i found such a nice green install arrow when i searched on maemo.org for nicotine, downloaded the catalogue and then got an error message, missing files. is the installation file corrupted? i thought that the green arrow actually means newbie friendly :-( suggestions would be appreciated, thanks. phil |
Re: trouble installing nicotine
Hi.
Please first install the base repository: http://pymaemo.garage.maemo.org/installation.html These problems will end with the next OS version. Cheers. |

I wonder how much will work on Day One of the OS2008 release? Unless there's that many developers who downloaded the Chinook SDK, should we not expect much on the first day? :) |
Re: trouble installing nicotine
Thanks, I installed it.
Next problem :D When I start the nicotine application and click on file the fields "connect" and "disconnect" are not clickable, they are grey. Any idea why ? This seems strange to me. Phil |
Re: trouble installing nicotine
First, you have write your user and password and choose "Incomplete file directory" and "Download directory". Then you can connect to server.

Write Nicotine, and hit enter. And then copy the error here, please. I tested it in OS2008 beta and it worked, and in the emulator it works too. |
Re: trouble installing nicotine

Re: trouble installing nicotine
tommie, no problem. With 'hit enter' I wanted to say hit the enter/return key in the virtual keyboard, so the command is executed.
Thanks, Lupin3d. It can be a problem with python in general, since Nicotine doesn't use the cairo module therefore it doesn't import that module. Could you write the complete error? |

Ok, thanks. It seems the gtk module is compiled with cairo support, so when importing the gtk module it needs the cairo module. But the python2.5-cairo module isn't dependent of python2.5-gtk2 module. Nicotine only have python2.5-gtk2 module as dependence, so it doesn't run. If you install python2.5-runtime from the application manager, this error possibly won't happen, because python2.5-runtime will install python2.5-cairo. http://maemo.org/downloads/product/OS2008/pymaemo/ I will update nicotine in order this problem doesn't happen. |
