Does Penguinbait deserve a FREE N810 from the "Maemo device program" POLL
 

I have never asked to be part of the Maemo device program because I didnt think I deserved it.

They are releasing 500 devices on this program, and I think that I deserve to be part of the 500. I hardly get to use my device because I am always running images for further development. But I want your opinion, do you think I deserve to recieve one, have I contributed enough to be worthy?

personally I reckon they should give them to the first 500 registered members of this board, seeing as we've been their focus groups/usability feedbackers/(in some cases) programmers/general labrats for two years.

although I'm not going to buy one to add to my 770 and 800, that doesn't mean i wouldn't *like* one ;)

The very idea of bringing CUPS to the devices is enough to qualify. Implementing this and other things should sure put you on the list.

ITT has been a great tool. It would be great to get together and meet a bunch of ITT folks. There is no doubt this forum has moved this platform forward, as did all us beta testers :D

Peng, in my opinion you clearly do deserve it. But just to clarify, they're not giving away 500 TABLETS, they're giving away 500 COUPONS of 100 $/E OFF the tablets when they come out in November. At least that's the way I've always read it. Correct me if I'm wrong...

The only thing that would make you deserve one MORE than now would be if you ported KDE 4 b3 to the tablet.....

No, you are correct, and perhaps I mis-stated in my title :eek: A coupon 99lbs or whatever in US dollars that translates to is I believe what I read.

$150 = much better that $480

But again yes you are correct.

I did sign up, but I thought I would pose the question. I have heard people say that what I have done is a waste of time. Does not releasing things properly through the garage does this make me less worthy? I looked into the garage but 200 and 300MB packages are not doable.

I just thought I would see how the community felt. Sorry Zerojay if my poll annoys you in some way. But thanks for your two cents!

When I hear people like Gnuite wondering if they will get one, it makes me wonder if I deserve one.

There are many people here that deserve one, but at the top of my list would be Fanoush. His boot loaders and utilities have made the biggest difference for me and my n800. I will literally hold off on upgrading to os2008 or an n810 until he is able to take a look at things and *hopefully* update his contributions.

Erm, is this poll some kind of personal PPRR or some form of extrovertism? :) And on the other hand, at this point after having invested so much time hacking the tablets you should know the maemo team psyche a bit better.

What criteria should we follow to give away 500 discount codes and leave out the guy that has shown proof of concept of KDE, XFCE and CUPS in the tablet. Or the author of the most popular and downloaded third party application (Maemo Mapper). Or the person delivering on time unofficial kernel images that squeeze the capabilities of the tablets beyond Nokia's EULA?

Only the work on the KDE is enough to buy you a project leader post in Nokia, ..........., of course you deserve one. And if you actually take up the post, you would make great contribution to the coming WiMax one:p

Regardless of the offer, Penguinbait is a major factor in keeping the N800 series popular and he deserves a completely free 810.

I think you deserve a free (or whatever coupon is in sight) N810 for your work, as Gnuite, Fanoush, Konttori (and for sure someone other that I am forgetting) deserve another.

I would like to thank everyone who voted in this poll ( including aflegg ;) ). It was quite an eye opener to see that much support. The KDE threads are often left empty unless someone is having a problem.

I also would like to thank ITT. This forum has been the catalyst to being able to deploy my hacking adventures world wide. KDE install instructions have been translated into many languages. I often find references to penguinbait in languages I can not read. Makes me wonder what they are really saying about me :D

I did actually recieve a email saying I was accepted into the developer program.


KDE 3.5.8 in Chinook is on the way, for those who care ;)

I missed the chance to vote, and while I don't agree with him on some aesthetic details, I do think he does a ton of work to help the success of the platform. I think he not only deserves the coupon, but probably to be on the list of people who gets pre-release devices.

I was voting on the "free" aspect, before realising you'd misread the device programme. Of course you deserved a discount...

And, being British, it's generally guaranteed to get our backs up when someone asks if they're entitled to special treatment; rather than letting others recognise it for themselves. (Very different to the US temperament, AFAICT)

I will state it again, I was really asking because I wanted your opinion. (And I really was shocked by the outcome) Did I think I deserved it? Well I use KDE and printing all the time, not sure if anyone else does? Any opinion I might have would be biased, and I think since I am not following install standards, perhaps I was not worthy to recieve the discount, I never got one before, and never thought of even asking for one before.

Yes, I think Peng deserves one. He has made my 770 much more usable by removing the Hildon limitation.

Count me in too as one who believe PenguinBait deserves one. He has managed to inspire me to actually tinker with Linux. If it weren't for that fact I'd be too frustrated with the limitations of the N800 to even consider purchasing the N810 or future models. I'm sure I'm not alone either.

For that, give him ten, no twenty! He'll convert more people to the NIT than the money lost during the give away. :)

How many Linux fanboys have searched the web and saw that KDE, XFCE, etc actually working on the N770/N800? How many of those people then said "I'm going to buy one of those things"? I'm sure there have been some numbers. You listening Nokia!?!

Hi all, I have not bought an 810 yet, & hope that this is a good place to say yes I believe that PB deserves more than a free 810 from Maemo, & ask the question (as I have never seen the 810 EULA), where do it's limits lie? Obviously it is OK to port other FOSS to the Maemo Linux. There is no room for litigation as happened in the past with the PSP?
