I installed MaemoMapper for OS2008 without any problems. Also, I did install flite... it just showed up in my installable applications and installed fine. (Not sure if it is working... I didn't go out to test it with MM yet...)

Simple ... decode the polyline ... i've done it in a couple of hours.
Not sure if it's legal or not to use "share" that info.
My main problem will be that google :mad: will change the format
like maps.live.com have done (now i have to decode it again
to have route available for Romania)

I think I got it from http://repository.maemo.org/extras/ bora free

So, I do have this repository twice in my application manager: with chinook and bora distributions. I believe this did the trick...

Yes it works... but it sounded like the speed was faster than in OS2007? Maybe the 400MHz versus 330MHz makes a difference... :)

I am also seeing this lockup issue. MM will get a GPS fix, run for a while (5-30 secs) and the GPS seems to stop updating (MM still responds to some things like the close button). After this, sometimes I will see stray MM processes left around which I have to kill in order to establish connection to the GPS again (although sometimes even this does not work and it requires a reboot to get connection to the GPS again). Another data point that I have not seen mentioned is that after this happens NaviCore can no longer connect to the GPS either. Sometimes I can get the GPS back in NaviCore by going through the "Activate GPS" procedure but not always.

Glad to hear it's easy!

It definitely goes against their terms, as does downloading maps for offline viewing, and it's probably considered copyright infringement in certain areas.. I don't feel too bad downloading a little bit for personal offline use, though :)

How much data was downloaded from Googles' encoded polylines for Romania?

Well I guess my point was that Maemo-Mapper uses the routes from Google maps via that cgi script to generate routes, and was just curious if there is source available for that cgi script or anything similar that is opensource that anyone knows about.

I love the route feature it would just be great to be able to use it when im not connected to the Internet as hotspots in Australia really do suck...
and again, wireless Internet in Australia is hopeless unless you want to fork out alot of money to our great masters at Telstra the telco monopoly

Hmm ... doesn't work like that. You have to setup a proxy like Gnuite did (i did for both gmaps and maps.live.com - only the first still working ... cause MS changed the format it encodes the polyline), then you ask for a direction (have to make fake a browser call, fetch the polyline, - figure out the algorithm, get the gpx data ;) )

You cannot get a vectorial map, you will end-up requesting routes from your server every time you need one

PS: i really don't think abusing gmaps is a good ideea ... hope they will not change the format like VEMaps did ( aka M$ :mad: )
