Also, For the bogus routes appearing on the maps, it happens in the NE and west of the NE states (PA, KY, WVU, etc.). Edit: I see others are beginning to report the problem and it doesn't seem to be isolated to a specific part of the world or country. |

Gnuite:
You are THE MAN ! Maemo Mapper is an amazing piece of work. You are to be commended. I upgraded from 1.4x to 2.0 then 2.0.1 last night. I had some snags, but I read every post in this thread, and tried some things I saw here and got it working perfectly. Excellent work on your part. If I may make one small suggestion. I had to do a fresh install, and I followed a xterm command you posted in this thread earlier. That seemed to do the trick (that and renaming / moving my old maps). My suggestion is this: I became accustomed to MM automatically starting my N800 Bluetooth when I started MM. My first time launching MM 2.0.1 this did not take place (understandably), I went to "settings" in MM and saw no MAC for my GPS device (understandably too). I pressed "scan" and the MM began scanning....never found anything. The reason was that I had not ( and MM had not ) launched the N800 BT. I think you should not scan without insuring the user (or MM) has first turned on the BT within the N800. This is not a criticism in any way. It is an observation, and I think you will agree a tiny addition to your code would take care of this in a up coming revision. All in all, Maemo Mapper is an awesome application. It is my first GPS toy, and I bought a BT GPS unit last week solely to play with MM on my N800 ( which I have had for 3 weeks now ). Congratulations on an excellent piece of software. I am going out for a 35 mile drive in the car now to play with MM 2.0.1 M5 |
Re: Maemo Mapper v2.0
Libxau0 missing is what I got on the 2.01 and this one just don?t install. guess I am missing some sort of file that others got..

Re: Maemo Mapper v2.0
Looks like sarahn (same gps) and coldstream (different gpps) are reporting the same issue. I drove to work today and found that:
- Reboot is required to use the gps. otherwise it's just stuck at Establishing GPS fix - once it has lost a Gps fix (i.e. going into a tunnel) that's it, need to reboot to get it working - closing and opening the program doesn't help - reset bbluetooth (manually or via the menu item... i rtfm, your welcome) doesn't help - throwing a tantrum doesn't help (actually, i learned this prior to this current problem... but not soon enough) Still unsure how to capture the nmea stream... though it's definitely acquiring a fix, just MM isn't picking it up. |
Re: Maemo Mapper v2.0
[I posted this before in the wrong thread]
Just FYI, the help displays fine (i.e. it falls back to english) with the n800 in spanish. I'm using the latest firmware but it should work equally well with the previous one (since the only change was the kernel). |
Re: Maemo Mapper v2.0
Just upgraded to 2.0.1... now it doesn't start. Starting MM in an xterm gives me *** glibc detected *** double free or corruption (fasttop) 0x00076530 *** aborted
rebooting doesn't help that I can tell... Tim |

Re: Maemo Mapper v2.0
Was having the same problem as Rocketman. After using autorotate, I could not get North up to work again...no matter what I tried using the menu options. However when I read the post about the Dpad keys being remapped unless I had previously changed the settings, I mapped up=N up. Then I used that button it worked. Guess this is a minor bug.

Re: Maemo Mapper v2.0
I had had some minor difficulty with 2.0 and 2.0.1 even though I removed the old maps. What would happen to my N800 was MM would appear to launch, then vanish consistently after it said it successfully installed. I looked through the list of running processes on my N800 and MM was not in the list. Repeating the launching, resulted in the same vanishing failure. I probably had some corrupted MM database or MM config file lingering somewhere in my system. I did get some message about legacy maps being present, even though I had deleted all my old maps (many many megabytes).
I followed the author's xterm recommendation for a full purge of the old MM by doing what is found in the post linked below: http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...4&postcount=82 Then I reinstalled 2.0.1 (didn't bother with 2.0 anymore) and that fixed my problem (link above). MM 2.0.1 installed and launched nicely thereafter. The above link is part of this thread. It pays to read all the posts in this thread. That is how I found the cure I needed. M5 |
Maemo Mapper v2.0.2 Released
Maemo Mapper v2.0.2 is a minor bugfix release, fixing some GPS receiver communication issues, some drawing issues, and some crashing issues. It also fixes the remote possibility of corrupting the map database.
Please let me know if anyone else is still having GPS receiver communication problems with v2.0.2. (Note: until the repository is updated, you can use this link the v2.0.2 in the Maemo Mapper Garage page. Again, it is recommended to use this direct link only if you have already downloaded and installed a version of Maemo Mapper v2.x.) |

1. Have version 1.4(7). 2. Map all Dpad keys to something else. 3. Remove 1.4. 4. Install 2.0. 5. During first route, notice that I don't like autorotate. 6. Try to turn it off, rotate, do anything related to rotation using the menu >>> Nothing. 7. Remap up key to North up. 8. Press up >>> works as expected |
Re: Maemo Mapper v2.0
Bug?: If i open a bluetooth connection to phone before i start Maemo Mapper it doesn't find my bluetooth GPS receiver. So you need to start Maemo Mapper before opening internet via mobile phone. When Maemo Mapper is running you can disconnect and reconnect both phone and GPS bluetooth connection in any order and everything works fine.

