Do they really need a validation system for software downloads? The question is: why did they make the download "available" if the new device isn't available yet?

And perhaps nokia will see that it is a good thing to release new software for everybody at the same time! Look at the old 770 trouble Nokia had, because they didn't release new software for it. More people will buy a tablet from nokia if they know that they will get new/better software as soon as possible!

This available software-image should be the official N810 release image. If that isn't stable enough for normal usage... i don't know.

Perhaps they should really think about official/unofficial betas...

thoughtfix,

I'm still waiting for my N800 to arrive but was curious about seeing the dmesg.

In any case I think it's good to have Linux and Maemo geeks poring through the "unofficial" OS2008 before its official release.

I think that public betas would be nice. But how much would a Joe Regular really contribute to the commynity? I bet there would be more *****ing about unstability issues and such.

I think the difference between normal Linux distributions and the Nokia ITOS isn't that huge. If Nokia gives people a good place to complain about problems or to give feedback, people will accept that. Launchpad (cononical/ubuntu) for example deliveres a good infrastructure for all kinds of feedback or ideas. "Normal" people can discuss things in a seperate user-forum.

There must be a clear difference between unstable/testing software and stable software. So that people don't think that they should use unstable software for productive usage. This works for all major Linux distributions.

Perhaps the ITOS is too closed for this kind of development.

The firmware was first "leaked" onto the site on the 09-11-07 but nobody was fast enough to get it before it was pulled :/

Thanks for that.

Hey thoughtfix, I wouldn't worry too much if I were you -
"For the courtesy of N800 users, we will launch the online availibility of the software during December with the OS2008 performance upgrade. Performance upgrade is based on early user feedback collected through November.

where does everyone think that early user feedback is going to come from now?

Oh, and one caveat about the current OS2008 working on the N800: when connected via USB it only presents one drive to the host PC.

Try this: /usr/sbin/osso-usb-mass-storage-enable.sh /dev/mmcblk0 /dev/mmcblk1

PM if it works.
I haven't got 2008 yet so it's not tested, but it could work

Is it possible to flash

http://tablets-dev.nokia.com/nokia_N...ED_MR0_ARM.bin

on to N800, without bricking it?

I pluged in the USB cable... and both SDHC cards were recognized by my Computer (Ubuntu 7.10). Perhaps you should reboot your device, convulted.
