I don't think explaining this project fails with typical crowdfunding issues is correct. it's not crowdfunded so when the team made a decision of leaving crowdfunding way and proceed with typical retail way, typical crowdfunding issues are no longer take part.

I'd consider all of the listed above as minor issues if I'd be sure that device availability won't be limited enough I'll miss it if I'm not buying in one of first batches. as far as this problem is understandable now, I guess the production quantity is affected by first batches sales success, in simple words: would they earn enough to keep production going. if so, I have no clue when is it too late to be in time to buy a brand new unit. so I can't do same as major manufacturers stuff: wait like 6 months for price to drop (or at least to earn enough).

TMO is not a customer support forum, and we should be glad that Chen is talking with us here. As for device availability, I doubt even the fxtec team knows for sure so all we can do is hope. If you are very worried of missing out on the device I would advice to pre-order, if however you are more worried about issues maybe it's better to wait it out and see how it all comes along. Being an early adopter always has some risk in many ways, not only customer support, devices could have quirks etc. This is true even if you buy shamesung or pony phone too, so far the Pro1 has come a lot further than the folding slabs Shamesung and Huawei are pushing.

again, WTF????? For every issue or question we had, Chen personally explained why it is what it is. No proper marketing guy would ever do that. They would feed you with false promises and high expectations. We have enough of that. Those kind of marketing people created a bunch of *****s who can't think but just blindly believe. And paying for turds and gimmicks. Now even vertical TVs are a product :eek::eek:
And all this just because you can't afford it now and no one can guarantee that it will be available later? Really? How is your FOMO their fault? They were very transparent thus far and if all you have against are actually minor issues, than maybe you should have a little more faith in the project instead of spreading the negative vibes for no real reasons except your personal ones that does not allow you to get the device right now.

I forgot where but there is a photo or video somewhere apparently taken with a fast shutter speed showing diagonal bands on the screen of a Pro1 indicating it indeed does PWM to dim the display (as you'd expect). Most AMOLED are modulated at 240hz so that's my best guess at the frequency. Personally haven't had any issues staring at AMOLED screens and the likes, although i can perceive it when waving a hand in front (instead of a smooth motion blur i will see stepped type motion blur ish something, if that makes sense).

If this concerns you it's important to know most LCD displays also use PWM to dim the backlight and on some LED backlights that does translate into flickering light, and sadly manufacturers generally will not tell you whether or not this is the case so it can be tricky to find the right thing to buy. The same issue exists if you buy LED light bulbs, and there it does bother me sometimes (not that I get headaches or so but I find it not pleasing to my eyes)... Edit: additionally for LED bulbs for room lighting, they usually flicker at 100/120hz which makes the effect more perceptible.

I'll try to answer My Opinion, shortly, about AMOLED... I have use N9 at the first day Nokia delivered it... And no problem at all... My friends are still envy for me, cause their phones looks so bad against N9... even today... So I don't think AMOLED is not bad at all...

And yes... I did not preorder cause I don't afford Pro1 now... But I still support it.

And I will buy it. When afford... Seeya...

"okay, let's proceed with some productive stuff."

HAHAHAHAHAHHAAHAAAAA

That is rich.
Love it.

Two thousand, two hundred and (now) sixty five posts of comparison, a seeming endless slew of questions for the OP, pure speculation, pining for the fjords, and pointless debate.

yes ...
it would be interesting to see some "productivity" come of this thread ...
so far ...
What I have seen here ...
so far ...
is killing time, amusement and purely masturbatory ....
diverting FROM actual productivity.

I tend to rank "productivity" up there with ...sayyyy what Halftux, Freemangordon, Wizzup, Android 808, Kotczarny, a slew of others who are actually "Productive" ...and last but certainly not least ..
Maemish..
(I am positive the guy is falling off his chair reading that...
but ....since he arrived here...
regardless of failure or success....
he is 10 000 times more "productive" in his little pinkie finger ......... in comparison to the "productivity" of the last 227 pages of this ego-stroking tripe )

So yeah...
I would realllllyyyyyy like to see what "productive stuff" is going to happen in this thread..

I would like to point out 3 things, focusing on "productivity".
1. This is TMO
2. We are halfway through 2019
3. We are talking about a device that is interesting for like 10 guys that cant use software keyboards
So come on man.. Lets just all sit back and enjoy this rare ocasion, this rich 'quality material' that forums used to have 10 years ago!
The whole point is to have fun :)

Pity you had no chance to come to the very productive Hands-On events of which some originated from this thread to convince yourself otherwise.

Also you must have missed that Chen took actual advice sparking here and at the meetings into production.

But the productivity you quote is not even the purpose of this thread but a mere hookline used by shaihkritzer to draw a red line under previous grime.
Please do not fuel a fire that was put out.

This thread was ment as a collection of news and facts. Like the Press articles and videos that currently happen during IFA.
where i can proudly tell that all the guys i sent my inofficial press release to have already attended and pushed a video. Like heise & golem.
Not saying they would not have attended anyway, but still feels awesome and rewarding.

https://www.heise.de/newsticker/meld...o-4516077.html

https://www.golem.de/news/fx-tec-pro...09-143673.html

Also since FX own forum is sadly in a unusable state for discussion (posts need to be manually approved for some reason) many interested people land here and ask questions.
I would kindly ask you to endure the chaos for some more time until the birth problems ease up.
What we are doing here is 0 level support for FX.
Chen mentioned it would be valuable if simple questions do not clog FX support. So here we are trying to answer.

