Re: Maemo Mapper v2.0

I'm usually just using two zoom levels: One as a global overview (of highways) and one detailed view of the area I'm currently in. Is there any way in Meamo Mapper to automatically switch between these two zoom levels depending on the speed I'm traveling at ?

Would also be nice to have it not dim the screen when in full screen mode no matter what. Kinda like the old version.

gnuite: thank you for your continuing work on mmapper. as mentioned above it is definitely a program which should be at the top of the list of necessary additions to the tablet. i've used both navicore and mmapper and prefer mm. though the program can't reset itself and plot a new route if you veer off the highway, you can zoom out a ways and keep the planned route in view while you meander about off-route. like a paper map you can still see all the roads, but with the addition of a pointer showing where you are, so you can figure out for yourself how to get back to the planned route, usually without having to retrace your steps.

I also thought they were taking up more space, but you have to remember that most of the maps are able to zoom in more than before, meaning that the level 4 map in 2.X is actually a closer resolution than level 4 in 1.X. Therefore the increased resolution will take more space

By "same zoom levels for both," do you mean "equivalent zoom levels," i.e. after taking into account the change in zoom numbers (Zoom Level 4 is equivalent to the old Zoom Level 0)?

Which version of Maemo Mapper are you using (4GB)? Which version of Maemo Mapper were you using before (800MB)?

Yeah, they do seem to take up more space. I have a couple problems though... When I zoom with any map (street/satellite) into a zoom level of 0 or 1, the download doesn't work. It says something like 49 maps failed to download. What's going on with this?

Your map repository probably does not support zoom levels 0 or 1.

It's called the "Auto-Download Pre-Cache," and it downloads some of the surrounding areas in case you pan to those areas (to keep those areas from being black for long periods of time). You can reduce the Pre-Cache to the minimum value (in the "Misc. 2" tab of the Settings dialog) in order to download only what is required to draw the screen.

I'm not sure zoom levels 0-3 even exist as downloadable. I always thought they were magnifications of level 4 (= the old level 0)

They do exist for some map repositories in some locations. For example, I know that Google Maps supports zoom level 0 (called "-4" by them) for some limited areas of the world.

I'm also having a bit of trouble with this. My 3G/EDGE connection is extremely lousy (lots of packet losses etc.) and the 'processing maps' takes many minutes every time there are maps to be updated (or fail to update). Maybe the download area margin could be made configurable?

See the "Auto-Download Pre-Cache" setting in the "Misc. 2" tab of the Settings dialog.

EDIT: I'm on v2.0.3

It's the same as in v1.4. In the "Manage Repositories" dialog, each repository has an option called "Double Pixels". Is it not working for you?

Only if the track contains points from both before the zoom change and after the zoom change. That is, if you started creating the track with Maemo Mapper v2.0, then you upgraded to v2.0.1 (or vice versa), then you created more track points, then the distance will be miscalculated.

Otherwise, it's a bug. I'll check it out.
