Did you post the message with the N800? :)

So, you've updated to OS2007? Did it go as expected?

Do you have any additional memory installed in it besides the supplied 128MB card? How was the performance?

Yeah, my last two were from the N800. I'm typing this one though since it's longer.

Update went fine. I was a little worried at first because it wouldn't connect (hold down home button and then power on) to do the update but apparently it's dependent on the battery state, i guess it really does have to be full. Aside from that it went fine, only took a few minutes.

All i have right now for memory is the 128 in the external slot. I have a 2 Gig ill be putting inside.

Performance isn't bad. Obviously it's no Core Duo like my laptop, but it works pretty good. Trying to browse two internet pages at once seems to slow it down though. I also had no problem getting onto my campus wifi when i was at my meeting, though that's just an open network with their own web based authentication server so it's simple enough. Also was able to connect to my school mail via IMAP with no problems. Got FM radio working, Gaim, Google Talk, installed a few other things. Still trying to figure out how to get more internet radio stations though.

I also had no problem connecting to my cell phone. I was able to browse the Bluetooth public folder on my phone from the N800 and view pictures, except my Sammy A900 likes to ask permission to send every single file, which gets annoying.

Thanks for the hands on experience posts! Is the USB cable only used for updates and connecting to your CPU?

yes. The usb cable is just for transfering data to sd cards or doing firmware updates

Instead of powering it on like that (pressing button combinations), it's way simpler to just plug in the charger cable. No buttons to press - if the USB cable is connected and the PC ready then plugging in the charger does the rest.

I've noticed that it takes forever to connect if I'm booted in Vista. It connects immediately when using XP. Haven't tried Linux yet because I have FreeBSD loaded on my third boot partition at the moment.

ALSO -- Suggestion: If you are using the windows flash updater program... you can download the appropriate *.bin file and flash from the file without needing to download it while flashing. This has two benefits:

1. You can reflash in about 2 minutes if you want to reset it again after messing around.
2. It is MUCH safer since there is less chance of a power glitch or internet download failure while flashing. (And you can check the MD5 checksum if you wish before flashing.)

NOTE: I'm looking at perhaps loading/flashing onto the internal 8Gb card I have and setting up dual boot. That way I can mess around as much as I want while leaving the "original" memory alone. PLUS as a side benefit it doesn't use a compressed file system like the "original". (And so it will be faster because the unit doesn't have to compress/decompress every file. I've read that it is a LOT faster when you do that. Like 40%-50%.)

Wow, i might have to look into that when i get a bigger SD card. The 2 gig one i have split open on me somehow so im going to have to get a new one. I had a 1 gig one too so i put it in there for now, along with the included 128 in the external one.