This is very subjective, some people have eyes that go really sore on AMOLED.
I also had several N9's and I think it has really good display, however I have one colleague who cannot stand to Iook at it (and he also has trouble with video projectors, the rainbow wheel effect makes him sick...)

I just suppose his optical nerve is faster than usual.

Maybe I've been lucky with both my N9... And I also can't watch movies from DLP-projectors... but no problem with Amoled... Maybe we humans are individuals? ;)

Lets set the record straight here.
A bunch of people "wanting" a wish list of additional things from the OP ...
and the OP listening and complying to the best of his ability is not "productivity" from the lot of you.
That is the OP catering.

In fact ..If I remember rightly ...that was one of the key reasons another project failed ...

Set the "record straight" for what reason?
Is there some kind of productivity quota to full-fill i missed?.
I did not get the production plan. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

But i saw people drive to meetings through half of Europe at own cost and play beta tester for fun.

Chen was asking for input in certain parts and especially the qwerty layout was finalised here and in Fx forum.

As i pledged to pardon, yes it is maybe only 1-10% productive in here and >90% soothing the wait.

But even for the occasional productive part i would not compare the methods of collaborative experts working in their field with a set goal in mind like the great guys you mentioned, with this multi purpose melting pot of a thread.

I can somehow feel that long waiting is nearly coming to it's end... (i here GoT music in my ears... ... . ... . ... . ... . ...)

So it is still good time to get some color-popping pictures to this month's competition... For those happy preorders, You could participate with Your Pro1 with Your best and we mortals can take pictures by other phonecameras....

And... Relax, my friends... ;)

It will be really interesting to see how the Pro1's camera stacks up to my N900, here's a vid I shot with my N900 a while back of my dishwasher: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5HkvYtARG7c

Garbage quality, even with freemangordon's 720p patch applied. Now imagine filming that same machine in 4k with the Pro1.. oh my!

Trying to stay positive for a delivery next week for us who pre-ordered early (and paid quickly)

Would be a lot simpler if they just gave us a shipping date. Then we would at least know.

Any idea what difference there is between the pre-order version that is being shipped shortly and the one being shipped in October? Just price?

One more question for those that have had a hands on. From the video that is shown on the order site, it really looks like it would be hard to reach and press the number keys because they appear to be too close to the screen edge/bezel. What is your experience?

Thanks!

As i understand it, yes just the price.

The first batch/run was smaller so it was first come first serve. At least that is what was said in emails and at the F(x)tec Forums when payment notifications were first sent out.

This may all have changed of course :)

I believe that will not be a problem. The space between the keys and the screen is big enough not to disturb

FAQ still says preorders will ship in September. If the device is delayed, so be it, but as paying customers, we deserve to know the details.
They never committed to a ship date which makes me uneasy but I'm holding steady to the "mid September" that they suggested. For me that means the 15th to the 21st, give (certainly not take) a few days.

And even if, it will be October when the devices will be delivered. What is the point? Better a slight delay than a device which isn't ready. To be honest for me all your concerns sound more and more like a little child which can't get something and for this reason this item is rubbish and the one who isn't giving it to you is evil.

If I remember correctly, that is something Chen already considered during the prototyping phase. Some early prototypes had a smaller gap between the screen and the top row, and it was expanded later just to solve this very issue you are mentioning.

Good luck for this last sprint Chen! Hope everything works exactly as planned.

I think the device is practically "ready" (which means it is treated as final), but there are circumstances which are out of their control or at least it is not easy to organize in time.

(Set up mass production including the availability of components, assemble units including handling of different layout(s), do some testing, organize transport, do final inspection and packaging - somewhere and somehow...)

I don't feel him like a little child but somebody who haven't faced similar issues and don't really understand the background processes. Thus, it looks for him as there are promises but still not much practical fulfillment. Also, he is not really know how huge this project is for a relatively small group of people and how much "mantime" such a project may need not speaking about the competency needed to build up a highly complicated device like this.

The background process is practically hidden, so efforts are not really public (only some parts).

So, if the final product will be delivered and has good quality (including all aspects), then it worths a really huge respect for them.
Seriously.

If they mention a date and fail they are liars. If they don't launch any date at all they are called scamers. I prefer to wait and see. We have to remember that not all depends exclusively on themselves...

Watched yesterday Apple event on my friends place who is Apple devoted. A lot of overwords as usual but one thing I have thought a lot is the apple watch. My father has had several heart attacks and constant problems and I have also started to have heart problems. To get alerted by your wrist and to get instant EKG would be useful. And it seems it doesn't need anymore to have an iphone or other apple products (if I understood correctly). I just think it could be possible to make a microusb plug with wires and maybe some gadget included and get the same working with N900. Or on F(x)TecPro. I doubt they will opensource their sourcecode for the appropriate software for free use though.

that's what I was talking about. break a promise once - that will happen again and again.

but I'm sure there was some very-out-of-control-reasons for that so no worries!

I'd say real hands-on would be possible somewhere in December.

The one thing I hate about this forum, there's no block user feature...

This is also possible with the new Withings watches, at a small fraction of the price of crapapple watches....

Also Withings used to be part of Nokia even though they now are French :D
