Timeline is the same for every SFOS update:

- SFOS release gets out of EA
- SFOS release has to hit OBS making it possible to work with it
- I have to check out updated libhybris, kernel. Compile and upload to OBS
- I have to check which other packages are updated that were compiled for Tama separately
- build new version
- test new version
- you can update

As you can see, we are not clear in the first section yet. By updating before, you risk using with wrong library versions which may have some consequences.

Whit that said on the process from @rinigus, I did test upgrading to 3.3.0.14 on my XZ3. Flatpack ran as it should atleast.

Flatpak should run on 3.2 if you are on Sony XZ3. we had hybris updates already way before (Jan?). Except lipstick was not supporting multiple flatpak-runner instances. maybe that's resolved now

@rinigus Sorry for being unclear. I just meant it was not broken. I have been running it from day 1. It works as before upgrade ...

Hey for now I unlocked bootloader and downgraded to android pie, but I'm stuck to flash xperia xz3 on opensuse linux. When executing "sudo bash ./flash.sh"

Get error that fastboot missing (I have all required files in same folder including android platform tools). There isn't android fastboot tools for opensuse, so I forced to install "android platformtools" So I'm confused.

I have been read flash.md from github.

Welcome! You need to have `fastboot` in your path. Sounds like you may get it via https://en.opensuse.org/Android_Tools

If you do have fastboot in the same folder, add `.` to your PATH.

In the beginning my linux skills are very limited unfortunately.

Actually I downloaded and extracted from https://developer.android.com/studio...platform-tools

When typed just "sudo fastboot devices", command not found. But when "sudo ./fastboot devices" works. So I' can't follow your instructions.

Understood. You may try to do as follows, but you probably would like to understand what's going on as well.

In this case, you need to become root, change to the directory with the files, adjust PATH and flash after that.

To become root: sudo -i

In root environment, if your files are in /home/foo/bar, set path to

export PATH=/home/foo/bar:$PATH

after that change to the directory /home/foo/bar, still as root, and start the flashing

bash ./flash

Let us know how it goes and/or if something is not clear.

I followed your commands and I succesfully started flashing process. For now I'm stuck on Sailfish tutorial (step 3) where home screen is hugely zoomed and therefore unable to select gallery app. Other pages like events seems ok.

I didn't flashed vbmeta because seems that flashing script did that already.

If there would be issue with vbmeta, you wouldn't be able to boot.

As for zoom, maybe others with XZ3 can help you out...

Forget it, I succesfully skipped tutorial app. For now everything is as supposed. Thanks for guiding me out. Time to sail again.

I'm thinking about Xperia XZ2 Compact, can someone share his/her experience from using XZ2 Compact with SailfishOS as a daily driver?

If not from XZ2c than from XZ3 or XZ2. Is it usable as a daily driver? Are there any annoying issues?
Is using map navigation without compass ok?

The biggest annoyance is camera performance, as documented in http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...73&postcount=2 and https://github.com/sailfishos-sony-tama/main/issues/46 . In short, don't expect it take great pictures unless you have lots of light and some luck.

As for compass, never used it on my devices as they all had issues with it (1+x, xz2).

On high volumes, speakers can get distorted (https://github.com/sailfishos-sony-tama/main/issues/1). Its probably due to some error in AOSP speakers data. So, use lower volume and be careful not to exceed it.

Other issues are at https://github.com/sailfishos-sony-tama/main/issues

For me, its (xz2) is a great device, runs fast and all the rest works as needed. But I can be biased and will let port users to leave the impressions.

Thanks for your thoughts.

Maybe someone can compare photos from Tama devices to photos from Jolla 1 or Jolla C. Maybe upload some sample photos.

Just to let you know: have been working on the update last weekend and just started testing 3.3.0.16 build. Will have to check how it works, and if it's all fine, compile new kernels for all devices.

@atlochowski - did you managed to get any comparison between tama and j1 photos? surely if you need flash - j1 will win. as for no flash scenario, no idea.

looking quickly around seems like tama stock has dried up. good luck with the search though! but as a warning, don't get "XZ2 Premium" - it's not tama.

Thanks for the warning but I'm interested only in XZ2c. Other Tama devices are to big for me.

Re: Sailfish OS on Sony Xperia Tama devices (XZ2, XZ2c, XZ3)

3.3.0.16 is released. See release notes at https://github.com/sailfishos-sony-t...s/tag/3.3.0.16

While OTA can be done now, images will be uploaded tomorrow and attache them to the release, as done with the earlier ones.

Note that I have tested OTA only. While testing has been limited, I have not observed any degradation in functionality.