Re: Maemo Mapper v2.0
I installed 2.01 as soon as it was in the repo, deleted my maps, deleted the mm map repos, but got stuck on the download. It said (and still says) 'An error occured while retrieving the repositories. The web service may be temporarily down.' I've used only the openstreet maps since yesterday, but since nobody else seem to have reported any issues with the download I think there must be something else wrong (than just the site being down). Any ideas?

Re: Maemo Mapper v2.0
The restart fixed the GPS connection problem for me but for some reason my zooms are only going to levels 0, 4, and 8. It skips all between levels. How do I fix this?

Re: Maemo Mapper v2.0
I apologize if this has been reported before but I did not get a chance to read all the posts. My bug is that MM 2.01 crashes every time I try and open a saved track. I have tried it with tracks created by 1.xx and by 2.0 (not with tracks created with 2.01). Is this expected behavior because of the zooming changes?
Also, I treid to download 2.02 from the link above and just got a blank page. Thanks, Fred |

My solution was to manually insert the URL for Google Streets and Virtual Earth Streets. I do not know the URL for the others (satellite imagery maps and Hybrid maps) so I don't have them for now. MM 1.4x spoiled me with all those other maps to chose from, MM 2.0.1 only gave me OpenStreets until I manually typed in the URL for the other two mentioned above. I thought this was temporary so I didn't bring up before today. I just tried it again this morning. Looks to not be temporary. Maybe it was fixed in 2.0.2? or maybe there really is a problem outside MM that is causing this inability to acquire the six maps repos that I was accustomed to in MM 1.4x Gnuite, can you give us the URL for Google Sat / hyb and VE sat / hyb repos so we can manually enter them into MM for now? I loved driving in a large parking lot and watching MM show me on a satellite image (actually an aerial image). It was a hoot. Thanks. |
Re: Maemo Mapper v2.0
Thanks, Gnuite, for addressing my Holux GPSlim 240 issue. Unfortunately, at the moment the 2.0.2 version is giving a blank page on garage, but I hope to try it out later when it works!

Re: Maemo Mapper v2.0
first, https://garage.maemo.org/frs/downloa....0.2_armel.deb is somehow an empty file, can't update to 2.0.2. maybe a garage problem.
second, the repo download doesn't work, it got broken with 2.0.1, in 2.0 it was fine. in the source, the url points to "http://192.168.1.2:8080/../repos.txt" instead of gnuite.com/../repos.txt. src/maps.c, line 1589. good job on 2.0 btw :) |
Re: Maemo Mapper v2.0
Is anyone else having trouble "dowloading" the additional map repositories? When I go into Mangage Repositories -> "Download..." I just get:
"An error occurred while retrieving the repositories. The web service may be temporarily down" I have connected via WIFI and have been trying for a couple days now.. |

As is properly documented, you select the area as the last two points visited, e.g. click to center on the diagonal corners you want, and that's your area. I'm not sure off-hand how this could be clearer without resorting to documentation, as you have... Good work with 2.0 - sorry for some of the avoidable hassle we users generate, and you should be proud of your creation. I'm looking forward to diving into the codebase some time and supplying patch upgrades... |

Maemo Mapper v2.0.3 Released
Maemo Mapper v2.0.3 is ready for release. You can upgrade it directly via the Application Manager or via the link at the top of this thread.
This is a quick bugfix release to fix the problem with the "Download Repositories" functionality. It also fixes some route saving/opening quirks. CHANGELOG: * Fixed download of map repositories. * Fixed output of altitude in saved track and route files. * Fixed minor bug in opening of track and route files. |
Re: Maemo Mapper v2.0
With V2.0.3 I still get a segmentation fault when I try to open track saved by maemo-mapper V2.0.2 or V1.4.7:
Code:
GLIB CRITICAL ** Gtk - gtk_tree_model_filter_row_has_child_toggled: assertion `elt->visible' failed |

Re: Maemo Mapper v2.0
I think it would be great to be able to download POIs centered at the current display location.
I tend to just pan around to where I'm interested in going, and don't bother creating routes to those places. None of the available "Download POIs" checkboxes gives the ability to download POIs right where I'm looking. At least it doesn't appear this is possible - only "Use GPS Location", "Use End of Route", or "Origin" (which needs to be filled out - a pain on the N800) are given. An additional checkbox for "Use Map Location" or something would be great. BTW - Thank you for this excellent application. I am very grateful for your hard work. EDIT: Oops - Mara is right (see next post). Tap-and-hold on a map location brings up a context menu, and POIs for that location can be downloaded using "Location->Download POI...". Sorry for the dumb question. |

Re: Maemo Mapper v2.0
I am having a hard time with 2.0.3. It crashes doing simple things like panning, or when I click on a location to centre the map. I do not have a GPS connected yet.
I followed the advice on another thread about a clean install. When MM loads now, it reports it cannot recognise the database. ------------------------------- UPDATE ----------------------------------- I deleted all my old map directories, and it works OK now. And no crashes so far. I found the defaults for the D-pad a bit unsettling, and have changed them back to panning. Only one very small gripe so far. If I quickly press the D-pad button two or three times to pan in a particular direction, some times MM doesn't pan at all. And a puzzle. If I drag the stylus across the screen, sometimes it drags the map, other times, it pans in the opposite direction. Why? |

Re: Maemo Mapper v2.0
It's probably already been pointed out, but I can't find it. Is there a way to download maps along a route?? I'll be driving out of AK in a few months. Would like to predownload the maps and put them on an external drive.
