Re: Googletalk
The N800 inbuilt client already supports the Googletalk protocol. So no need to install anything more.

yea when you set up an account in the IM software it asks googletalk or jabber. I have never used either so i did jabber to try it out.

Re: Googletalk
There's an applet at the home display which you can configure to permanently show a selection of shortnumber contacts. Those I have displayed are my gmail/gtalk contacts. To import contacts automatically from your gmail account you'll have to set them as 'Show in quick contacts always' in contacts (from your browser logged in at gmail). Then, if you've set up your google account in the IM on the N800, they'll be automatically imported into contacts on the N800. The applet will let you monitor who's online (and they will see you, if that little ball in the status bar is green).

Re: Googletalk
The GoogleTalk integration with the N800 is very good, and I use it often. If only the PC app supported video...

The easiest way to find out which contacts will appear in your N800's GoogleTalk list is to access your Gmail, tap on Contacts in the left sidebar and select Most Contacted. Contacts in this list will also appear in your N800. If you still have not able to get your GoogleTalk account set up, you can either tap on the Presence status icon in the status bar and select Account Settings, or you can access the Account Settings applet from Settings -> Control Panel -> Accounts. From this applet, just add a new Account and you will be able to add a GoogleTalk account by providing your login name and password. Hope this helps. |
Re: Googletalk
Looks like I may stand corrected on this one.
I added a good 50 contacts to the Always Show list late last night. Then I go tonline with my N800 and the contacts did not sync. I deleted the GoogleTalk account in Account Settings (knowing fully well that it would not delete my existing GoogleTalk contacts) and added the account again. This time, a few more contacts showed up (actually, 2), but I have no idea what criteria the built-in Contacts app uses to import the contacts (it certainly does not look like it synced, since all the info related to Phone and Email details were not reflected in Contacts as it was set up in Gmail Contacts) I will be doing more testing tonight to try to unravel this perplexing behaviour. |
Re: Googletalk
When I first set up my N800 I only had 2 contacts showing in Chat, only one of them got imported - the one set up as 'Always Show'. The second one never got imported. I then set it to Always Show and it was immediately imported. Later I had to go through the same procedure for other contacts: Everything I set to Always Show gets imported immediately. I don't think I have had any other contact imported automatically, although I think I've seen reports from others about it.

Re: Googletalk
Odd. Time to try again!
Update: Nope, the new contacts weren't added. *grrr* |
Re: Googletalk
Is anyone expire problems with GoogleTalk sound? I tried to make calls between n800 , n810 and PC and neither one of them has sound. Between n800 and n810 camera works perfect but I wasn't able to hear my voice. Any suggestions how to fix that?

Re: Googletalk
if ogg support is installed on both ITs, it's a (well) know bug : search for "google talk ogg"
|
Re: Googletalk
Thanks, fredoll I will look for that but it is still weird that I'm not able to talk even when I make calls to the PC.

Re: Googletalk
you have the mic/sound muted by chance? Or perhaps a firewall getting in the way? (assuming your connecting all this on a private home network)
