well I admit that in the past few days i've noticed that when I have to walk across campus, i've been strategically planning my route to remain under wifi coverage as much possible. This is a little excessive, I don't need to be stopping on the sidewalk 7 times in a 10 minute period to carry on an IM conversation. maybe i need to teach myself to peck at the keypad while walking?

Re: addictive??

I'm an addiction doc, I mean I work with people with problems due to heroin, to cocaine, to alcohol and the so... and, well, yes I am addicted to my n800 :-0 (it's a joke, I am not *clinically* addicted) as well as I have been to a number of info gadgets, the first of whom was a texas instruments ti 57 programmable calculator.
How you know you are addicted to something? There are some official criteria which are quite generally used in clinical as well as legal environments, but, as a rule of thumb, when your interests and pleasures do get restricted to only one behaviour, or substance, which is repeated and repeated even in face of perceived negative consequences, and you possibly experience tolerance - in the sense you have to increase your dose of that behaviour to experience a good feeling - and dependence - without that behaviour or substance you feel bad -well you are addicted, and possibly you might need a professional help.
Now think of your use of the n800 or other gadgets and make your diagnosis by yourself...

Don't make me nervous! Such comments make me feel as giddy as an addict probably gets when he hears of new "stuff" coming into town "soon" :D

Re: addictive??

Well, debernardis has kindly raised the bar in helping me understand that maybe my answer should be a hesitant "no." But the N800 has sure worked its way into my life in a very short time. She's with me all the time I call her "Mandy." :D

I'm more the practical sort who has never bought (nor could afford) the latest gadgets. I don't own an iPod or iPhone. I do have a Sandisk Sansa that someone gave me which plays my favorite podcast while I mow the lawn.

But, the N800 has freed me to be out of the office yet still be available. I didn't even know about the internet tablet until a daily check of Bargain Jack had the Buy.com sale. (Plus I'm new to the Linux world and think Ubuntu is fantastic.) I'm waiting to install lots of applications until I read your reviews on the new OS. Sure, I could live without the N800. But, I sure enjoy having it.

(And, I'll add that the enjoyment has been greatly enhanced by this board and the information available from it.)

Well, to be real honest I got to say that I take my IT everywhere I go. Several times I even forgot to put it away when I was going to take a bath. Fortunately, it survived taking bath.
But right now I've given it to my brother so it's real hard for me to be addicted to IT right now

Addictive, absolutely. I keep referring to my 770 as my 'crack tablet' and everyone I know automatically understands what I'm talking about. :)

Re: addictive??

"Addictive"... doesn't even begin to describe it. Hell of a surefire way to get into trouble with you family, friends and workplace :-)

I'm never without mine. I've never had a portable that I enjoyed so much. Not even my Zaurus 5500.

The damn thing is welded to my hip, even while I'm at home. It's a blight that I can't be rid of. To all others: get out while you still can! ;)

Exactly!

When my friend asked my G/F what an N800 is, she said it's an extension of his arm that he does very important things on!:D

I can go for 5 minutes between checking for updates.

(Well... if I'm grabbing some coffee or going out for lunch anyway.)

Now we just need to get a playable MMORPG on it. Then we'll it will we can be evercrack tableteers. Or World of Warcrack Tableteers. Or something.

Actually I think there is a "fully playable" flash based MMORPG out there somewhere.

Can I admit to taking my n800 into the toilet with me instead of a magazine?

Probably not.

well am impressed with all of ye, but most of ye gave the answer that am looking for, its YES it is addictive, but i think its only maybe because i have it still new, maybe if i wait another afew weeks or months i might get sick of it and try to get something that is new out there...

when i bought the 770 i never heard of it before i was looking for a PDA to right my notes on it specially because am doing alot of things at the moment so i keep forgetting so i wanted something with remindes me of things, until i got the 770 oh my got what a machine its unreal thats what i can say,, + a person like me i like technology so i didnt mind it at all, the memory on my blackberry is full so thats why i got it..
i never worked on the Linux before i still find it a bit weird to go around it but i belive that am going to get use to it after a while..
yes i take it so far everywhere to the college to my friends house in the living room while am having my dinner of even in toilts (say nothing to that, someone has to do it) :)

I bought mine as soon as they were available. It was an often-used toy at first. Then it gathered dust for a while. It's only in the last few months that it has become really indispensable.

Despite my enthusiasm for GPS, PIM, OTG, etc, the real killer application for me is the ability to write things in text files. Out of habit, I still carry a notebook in my bag, but it is never used.

Nobody will dispute that, although if you're not using some external (BT) keyboard, you must be the worst handwriter in the universe. Handwriting (both on paper and on a computer screen) has these advantages for me:

1. It's a more "hands on" approach (well duh!) to writing; people with kinetic memories tend to remember handwritten notes better than typed ones,

2. when writing stuff by hand, I always can see both my hand and the written text at the same time. This is -- rare and sad visual impairments notwithstanding :D -- not possible with typing.

3. And most importantly: writing on a computer screen looks cool. Always, anytime and everywhere. Typing is dorky.

Re: addictive??

Also, of course, you can underline, circle, doodle, and scribble a lot easier when handwriting.

Theres some evidence on the net you're not alone:
http://tabletblog.com/2006/01/me-and-my-770.html

:D

I take it "there", too, of course, usually to "read the papers"... news-sites.
If you do this, too, take my advice: Switch your IM-status to unavailable/offline/away... dont let others know you're online. I forgot this once and it was very, very strange to accept a chat request right there and then...

Right! I could also stop anytime...if I want to. Now, to prove it, I'll just give you my tablet for a minute and you must promise not to give it back to me no matter how much I beg...
