Not sure how it works with dreamhost, but I have a domain with 1and1.co.uk. You should be able to set the name server records (I could) to point to the dreamhost server. If the dreamhost setup means that you're IP address is dedicated to your service, then that should be all you need to do. Otherwise dreamhost will have to set the host-header details on their side. But I expect the IP will be dedicated as I don't see how Jabber would work otherwise.

Sounds good to me. I'd say go ahead and do it.

I'm not sure where in 1and1's control panel I do that, or how, but I'll give it a shot...

from the dreamhost admin:
"Note, even if you host a domain with us, if you registered it elsewhere, you must go there to renew or modify registration info."

from my 1and1 account, I can do:
choose domains
select the domain (checkbox) and choose dns from the top
edit "Name Server Settings"
change the IP address to the dreamhost address
optionally change the mail record (MX) to the dreamhost server.

this may need corresponding config on dreamhost's side though

as a side note, www.joker.com are really good for if you just want a domain name and no hosting. $12 year, with complete DNS control.

Ok, dreamhost's name servers are ns1.dreamhost.com, ns2 and ns3. I just set that up in 1and1 and it's updating. Once that's complete I'll see what I need to do on dreamhost's side...

Cool. Alternatively, you could probably have kept with 1and1's name servers and just updated the entries, but either way will work.

I couldn't see how to do that alternate method. The other was straight-forward.

The Adding Jabber Users option says it's for fully hosted domains only. :/

I'm confused. I see that pixelseventy2 managed to add himself. Hang on...

Yep, just added myself (texrat@jablet.dreamhosters.com). As soon as it's active I'll test it...

EDIT: I can login to my jablet account on my N810. :) However, I tried to IM pixel and see an error "contact is unauthorized". Trying to find a fix for that... oh nevermind, it just means he hasn't accepted me as a contact. Hmmm. How do I initiate that from the tablet?
