the version of the app. basically trying installing the last version compatible to ur android version.
note: in this way only use apk package to install directly. not from any warehouse app.
i hope that jolla reward at user tablet to a newer android base.

Announcements are up.

Basically :
- roll-out starts mid-october.
- early access get it by end october
- final release in the following weeks (depending on how much bugfixes to be done), so by early november.

They'll be late about a month and a half from their 3rd quarter initial target.

Well, Jolla1 did get Nurmonjoki which, according to announcement has elements of 3.0 in it. Same with tablet. So I would have to take a wait and see. Hardware Jolla1 and tablet are getting old, although I still find the tablet quite usable.

The article does not say it will be supported either. It mentions Xperia XA2 in a confusing manner, leading to various open interpretations, including that XA2 is the only supported device.

Sorry I'm a little behind the times, but if you get the appropriate Xperia device to flash Sailfish, do you have to pay a license fee? If so, how much is the fee? Also, are older Jolla devices (assuming they get 3.0) grandfathered in so you don't have to pay?

I really don't see how you get that.

At the same time with the Sailfish 3 early access release we’ll also start to offer Sailfish X for certain Sony Xperia XA2 devices.
That says to me these things will happen at the same time, but are otherwise separate.

Don't get me wrong, it says the same to me too. All I am saying is that I can understand if someone may need to ask for clarification.

"Thanks for your comment and suggestion!
The XA2 Dual SIM (H4113) and the XA2 Single SIM (H3113) will be supported. We are considering expanding to other XA2 variants and we will update details separately as we start the sale"

Yay! Possible support for XA2 Plus. I do like 18:9 screens on phones!

Q: What is meant by "as we start the sale"?

Obviously selling the SFOS licences.

I doubt they are going to sell pre-installed devices; probably it will be similar to the way done with X, so you buy the handset from somewhere, buy license from Jolla and download&install it yourself.
