utilities/desktop/Desktop Pager You can drag the window in the pager, grab it and move it up to reach the buttons.. Not optimal, but workable!!:D |
Re: KDE v2 Beta testing
I'll try that later on. In the meantime, I launched KDE and did a soft power-off of my N800 while KDE was starting... and when I went to use it after about 20 mins, everything had started OK... except for Klauncher -- which meant that the system was useless. Weird problem. I'll check for reproducibility.
EDIT: Hahaha I can print! |
Re: KDE v2 Beta testing
Installed it the day before yesterday, haven't had a proper play of it yet but - initial thoughts:
1) Wow :) it's KDE on my lickle IT! 2) Goto 1) 3) Initial splashscreen showing KDE starting occasionally turns black [i.e. not visible] couple of touches on the screen flashes it occasionally. 4) It's pretty slow, here's hoping the N800 can be overclocked through software! 5) It's a pretty huge tar. I had to run tar several times (6 or 7 times) because tar itself kept crashing (read - X-term window disappears without any error shown.) This was the tar with long path support (and -j) from Fannoush's site afaik - have you got a better/more stable tar build? Opinions: 1) Can you get this up on a repository? Is it difficult to package up the contents in a deb? I'm not sure if the process of untarring the contents replaces system files or not but if not - this may well be an easy thing to do. 2) Can we have a base KDE install with no applications whatsoever? 3) If yes to both above - add applications as separate repository deb files. 4) Wallpapers are lovely - but bulky and the device runs slow enough as it is without them. Again - separate installable deb for themes/papers would be a nice feature. I can see now exactly why Nokia pushed Hildon onto the ITT. KDE - whilst fabulous - is a little kludgy to use on an ITT (no offence penguinbait.) I love the option of another Windowmanager and it's definitely staying on my device :) CUPS menu entry under hildon doesn't work (you've acknowledged that.) Will update more when I use it more! |
Re: KDE v2 Beta testing
Just loaded it again and started playing with screensavers, specifically Phosphor (one of my faves.)
Got a /bin/sh xscreensaver-text: can not locate program. Sure enough - it references Perl..from a /scratchbox/ directory! I installed Perl, edited the paths and tried again... "Can't locate diagnostics.pm in .... " Gah..damn it :) What I tend to do is have Phosphor scroll text from syslog, or even irc/pigin in realtime :) |
Re: KDE v2 Beta testing
Hmmm... smplayer crashed and burnt, my N800 switched off and now I logged on to KDE but the desktop is not showing :S

Re: KDE v2 Beta testing
Hmmm: Konqueror said it could not start the cookie service... any clues?
EDIT: Leaving KDE running idly on my N800 always leads to a reboot of the system after a few (say, 30) minutes (I believe I have no virtual memory enabled). |
