It shouldn't be. Check the dhcp settings on the router. I'm guessing 2wire?

You can do a reverse SSH tunnel. You can try the instructions here, or others HOW-TO available on the internet.

That's still not going to work if both devices have the same ip address.

I may have time to continue investigating tonight. (Been busy.)

Thanks,

Re: Using SSH/VNC with one IP...?

Ok, I finally had a chance to run ifconfig:
Code:

lo        Link encap:Local Loopback
          inet addr:127.0.0.1  Mask:255.0.0.0
          UP LOOPBACK RUNNING  MTU:16436  Metric:1
          RX packets:1305 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
          TX packets:1305 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
          collisions:0 txqueuelen:0
          RX bytes:215036 (209.9 KiB)  TX bytes:215036 (209.9 KiB)

wlan0    Link encap:Ethernet  HWaddr 00:19:4F:D5:0D:2A
          inet addr:192.168.1.72  Bcast:192.168.1.255  Mask:255.255.255.0
UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST  MTU:1500  Metric:1
          RX packets:219517 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
          TX packets:78287 errors:17 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
          collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000
          RX bytes:39136777 (37.3 MiB)  TX bytes:11147231 (10.6 MiB)

Which domain/address is my IT's IP? (The wlan inet value is what WifiInfo tells me it is, but that's the same as my laptop's IP.)

Re: Using SSH/VNC with one IP...?

Code:

inet addr:192.168.1.72
Your IT is 192.168.1.72. What's the IP on your laptop (ipconfig in a "DOS" window) - maybe WiFi info is wrong. Are you using DHCP, have you tried to lock a DHCP IP to a particular device - usually this is done by entering the MAC, has the MAC been etered correctly? Do you have the latest router firmware?

Maybe a static IP for the tablet would be the easiest solution!

As I said, my laptop has the same IP as is stated in my IT's ifconfig output... I will check into everything else.

It wasn't clear if you were making that statement based on what the router is telling you (which may or may not be accurate), or what you had determined from the laptop itself.

Ah, I see... I will verify that.
