Re: Remote Desktop-it works!

I would recommend that if you want to use remote desktop from outside your home network, you set up some kind of VPN to prevent hackers from getting in.
Also, there is an excellent virtual keyboard you can install on your PC so that your Remote desktop session is fully functional. Here is the virtual keyboard: http://www.lakefolks.org/cnt/

Also, to right-click in the remote desktop session, you just press the center button of navigation pad.

Re: Remote Desktop-it works!

I haven't had the need to try audio from PC to N800 but if you have any local files on your PC, you might be able to run some kind of supported streaming audio server on your PC and play it on your N800. I sometimes transfer files (such as PDF) from PC to N800. I just have the Filezilla FTP server running on the PC and shared a folder where I want to transfer the files from. Then, on the N800 browser, you just type ftp://192.168.1.150 or whatever your PC's IP address is.

Yep, rdesktop works a charm... I only wish I could send a wol command from my N800.

Google and Maemo.org come up with nothing. there is the etherwake package supposed to be somewhere, but I canīt find it...

Does anyone where I can get it? Or anything similar?

Thanks

Remote access: forward port 3389

I agree, Rdesktop works really, really well, especially at home inside my firewall. I can connect to my home network remotely using my Sprint Treo 700p as my internet connection as well (or WiFi at Starbucks, etc). The speed isn't as impressive as when using within the home network but its still amazing to me this works at all :)

In order to hit your PC remotly behind a router/firewall you have to forward port 3389 to the IP address of the machine you want to connect to. On my Linksys router you do that in the Applications section and then enter 3389 (RDP port) in both from and to, and select TCP. Then when connecting remotly you have to enter your external IP address (assigned my your internet provider). If your service uses dynamic IP, then its better to use something like DYNDNS which gives you an address (i.e. yourname.dyndns.org) that you use instead of the ip address, and it keeps track of your current IP address (Linksys routers have a setting to automatically update DynDNS everytime your provider changes your IP address).

One question I have is where can I find a listing of what the N800 hardkeys do in Rdesktop?

Thanks,

JT

Re: Remote Desktop-it works!

I've used VNC on my Macbook Pro at home and the VNC viewer on my N800 at work to get back into my home system easily enough.
I've also RDP'd into one of our sniffer laptops at a remote site and cranked up wireshark on the laptop's second 1Gbps NIC to troubleshoot network errors before, all via the N800. Worked like a charm.

I WOL using this web site. It sends the "magic packets" over UDP port 9.
