Cannot install .deb file in browser
Hi,
I have a problem installing the .deb file in the opera browser. When I click on the .deb file, it opens up in text format instead of installing. I must have accidentally trigger some setting. How can I fix this? |
Re: Cannot install .deb file in browser
Since updating to the latest firmware, I'm having the same problem (specifically with installing the yellow notes applet).
I even tried downloading the file, saving it in the documents folder, and trying to open it ... but application manager just didn't like/recognize it. |
Re: Cannot install .deb file in browser
What happens when you open File Manager, find the .deb fie, and double click it?
|
Re: Cannot install .deb file in browser
same problem here...
but it seems not to be mozilla dependent (same behavior with both engines) Only way I've found is to download the deb using wget and open the file with app manager |

Re: Cannot install .deb file in browser
Right. It happens to me too, with the Microb browser. Same thing happens with the UK Media player, but not with Canoe. I have downloaded and installed them before with no problem. I suspect it is a Maemo site problem.

Re: Cannot install .deb file in browser
Did it start after updating to the latest n800 firmware? Or unrelated?

Re: Cannot install .deb file in browser
Hello... I had the same problem with gpodder, but not canoe or gfrotz. I ended up 'saving page as' and then renaming the file in xterm to a .deb (from .htm)
This morning I found they had fixed the repository containing python so was able to install that and then gpodder ok. This issue with the gpodder .deb seems to have just recently turned up - I've made no changes to firmware. |
Re: Cannot install .deb file in browser
I don't think it has anything to do with the latest firmware.

Re: Cannot install .deb file in browser
I have the same problem with 2007HE. This behavior started just after using red pill mode for installing Python 2.5, since previously I was able to install libffi4...deb from browser.

Re: Cannot install .deb file in browser
I also cannot get .deb packages on my OS 2006 770...
I work around would be nice ;) |
Re: Cannot install .deb file in browser
Installing GPE summary 0.7.0. doesn't work with the older (skype) ITOS either.

Re: Cannot install .deb file in browser
N770 with ITOS 2006:

Re: Cannot install .deb file in browser
Im having this same problem also....
|
Re: Cannot install .deb file in browser
If different OS are having same problem, I would guess it is an internal problem at the server. Has anyone tried installing an app from a different server such as Mulliner.org ? If that works, maybe it's a maemo problem.

Re: Cannot install .deb file in browser
Two of us in this thread installed Canoe, which you do by clicking on a deb file, and had no problem. So if any of you are thinking that the upgrade makes it impossible to install .deb files, you are wong. Canoe is a cool file manager, try for yourselves.
Or try installing Ruby from http://pierre.droids-corp.org/maemo/ It works fine. |

Oh, and, I haven't installed Python since 2 flashes ago, so this isn't being caused by Python being installed on my tablet. |
Re: Cannot install .deb file in browser
Earlier today I had the same problem...but also from my PC (Windows). So I think it is or was a maemo server problem.
They may have fixed it, I don't see the problem now. |
Re: Cannot install .deb file in browser
I still get the same problem.
|
Re: Cannot install .deb file in browser
Here same problem with gpe-summary-0.7.0. For installing, I had to download it with my PC and transfer it to the tablet via usb, then used appmanager for loading the saved filed. First time I encountered this problem, though, let's see oif it will happen again

Re: Cannot install .deb file in browser
It must be a maemo sever problem. Everything was fine with my last download on Friday as far as I can remember. I can install .deb files from non maemo sites, but thats about it.
For the record, my device is a 770 running 3.2006.49-2. |
Re: Cannot install .deb file in browser
I picked up on this thread after I was unable to install a paint program called faint from the maemo garage and got the text file instead of the expected application manger install cycle.
I have, however, recently installed several apps from the .deb files, including canoe (just now) and omwether applet (earlier this am). Given that I was able to install faint pre-new firmware, my guess was that it was a compatibility issue (faint is in alpha, so it didn't seem unusual). |
Re: Cannot install .deb file in browser
so where do we go from here??? I haven't seen any announcements on the maemo site, though I have seen a few bugs files concerning this issue.

Re: Cannot install .deb file in browser
I stand corrected, there is a post on maemo entitled application catalog crisis.

Re: Cannot install .deb file in browser
It seams fixed for me :)
