I know, N770-Freak. I was referring to those who went directly for my dmesg output. I treasure my relationship with Nokia and don't want to damage it in any way.

Sorry if I got a little reactionary there. I'm going to have to stay up past 5 AM today and have been under a lot of stress lately outside of my blogging. Things are looking up: I gave my 2-weeks notice to my "evil" employer last Friday and arranged something better to start right after Thanksgiving. More money for me = more freedom to travel, get devices to review, and maybe hold more contests/giveaways. It may be a while before advertising supports all of it, but I love this platform (and yes, all of you :p) so much that I'll keep going the way I am.

I posted an apology to Nokia and accepted the responsibility of my own MAC. I hope we find other sources of this so I'm not the only one to blame for the leak!

But hey .... since the .bin image is not tied to any specific device, any one of the beta testers would have had the oportunity to share the image to say some swedish site? Too bad that u got into trouble :( Luckily I used the engadget method to get that image :D

I gave a lot of hints at the start of this thread you users to search for pic's posted on the web that show a MAC, I for one (and prob some other users) would not see any problems with you requesting the links especially the direct link to you dmsg post to deleted (people will always find a away to get a serial) if it is going to majorly harm your relationship with Nokia.

Yeah - It's a relief to me that I am not the only one who fudged it - but still the whole "NOT YOURS" ethics should go.

That being said, I want to try it too... But I know the limitations I am having in my N810 (specifically - waiting for software) so I want to keep an IT2007 and an IT2008 box around.

Users: Be prepared for a massive speed boost and prettier interface.

How to get a valid mac adress to put for the validation.

Pick a random number between 126409750144 and 126409842879. (those numbers are in decimal, not hexadecimal). Then google for "convert <number_you_picked> to hexadecimal" without the quotes.Take the hexadecimal result (it will say 0x<some_string> use the <some_string> part) and use it for the validation.

edit: you have to add two zeroes to the beginning of it too, see post below.

It looks like N810 mac adresses are all in this range, so if you pick a number from here it will work, but the number won't be from anyones specific device, so no one should get in trouble.

Took about 5 minutes to find this range trought some trial and error, maybe they should consider getting a more secure validation system :P

Also you have to add two zeros (that is 00) to the beginning of the number you get from google to get it to be the correct lengt.

The range all start with " 126409 " because that is the range of MAC ID's that has been assigned to Nokia ;
