Re: Sailfish OS on Sony Xperia Tama devices (XZ2, XZ2c, XZ3)
Looks like we are having a success story with FP on XZ3. rpm had a wrong path in one of the service files, will fix that with the next update. stay tuned
|
Re: Sailfish OS on Sony Xperia Tama devices (XZ2, XZ2c, XZ3)
The new version of FP for XZ3 is released. XZ2/XZ2c users don't have to do anything at this stage. XZ3 users would have to install fingerprint support as described in https://github.com/sailfishos-sony-t...rprint-support
Note that XZ3 requires droid-fake-crypt service which is packaged now in the default repo as well. |
Re: Sailfish OS on Sony Xperia Tama devices (XZ2, XZ2c, XZ3)
@rinigus, super, now it works perfectly after update and installation of droid-fake-crypt and an extra reboot.
Now I only need to stop touching the camera lens instead of the fingerprint reader. The position of the reader is basically where the xperia logo is on the XA2 (way down). Cheers, ljo |
Re: Sailfish OS on Sony Xperia Tama devices (XZ2, XZ2c, XZ3)
Curious - I read the info about camera issues in post 2, but wondering if any improvements in recent updates... Thanks

hi, can you tell me again how to disable fingerprint sensor please? cannot find the thread in jolla forum anymore...

To remove fingerprints, use sailfish-fpd-community-test app. Fully disabling would require reverting https://github.com/sailfishos-sony-t...ee35472a3459b4 , probably adding to disabled_services would be sufficient. |

Can't find the XZ2C below 200€ for some reason. Why the appeal?

Flashed today and working great on XZ2c... Thanks
I also pulled Aliendalvik files off my XA2, and alao working well. With a camera improvement, I'd have about the best phone setup I could ask for... |
Re: Sailfish OS on Sony Xperia Tama devices (XZ2, XZ2c, XZ3)
With OBS shutdown (assuming it happens), we will have to see how whole infrastructure will be setup for ports. Currently we are, pretty much, in unknown situation. Hopefully, we will figure something out.

Re: Sailfish OS on Sony Xperia Tama devices (XZ2, XZ2c, XZ3)
In case anyone else is wondering, manual update to 3.4 works fine... (I factory-reset first, just to have a clean test...) @rinigus - one issue is that when I try to install fingerprint support, it compalins of missing dependency, (fpd-slave). fpd package, and devicelock-fpd install fine, but sensor won't sense finger when trying to add a print... Any ideas?

Re: Sailfish OS on Sony Xperia Tama devices (XZ2, XZ2c, XZ3)
@levone1, you updated to 3.4.x before I even had a chance to look into it. So, breakage is expected. Also, I expect that the issues with the port are reported only if the updates/flashes are done using released versions.
As usual with the ports, I am going to wait till the target for new SFOS release will be available at OBS. Only after that it makes sense to work on the update. Before that, I better focus on other projects. |

Re: Sailfish OS on Sony Xperia Tama devices (XZ2, XZ2c, XZ3)
Thank you to all the smart brains behind this port. I just flashed an XZ2C that I used for a month to be sure it is working properly. The flashing ended with no failure and the system booted after unplugging the USB cable first off course.
Unfortunately for me an SMS came in as soon as the phone was booted into the newly flashed sailfish. I hope my speakers are not too badly damaged as it was a loud and cracking sound. They sound OK now with normal volume. For some reason the phone had to be rebooted twice to log in to the Jolla store. I complained about a bad network connection but WIFI and Mobile internet were both working in the browser. The browser crashed but that is usual with this old version. Looking forward to the 3.4 port. One can restore a backup from the 3.4 SailfishOS which is a big win as I could restore my Messages and some settings from an X Compact. I hope someone will make a presage version of the French and English and Dutch keyboards because I had a read and am still not sure what to do or where to find the needed pieces to create such a keyboard with prediction. It certainly needs another good read. The Jolla store is missing plenty of apps for some reason... Can't find the Noson app for example. The list of apps or new apps is very small as opposed to the huge list in the X Compact. Is that the price (free) to pay for a port instead of a Licensed (paid) phone? I had a look in my Jolla account and saw that I had all the official phones and a few more ported ones since the beginning of Jolla. The Lighthouse app shows 0% CPU and a temperature of 29'000C. Oh and by the way, where is the donate link for this port? ;-) |
Re: Sailfish OS on Sony Xperia Tama devices (XZ2, XZ2c, XZ3)
Re speakers: yeah, it is not pleasant. I have had it once in a while (volume increased for some unknown reason, maybe accidental vol + pushing?) but have not yet seen any degradation on XZ2. So, should be OK
Re reboots: no comment, can't tell why Re presage: English is there and available. French & Dutch - needs someone to make them Re limited apps: strange, I have noson available. try to logout and login back. if it will not help, file an issue at the official forum Re Lighthouse: I have 0%, but 27C. Could be Lighthouse bug as it works correctly in collectd/systemdatascope |

