Re: Maemo Mapper v2.0
Well, I just ran 2.0 on the interstate for 300 miles. The new features are quite cool, especially the map rotation. But, it's a big drop in stability versus 1.4 (certaintly understandable ;)). I had more than a dozen crashes over the whole trip (which is a bit of a pain at 80mph :D), now, since I was cruising down the interstate, I couldn't really say for sure but I think it may have failed on map downloads. I pre-cached along the route before I left this morning, but I may have gone out of the cached zoomed levels and I don't think it liked trying to fetch over the EDGE connection on my phone.

Re: Maemo Mapper v2.0
The zoomsteps below 0 also affects the usability of MM in the car. In my optinion you can't use MM while driving because of the concentration which is needed for the small maps (even on zoom step 0). too bad. the new release is a large step in the right direction. so, i hoped to sell my tomtom because of the new release. but this has to wait until the maps are larger...
another thing are the black areas while moving the maps. as mentioned, this is not just really annoying but it really slows you down while moving. you could move by far faster with the old method. so perhaps you can add an option to choose the old method or the new one for navigating. there is another question: perhaps this is because of the new moving method, but the new map database seems to be much slower than the pure maps system. so, why was this changed? a cool thing is, that you can choose indiviual icons for pois. but can you use a general replacement for poi icons if you didn't select an indiviual icon, so that we never have to see the ugly purple squares? ;) besides my moaning and groaning, excellent work :) |
