Printing Poll
Have you printed with you n770/n800?
http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...ad.php?t=10057 http://geekpenguin.blogspot.com/2007...0-is-here.html I am sure I missed some options for the poll, someone wanted, please feel free to tell em what I should have put up there, you always do!! |
Re: Printing Poll
No, I haven't used a printer in about 5 years. Everything's electronic now.

Re: Printing Poll
My accurate answer: I wonder if I can print through my PC (via IT and the cable)cause I have no wireless at home. I wonder if anyone will tell me if I can do this. I wonder if they do tell me, will it be so complicated that I will think "someday I might try".
I never expected to print from my IT and I wonder if I will ever have a reason to do so. From this last wondering I think it may be useful some time.:) |
Re: Printing Poll
Abiword 2.2.7 prints text; I have problems with graphics.

Re: Printing Poll
I voted that I have not tried and I do not need to print from tablet... at least for now.
Even from my home desktop PC, I print rarely, maybe once every 2 months... Don't get me wrong: I'm excited about the possibility to print from tablet! I just have to find reason to print something in general... |
Re: Printing Poll
I know only a few people have been polled, but I am very surprised at the responses.
I have been wanting to print for two years, and finally its working, I figured people would be as excited as me. WOOO HOOO I AM PRINTING!!!! Oh well at least I can please myself, uh, perhaps that came out wrong? |

As it is, my home print server accepts print jobs via FTP, so if I had a simple command line FTP client for my N800, I could print text files right now. Given a PostScript printer to connect to the print server, I think I could do even more. |

Not exaclty sure there is a deb comming, do debs compress? if not it would be a 100MB deb. Not sure application manage could handle this? |
Re: Printing Poll
Haven't tried yet, but just due to a lack of time. Otherwise, my answer would be that more apps need to support it. Yes, it's big, but being able to print would be a big help!

Well, this is true, but now we have a reason to add print to the apps? Judging from the responses thus far, I am not thinking that many maemo developers are going to consider adding support anytime soon. Luckily, I can add the support to apps myself using XFCE, and perhaps later KDE, printing from konq would be nice. I finished compiling XFCE again now with cups support. Now I will be looking to add some apps that I can use. Currently the gqview is a great image viewer, with slidshows, and you can print your pictures from it. EDPF which I included does not seem to support printing, so a new pdf viewer with printing support is a must. A browser you can print from is a must. I have not had any luck compiling full mozilla/seamonkey/firefox but I wonder how it would run. Konqeror runs good on n800. |
Re: Printing Poll
Hmm...sounds interesting so I went ahead and installed it.
Of course, I don't own a printer just use one at work. |
Re: Printing Poll
Alright, who voted for me to just go away,
oh well cant make everyone happy, especially when your not trying!!! |
Re: Printing Poll
I would love the ability to print, but being a noob, I'm not too confident in going through the steps you have marked out. A deb would be nice.

Re: Printing Poll
Penguinbait, nice work! This may come slowly, but you've made a great improvement. I was waiting for the update to create room for it.

EDIT: I figured it out. I had not set a default printer. Now I am going to try to print PDFs from the command line. |
