Anybody get the FM Radio working?

Re: Applications working on OS 2008

Got Kagu and A2DP working, which also means mplayer. mplayer gui doesn't work, but all you need is mplayer itself working for A2DP. The problem getting bluez and mplayer installed was the new version of dbus. It's changed from /usr/lib/libdbus-1.so.2 to /usr/lib/libdbus-1.so.3. All I did was symlink .3 to .2 and a forced install of the two packages. Then I edited the install.sh script milhouse did to skip installation of those packages. Works like a charm.

Quick and dirty instructions:
Install Kagu through normal means. I just installed it by the .deb directly. It complained about something(I think dbus not being configured properly), but still showed up on my menu.
Follow the instructions the here. gainroot is already installed, it looks like. Go until you're supposed to becomeroot and do ./install.sh again. It won't work. You'll need to do the following:
Code:

ln -s /usr/lib/libdbus-1.so.3 /usr/lib/libdbus-1.so.2
dpkg -i --force-all sbc-svn_20070608-1_armel
dpkg -i --force-all plugz-svn_20070608-1_armel.deb
dpkg -i --force-all mplayer_1.0rc1-maemo.18.n800_armel.deb

Then you'll need to change install.sh and just delete a pile of lines. Basically from line 12 to 21, delete or comment out. Run it like that as root, and it'll do its last configuration and tell you to reboot. After that, Kagu works with A2DP again.

Re: Applications working on OS 2008

Correction: mplayer gui seems to work, but A2DP headset buttons don't for me. I'm looking into it.

Has anyone started a wiki page on this yet? (anyone notice the irony in that statement?)

Please stop hijacking this thread with requests for jabber servers, fxs... Start a new one pls.

edit:

I started a wiki-

Pidgin works ok, even in Systray.
Bad news. MPlayer doesn't and it's there's some bug during compilation.

VNC Server works (x11vnc_0.8-3_armel.deb)
http://mike.saunby.googlepages.com/x11vncfornokia7702

But no luck with VNC Viewer on OS2008. There are dependencies on old libraries which I fetched with apt-get and then did manage to install VNC Viewer, but it fails to launch.

Re: Applications working on OS 2008

My splicer utility works if you have python installed. You could use it as an alternate way of launching videos in mplayer since it appears they still don't have 'open with' functionality :(

http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...t=9024&p=77152

Interesting to note the gtk dialogs (which i prefer) seem faster and fit screen better than gtk version in 2007.

If you need to edit the app list you will need editor like (leafpad?) installed and use splicer to open/edit the /usr/lib/splicer/splicer.apps file with that editor.

The home applets Simple-Launcher and OM Weather work apart from transparency. Not a functional issue, just a cosmetic one

Re: Applications working on OS 2008

Please, if you have time, etc..., add these with your information to the wiki.

Thanks!

Re: Applications working on OS 2008

omweather 0.19.1 would not install for me complaining about the following missing packages:
libdbus-1-2 (>=0.61)
osso-ic-lib

Did you mean it works with forced install or is there a version for OS2008?

EDIT: nevermind, I could install it fine after I manually installed those two packages from bora repository - for some reason application manager would list them but it would not install them automatically.

rcadden 2007-11-16 16:26

Re: Applications working on OS 2008

sweet, been waiting for those two apps!

Re: Applications working on OS 2008

I had the problem with it not automatically pulling in the bora dependencies with kagu. it downloaded python but didn't work until I installed python manually. hopefully these will be added to the chinook repos soon.

Re: Applications working on OS 2008

Also can't add to the wiki-

fourrivers version 1.1-1 works
https://garage.maemo.org/frs/?group_...release_id=775

xmame 0.58.1-6 works
https://garage.maemo.org/frs/?group_...release_id=324
but you have to get used to running games from command line.
...actually I am quite sure mame is noticeably faster and more playable on os2008 (especially with the bluetooth keyboard ftw)

...otherwise, tomiku installs but is missing libhildonwidgets.so.0
and IDEA installs and runs but is VERY buggy and troublesome.

