Re: KDE v2 Beta testing
Its hard to keep track you have kde356-2-final3 ?
Well its beta testing :) OK lets do this one at a time 1) Started OK... some minor hiccups due to speed, but that is to be expected (can't wait to try KDE on OS2008 :)) Me too, we are going to be overclocking this thing, the first startup is the slowest because it caches everything for the first time. Also Konqueror is set to preload 3, perhaps I can drop that down to 1??? Here is my reasoning I wait 2 minutes after startup of KDE at worst and I have KDE ready to go. This can switch back to hildon by logging out of KDE, but its not meant to quickly switch back and forth, so I figure a two minutes (just ran 1min 39 seconds) 2) - Default theme wastes too much space in the border and title areas, but that is no biggie I depends on what you want to display on the panel, I assume thats what you mean? Or do you mean the Icons are to big? 3) - Certain programs (read: AbiWord) are not fully "in theme": the menus of AbiWord appear very hildonized-looking, and the icons and menus are waaay too large -- couldn't find a way of changing this This actually is a straight compile of Abiword 2.2.3 its old but printing works with pictures, which was my main goal. I did not alter anything, the menus dont work unless you are in full screen, did you notice this?? I want to get a good word processor, but this is all I have for now :( - Played around a bit, couldn't find any other major problems Did you print anything, if you open Konqueror CUPS is bookmarked to setup printer - Logged out OK - Couldn't start "Configure printing" from the Hildon menu This needs to be removed its a cups default, I will remove it. Thank you thank you thank you, I want to get feedback. do you think the wallpapers should be removed for faster startup?? I liked them |
Re: KDE v2 Beta testing
1) I really want to overclock my N800 beyond 400 MHz ... but we really do need OS2008 for this :(
2) I meant the title bar and borders of each individual applications... I like small title bars/borders on desktop PCs, let alone on the IT. 3) I noticed the menus not appearing when I wasn't in fullscreen, but didn't think much about it :) 4) No printers here (and no WiFi either), so I will try that tomorrow at work (if I can) 5) When I clicked on "print" on Konqueror (just for the sheer pleasure of clicking "print" on the N800 :D) I got an error saying that it couldn't connect to CUPS. Is this to be expected? I did not set up CUPS in any way. |

Re: KDE v2 Beta testing
cupsd had to be launched first... although I do not think I rebooted since I installed KDE.

make sure cups is starting after your mount of /usr/local I would put in your mount script to run ldconfig right after the mount, and have it start sooner than cups. Mount script for /usr/local something like this fsck -y /dev/mmcblk1p2 mount /dev/mmcblk1p2 /usr/local ldconfig Is there anything I could do to make it easier? |
Re: KDE v2 Beta testing
Aha... I'll package everything in a script. KDE is fun :D If only I could get to those buttons that appear below "screen level"!

Re: KDE v2 Beta testing
I was referring to the fact that some applications display non-resizable windows with buttons that appear "below" screen level; i.e., that cannot be reached in a screen 480px high.
EDIT: LOL, I just got the N810 "below screen level" reference :) |
