Finally a way to get a decent Bible Reader on the Nxxx

Thanks to the new Access (Palm) Garnet Virtual Machine you can download the free OliveTree bible reader, a bunch of free bibles, and a bunch of free study guides, etc. and get them working better than any bible program available for the Nokia Internet Tablet.

Here are the links to download them:
The first link is to the Access Garnet Virtual Machine (Palm). The second link is to the OliveTree bible program.

Basically, you install the GVM first, run it, play with it, press the "Escape" button to end the program. Second, you download one of the free bibles that you need and unzip it onto your SD card. Last, from within the GVM, click the "Install" button, browse to where you unzipped the files and select the "BibleR+_english_368_193.prc" program. You will then click "Install" once again, browse to where you unzipped the files and select the "xxxx.pdb" bible that you wish to install. You can install as many bibles that you want and switch between them through the OliveTree menu.

I'm sorry the instructions weren't more thorough. Here is what it looks like:

No kidding. If it's really that important, you'd probably be better off just carrying a real bible. :\

Come on guys, would think that as in any electronic database the ability to search and access specific information quickly and efficiently would be the driver, not the nature of the material itself.

Munk, That is the first and only program I installed on the Garnett VM, screen is kind of small but readable. I've been using the PPC version for about 6 years now. You may want to check out "Bible Thumper" by Pat Double it is similar and has alot of features. I've been in contact with most of the companies that make Bible Readers for handhelds and only 1 of them gave any indication that thay "may" port thiers for the Nokia N8**'s but were not sure. Also look at the link below Aisu was kind enough to compile a command line Bible Reader for me, although it does not have Strong's Definition or Commentaries. it is very fast and has a very fast word search.

The main thing I like about the Bible Readers for the Handhelds is I can look up the original Greek or Hebrew word, it make it alot easier than looking up the word in the Strong's concordance then cross referencing the number.

The other thing is I can always have the complete Bible with me along with different commentaries. Like dblank said less stuff to carry around.

I'm still looking for a native Bible Reader that can look up the Strong's definitions along with Commentaries and the ability to put in your own notes.

There is one other, its gnomesword but it has to be put together and I am too new at this to do it. As for bible readers, thats all they are and maybe a search function but thats it and most users need more like notes, highlighting, strongs, dictionaries. So walking around with one small device is a lot easier than 4 books and they linked together.

I can understand the desire to consolidate and carry around less stuff, but I just never understood why a PDF reader wasn't enough.

Thanks for the enlightenment (not literally).
