Buy N800 now or Wait for N810?
I am new guy here. I just found the information about N800 one month ago. It is amazing and I so want to get it. I also found some information (maybe rumor) that the next gen Internet tablet is coming and I like the slide-out keyboard. But no one knows when will be the release. The price for N800 on ebay is about $250 + shipping fee.
So I just want to ask for advice about purchasing N800 now or waiting for next gen? Thax |
Re: Buy N800 now or Wait for N810?
wait. The confidentiality agreement on the FCC site (which covers pics and whatnot) only expires in a few weeks. Who knows, you may like the new one better.

Re: Buy N800 now or Wait for N810?
If you have some extra money wait for the N810, it is coming soon. And yes it does have a slider keyboard (i know someone who said he saw it live).

Re: Buy N800 now or Wait for N810?
I've got my N800 in my shirt pocket as I type. As long as the keyboard doesn't cause the device to take up more space, I'm for it.

Re: Buy N800 now or Wait for N810?
No matter what you decide to buy..... I can promise you that you will end up buying the n810. Believe me even if you buy the n800 now you will pretty soon buy the n810 . ThE tablets are really addictive!!!
so bEtter be ready to keep aside 500$ every year!!!! |
Re: Buy N800 now or Wait for N810?
if you are not into having the latest and greatest, I'd say go for the 800. I have the 770 and love it. I can only imagine what the 800 would be like, let alone the 810. But it's like DSL, if you start with a low speed and are content, stay there. But as soon as you get a taste of a little more speed, you are gonna wan that speed all the time. Or maybe it's like drugs

Oh, my wallet is crying as I type. I'm not really one who has to have the latest and greatest, but I'm really a gadget addict. I still haven't given into Apple, though. ha

Re: Buy N800 now or Wait for N810?
sachin007 is right. I bought a 770 when they first launched and while I could see the potential I just found it far too slow to use properly. Compared to that the N800 is a breath of fresh air.
I can't wait to get my hands on a N810 (Prays to the Nokia gods for a Keyboard) |
Re: Buy N800 now or Wait for N810?
Now that the pictures are out the N810 is, for me, a step down from the N800. If I could have got just an N800+GPS then it would've been an improvement, but to get it I would have to suffer the stupid removal of the dpad from a useful position. So, to wait for the N810 or not depends on if that would be a better device for you than the N800 - it's not a straight forward "latest and greatest".

Re: Buy N800 now or Wait for N810?
I'm glad the N800 is on the way, but the 810 looks really nice. Love the keyboard. But, $240 was in the price range and $500 is not.
This is great! I get to lust after upgrading to a newer model from a previous internet tablet I haven't gotten yet. :) |
Re: Buy N800 now or Wait for N810?
ITS ONLY $500
Now that's not bad at all good move nokia |
Re: Buy N800 now or Wait for N810?
If you look at their tech specs, the N800 and N810 are virtually identical.
The only major advantage of the N810 is the built-in physical keyboard and the built-in GPS, but the actual computing part is the same as the N800: same processor, same RAM, same OS version (OS2008 will be built into the N810, and be available as a free download for N800 users when the N810 launches), same battery life. As far as I can tell, unless you want the keyboard or the built-in GPS, there's not really any point in getting an N810 instead of an N800. It seems Nokia never really intended the N810 as a next gen replacement for the N800, but more as a same gen alternative model. There's a really good comparison of the tablet hardware on the Forum Nokia site: http://www.forum.nokia.com/main/plat...emo/index.html Going by the specs, the N800 was clearly a huge step up from the 770, but the N810 is the same as the N800. |
Re: Buy N800 now or Wait for N810?
Once you get the new device, you won't miss the front-dpad. For browsing, just press space to go to next page. You can easily slide the kb just a bit to access the space key. I think it's pretty darn useful.
Also, for for example gaming purposes, the dpad is better. Why? Because you can press the mid button down, use it as rocker and then put your right thumb on the right side keys and assign two of those as A/B buttons. So, I think that the dpad is just in the correct place. And works just as well as the previous one. |
Re: Buy N800 now or Wait for N810?
I'm feeling better about my N800 purchase now that I've read this forum all day and seen the news unfold before my eyes. (great posts) Let's see..when I get it I'll update to OS2007 and then when the N810 comes out to OS2008. I love this!
FedEx Shipping tracking reads the estimated arrival of my N800 is Monday. Maybe I should have saved my $7 and gone for the free Buy.com shipping.:) |

Re: Buy N800 now or Wait for N810?
I've been browsing this forums for months (but only registered today) been wanting to buy my first internet tablet N800 of course. I finally decided yesterday to buy it at Buy.com for $240 and then the evil twin brother N810 appeared. Aaaahhh I was so confused, so I changed my mind didnt order the N800. So wanting your advise people, do I have to buy the N810 instead? Thanks...