Highlights of 3.3.0.16 is updated gcc used for app development and better support for Flatpaks. While gcc impact is just starting through use of newer libs by app developers, Flatpak-induced changes allow to run multiple Flatpak applications at the same time. In 3.2.x.x we were limited to a single window due to a Lipstick bug that got fixed in 3.3.0.16.

Port-specific changes are mainly based on following the changes in official Xperia 10 port, bringing updates by Sony AOSP team into kernel. See release notes for specifics.

As always, the ones that wish to be on the safe side, wait for others to update and listen for incoming issues.

For issues, use Github at https://github.com/sailfishos-sony-tama/main/issues and discuss them at TMO or XDA

1 Attachment(s)
Just wanted to say many thanks to rinigus as installed Sailfish OS 3.3.0.16 to XZ2 Compact H8324 Dual Sim today for first time and no problem with USB tether to Mac OSX Catalina 10.15.4. As this device had been in storage for a while had to update to 52.0.A.11.32 being last available Pie update before unlocking bootloader.

Unlocked bootloader via Mac and for once there was no output
in terminal similar to:
HTML Code:

OKAY [ 1.716s]
finished. total time: 1.720s

however upon removing USB C from device it rebooted into normal device unlocked screen and all well to proceed:

Sensors

Host of sensors just got supported on Sony Xperia Tama devices. All you have to do, is to run

zypper ref
zypper up

as root. I am not going to make separate images with it, just use OTA as described above.

Added sensors are:

- fixed compass using geo rotation vector provided by Android layer
- pressure
- step counter
- pickup gesture

See https://github.com/sailfishos-sony-tama/main#tips on how to enable/use step counter and pickup gesture.

atlochowski 2020-05-21 18:32

Re: Sailfish OS on Sony Xperia Tama devices (XZ2, XZ2c, XZ3)

I just testing my XZ2c under Android and:

"Pickup gesture switches on the screen when you pickup the phone and allows you to avoid pressing a power button. It may require relatively faster movement, try with the different movement patterns if it does not work."

It's similar under Android. Usually, faster movement is required.
I think it's not an additional sensor but this function uses accelerometer and proximity sensor. So if you cover proximity sensor or it's dirty then this function has problems with working.

My device is unfortunately at home while I am on my first travel since 6 weeks to visit my first grandchild (now 3 weeks old). So I cannot give better test support until tomorrow evening.

same as before i guess, the terminal keyboard in general is bad, the curved edges of the screen and the zcreen protector i have makes it even worse. toeTerm app has a lot better keyboard.

That suggests that the daemon is not running. What does

Code:

systemctl status sailfish-fpd-community
say? If not running, have you tried to reboot? Other commands of interest:

Code:

journalctl | grep fpd
/usr/libexec/droid-hybris/system/bin/logcat -d -b all | grep -i fpc

Those are probably longer, use https://dpaste.org/ or some other pastebin service

@pagis, just in case if I am missing something obvious - please send me logcat via email or PM. to avoid exposing some possible keys in logcat publicly (not sure if imei is there), let's keep it off the public space.

@rinigus I can confirm I see the same log output as @pagis. The daemon startup fails with a timeout.

if you turn off "Use security code" in settings the daemon can load if you restart it, but I could not go any further.

Re: Sailfish OS on Sony Xperia Tama devices (XZ2, XZ2c, XZ3)

The daemon on SFOS side (sailfish-fpd-community) doesn't matter as Android side fails. No Android lib => no FPD :(. So, it should be fixed on AOSP side...

Re: Sailfish OS on Sony Xperia Tama devices (XZ2, XZ2c, XZ3)

Issue opened at https://github.com/sailfishos-sony-tama/main/issues/76. From old logs that I was sent at the beginning of the port, I could see that XZ3 had this issue already before. In contrast to XZ2 and XZ2c. Getting help from AOSP developer who has been working on FPC stack.

Re: Sailfish OS on Sony Xperia Tama devices (XZ2, XZ2c, XZ3)

Thanks to Piggz, Ubuntu Touch developer erfanoabdi, Sony AOSP devs to provide insides, we can test whether fingerprint can be fixed by installing

http://repo.merproject.org/obs/nemo:...07.armv7hl.rpm

XZ3 owner(s), please download, install, reboot and test if it fixed the issue. Please report back

Re: Sailfish OS on Sony Xperia Tama devices (XZ2, XZ2c, XZ3)

Just got a report from one XZ3 user regarding fingerprint workaround. According to that, it did not help. As it is, I would like to ask someone to test on XZ3 whether installing "fake crypt service" RPM helps. If it does not help XZ3 users, I will have to revert FP support for XZ3 to avoid battery drain caused by current restarts of android service.
