770, 800 or wait fo 810?
SWMBO has authorized an 800 and I might be able to stretch it to an 810.
However there is a woot off going on and I expect a 770 for about $100 to $120. What's the community think? Prime purpose is to replace paper in pocket. I've had an HP95LX, 100LX, 200LX, and some compaq PDA's. I need documents at my fingertips and note taking capabilities. Internet connections a plus, don't care about builtin GPS much, KB is not worth $200. Any recommendations? 770 for about $100 (about 4 hours work) 800 for about $240 810 for about $450 Didn't expect the woot off for another two weeks. tia |
Re: 770, 800 or wait fo 810?
Since you aren't interested in GPS and think that the KB is not worth the difference in price between N800 and N810, I think you've already answered to yourself: N800.

N800 & get a bluetooth gps later.
I prefer bluetooth GPS as you can place it in a better position in your car as well as link it to different devices ie. laptops, cellphones, etc. |

I agree N800 is your better choice. Keep in mind that, so far, you will be unable to see and work with MS Office documents, just Word (I think).

Re: 770, 800 or wait fo 810?
Definitely sounds like an n800 is right for you. It'll have total software compatibility with the 810, and you don't care about the GPS or keyboard enough to justify the difference.
The 770 is definitely dirt cheap, but imo the n800 is cheap enough that even at $100 there's no sense going with a 770. |
Re: 770, 800 or wait fo 810?
I've held on to my faithful 770 for nearly two years, and just recently upgraded to a N800 off eBay now that the prices have plummeted. Honestly, the performance gap between the two is unbelievable ; even knowing about it beforehand doesn't prepare to the actual experience.
The 770 is still functional and useful, yes ; but it will never run OS2008 and above like the N8x0 do, and a lot of existing and future apps will not run on it at all. If keyboard and GPS are not essential, it's clear that for a first buy a new (or almost-new) N800 is the sweet deal right now, as it has the exact same hardware specs and performance, plus two full-size SDHC slots... edit: sorry for the redundancy - when I started to type there were no responses to your question, but I got interrupted and by the time I finished there were more than enough. But I guess you get the picture here :-) |

This response in particular. Now come on woot - offer me an N800 for $150 :) |
Re: 770, 800 or wait fo 810?
n800 to me would be best value since a n800 and bluetooth keyboard would run about $100 cheaper than an 810.

Fry's has Nokia LD-1W Bluetooth GPS Receivers for $37 right now. Get yourself an N800, with a couple of cheap 8gb SDHC cards, a GPS, and a Stowaway bluetooth keyboard for less than the cost of an N810. And get it right now, not in a month.