Re: Sailfish OS on Sony Xperia Tama devices (XZ2, XZ2c, XZ3)
For ports, we have to request official access to the store. Looks like it was not requested for this model, as I have to ask to check "ssu s" response from the owners. As you were the first users with that model, it was not registered.
Confusingly, it lets you access crippled store for some reason :( |

On another subject I have to say that I really regret the camera on the Android system as the focus in Sailfish is not working. Even the licensed versions don't work properly. I can tell I had all the official Jolla phones and stopped at the XA2 Plus because I don't want a tablet in my pocket. Do you guys go through the day because my phone battery drains at light speed which was not the case in Android. I sync mails and calendar manually. Could it have to do with my 4000 photos on an SDcard? |
Re: Sailfish OS on Sony Xperia Tama devices (XZ2, XZ2c, XZ3)
Re battery: maybe it is indexing them? I can usually go 2 days (or just below it) without charging, mail sync once in 5-15 min (depending on account).
Re camera: there is hope to improve it when we switch to AOSP10. Before that, it is as bad as AOSP9 is. Perfectly reproduced. Re Jolla Store: device type is not registered yet. |

Indexing it will be. There is no reason you could have more than a day and my phone wouldn't. Re camera: there is hope to improve it when we switch to AOSP10. Before that, it is as bad as AOSP9 is. Perfectly reproduced. On the positive note it can only get better ;-) |
Re: Sailfish OS on Sony Xperia Tama devices (XZ2, XZ2c, XZ3)
Is there still a way to check which version of Android was installed on a flashed Sailfish device? I have a terrible doubt... :-(

Re: Sailfish OS on Sony Xperia Tama devices (XZ2, XZ2c, XZ3)
Access to the store was added by pketo for XZ2c single sim, please test.

Re: Sailfish OS on Sony Xperia Tama devices (XZ2, XZ2c, XZ3)
first of all: thank you rinigus for the great port!
SFOS is running fine on my XZ3 since 3 days. Today I updated to 3.4.0.34 And: I just encountered the issue you addressed on Github last year: @rinigus rinigus commented Nov 3, 2019In Settings (Backup, Storage) and Camera app settings, local storage partitions are listed as if they are on extrenal sd card. Options like mounting and formatting are proposed in Settings/Storage.These partitions / disks should be blacklisted. Possibly, can be done via udev rules is there anything I can do about? BTW: the SDcard is mounted, but not shown in Sailfish file manager. |

Re: Sailfish OS on Sony Xperia Tama devices (XZ2, XZ2c, XZ3)
rinigus, thank you for the port!
I recently purchased XZ2 (H8216) with the sole purpose of installing SFOS, and it came pre-loaded with Android 10. Is there a path to installing SFOS with Android 10? All instructions I see here and on XDA refer to AOSP9 as seed (and Android 10 as a future possibility only if porting happens). Are there any safe instructions on how to downgrade back to Android 9 if that's the requirement? |

Please ensure that device is functioning for network and camera under both Android 10 & 9 before installing Sailfish OS. |
Re: Sailfish OS on Sony Xperia Tama devices (XZ2, XZ2c, XZ3)
Indeed, test the device first on Android. That way you would be sure that the bugs, if any, are coming from the port.
The last time I tried, I could flash SFOS directly from Android 10 install. This assuming that you also flash OEM AOSP9 too, as linked in README. However, I am not 100% sure it still works with the latest Android 10. I think Thaodan was reporting some issues with it. So, try to downgrade first. Even if it doesn't work, you can still get back to fastboot mode and reflash device. Just stay calm, connect USB and if it is in reboot-after-reboot mode, hold VolUp while rebooting (or try to hit the correct moment). Camera does suck, but the rest of the device is a joy to use. Hope is to get camera improved when AOSP10 base is supported. |
