I was within a hair of getting one of these. One of the Python forums I frequent mentioned that the Gp2x would run the Python language.

Then on the same forum somebody mentioned the 770. A simple comparison of the screen resolution sold me on the 770.

I mentioned this device when I first came on here. I was follwoing the development of this device for a while and was going to get this until I saw the 770. This gp2x doesn't have wifi, or touchscreen and lack usb host like the 770. But it does have dual cpu and every game emulator there is for this thing including MAME. Don't expect support if you get one of this device...it seems they don't speak english very well and even though it runs linux, the developer seem to lack the meaning of GPL. They don't want to release codes to developers. I'm glad I got the 770 instead of the gp2x. Check out the discussion on slashdot

I got both! the 770 is a totally different device. I use the gp2x for gaming only, I have MAME, NES, SNES,, GENESIS, SCUMMVM. it has better controls for gaming.

I've got both also. To tell you the truth I haven't played with the gp2x much. The gp2x and the 770 are two different animals. As far as screen quality, design quality and materials the Nokia beats it hands down. The Nokia's software is much more mature. The gp2x does take a standard sd card which is a plus, and is supposed to play games well, but I haven't bothered to try yet.

so does anyone know if programs for the gp2x could be ported to the 770 without much trouble? If that were the case, I assume we'd be seeing a lot of them around here. I can't find any info, but I don't understand why it would be very hard; as far as I can tell the two have very similar hardware (the 770 has a dsp instead of a second arm processor) and run on linux.

I almost bought a GP2X last Christmas. Didn't though. Now I got a Sharp Zaurus SL-C1000 shipping. I will probably be much happier with it. Right now there are still some quirks with the GP2X, it doesn't have any power management meaning that botch 200mhz processors are going at full speed all the time. This will be fixed in an update from GPH.

Seems like there are 4 Linux handheld communities now, GP2X, Nokia 770, Sharp Zaurus, and Linux for non-Linux embedded devices such as Palm and PPC.

I am waiting for one to get here. I bought it last week from the same site that you have linked to.

Does anyone know anything about the version 2 of the hardware? Apparently it's for sale, but I don't know where.