I forgot to include Quiver, had somehow assumed that it was there already.

You are right, pc only. On the IT the visible tabs are 'article', 'discussion', 'view source' and 'history'. Those missing are 'edit', 'move' and 'watch'.

For clarification, I am using OS2008.

I heard WordPy works already:
http://yerga.net/files/maemo-wordpy_...ok-1_armel.deb

From Jaiku:

Re: Applications working on OS 2008

That Maemo WordPy version works but it isn't very tested. Moreover it have a preview option that is experimental and buggy ;)

New 0.5 version will be ported next week.

BTW, Lybniz works as a charm. And Mirage 0.9 was ported a time ago but it's not official yet: http://yerga.net/files/mirage_0.9beta-2_armel.deb

Cheers.

Re: Applications working on OS 2008

Apparently only users in one of the groups user, Administrators, Moderators, Super Moderators can edit the wiki.

Anyway, I just wanted to say that I tracked down the incompatibilities between version down to an incompatibility between the following libraries:
hildon-libs0 (from os2007, won't install on os2008) and
osso-af (new in os2008).

hildon-fm1, a library commonly needed for software originating in os2006 will also not install without hildon-libs0.

Apparently, hildon-libs0 will not be updated, so most os2007 applications will never install without a recompile. And we already know that many applications were never recompiled from os2006 to os2007. abiword, anyone?

There is also a conflict between libossomime0 (os2007) and libhildonmime0 (os2008) but it seems to concern less applications. libdbus-1-2 has also been updated to libdbus-1-3, maybe a symbolic link is all what is needed in that case.

Re: Applications working on OS 2008

I've started a chinook repository at:

Code:

deb http://elkins.org/packages chinook main
So far the repository contains:

binutils-2.18.deb - Gnu binutils
ctorrent-1.3.4.deb - ctorrent bittorrent client
gnu_tar-1.19.deb - Gnu tar
mc-4.6.1.deb - Midnight Commander
ncftp-3.2.1.deb - ncftp ftp client
bzip2-1.0.4.deb - Newest bzip2
frotz-2.4.3.deb - Infocom interpreter
joe-3.5-1.1.deb - Wordstar-like editor
mpg123-0.66.deb - console mp3 player
ntp-4.2.4p4.deb - ntpdate network time
mysql-5.0.45.deb - mysql 5.0 server

Joe has some problems I'm trying to sort out. Currently the rc files aren't making it into /etc for some reason.

edit: added mysql. It works in scratchbox, but it doesn't like the partition sizes in 2008. I think this may go away on a system that's cloned to SD. I don't plan to do that until 2008 final is released. If someone who's cloned could test?

I also have apache 2.0 working, but it's not yet packaged.

Re: Applications working on OS 2008

Apache 2.0 is now packaged in and in my repository. No modules as yet, but that's next as I want to run some php apps on my N800. Currently everything's packaged to live in /usr/local/apache2. That's not debian-standard, but it works for me.

Yep, thats the one I was going to add to the wiki if I had access.

Reggie 2007-11-18 04:21

Re: Applications working on OS 2008

You should have access. The wiki is tied to the forums, so if you are logged in, you can edit the wiki.

adammelancon 2007-11-18 04:27

Re: Applications working on OS 2008

Nope, unfortunatly it looks like it logs in, it tells me thanks for logging in, and then it brings me back to the wiki page where my only options are "article", "discussion", "view source", and "history".
And at the top of the page it still shows the username and password box.
I tried it in firefox as well as IE and still get the same results.

Re: Applications working on OS 2008

Hmm. Please log out to clear the cookies and make sure you use a 'www' on the url: http://www.internettablettalk.com/forums

Re: Applications working on OS 2008

Sorry, same results. I even tried typing in the URL by hand after clearing cache and cookies and restarting the browser.

I did notice a couple of people in this thread also have trouble editing the wiki. I wonder if it's the same problem I'm having.

Are you sure this is up? When I added this repo and refreshed app manager none of those apps shows up. No errors in AppManager either. Tried to browse to it on my Mac and got the infamous 404 error.