Re: Buy N800 now or Wait for N810?
My advice: evaluate both, buy what fits your wants and needs best.

Re: Buy N800 now or Wait for N810?
With the n800 being so cheap, I'd have a hard time recommending an n810 to anyone but travellers and geocachers. (people who'd mate the n800 to a GPS solution anyway)
or maybe a blog/flickr addict who'd get a ton of mileage out of the USB OTG support. |
Re: Buy N800 now or Wait for N810?
thanks guys for your opinions/feedbacks. the N800 price and 2x8G storage is too tempting. but then N810s GPS capability and built in keyboard rocks. but who needs GPS anyway? i might just get N800 and buy a BT keyboard then update to OS 2008. case solved...

"My advice: buy both, evaluate what fits your wants and needs best." <evil grin> Yes master... I shall obey. (Sadly I probably will anyway.) Personally I am waiting for a 16Gb or even 32Gb SDHC cards that are less than about $100.00 ANOTHER BUYING POINT: You can now get a 16Gb card for SDHC but you can barely get a 4Gb for mini or micro. (Sure the 16Gb SDHC are $200.00 at the moment.) Since the N810 uses mini cards... be prepared to wait twice as long for cheap memory. |

N810 costs US$479 and mini SD costs more than SDHC memory. If you do not use GPS you should buy N800 for matter of half price. Use it for a year then buy next generation after N810 . That what I did. |
Re: Buy N800 now or Wait for N810?
Newly registered here too...
I'm in the same buying quandary. I would probably mate GPS to an N800 but OTOH, built-in with an included car mount is sweet. I don't see using the KB that much. My past experience with a Zaurus SL5500 was that I tended to ssh into it when I needed to type. Once I have whichever unit, I plan to sell my Treo 700p and replace it with a Razr. Jeff |
Re: Buy N800 now or Wait for N810?
Personally, I really want the GPS and the keyboard, but would prefer the full SD(HC) slots, but regardless of the slots think that I'd prefer the 810 for the GPS and keyboard as I said. The only issue is that I'm not sure that I can justify paying double the price just for GPS and a keyboard, so I don't know.

Re: Buy N800 now or Wait for N810?
I think with ITOS2008, even N800 might keep selling (hopefully Nokia will sell them both like Apple did with iPhone and iPod touch, only here you have GPS/keyboard vs. lower cost)
|
Re: Buy N800 now or Wait for N810?
If I've figured right, a BT keyboard and GPS receiver would run about $150 bringing the actual price of an N800 to ~ $380.00 -- so, for another C note I could avoid having to have four devices to carry and charge!
I think I'm talking myself into waiting :) |
Re: Buy N800 now or Wait for N810?
Is the GPS on the n810 going to be crappy like the one on the n800?
I have a mio C220, and it is cheap and great. $140. I just bought a n800 for $240 + $10 off.. @ buy.com... I rather have that + my mio c220 for $370 then n810 that cost $500 |
Re: Buy N800 now or Wait for N810?
There's no GPS in the N800, so I don't know how it could possibly be crappy... ;)

Re: Buy N800 now or Wait for N810?
i have been looking at the 800 since it came out. I could not talk myself into it back then, but lately have found the need (want) for one. When the price dropped I waited to see what features came on the new model. I will use the gps but not that much, the keyboard would be nice but not enough to justify the price difference. That and the sdhc full sixe support made me pick the 800. I cant wait for it to arrive. Now time to read up on updating the device.
IDK |
Re: Buy N800 now or Wait for N810?
Newbie question: Is the GPS on the N810 an independent function that does not require wifi/bt for it to work?
