I already tried. Their webpage requires a Canadian address :(. Maybe somebody need to give them a call. Or try you friendly Dell USA, $270 + saleTAX, free S/H.

BTW, did Mr. sungrove search, or is the 'implied' title acceptable to the police? Bend over...........:p

Hey, you should buy one, you're going to like it! I was holding onto my 770 for a long time before deciding on a N800. True, the 770 can do a lot of thing, but the N800 is a calibre different. You goin to like it, trust me. I am lookin for my 2nd and 3rd N800 in the next couple of month for my family. I want to wait till the dust are all settle after the launch of the N810. BTW, I should say I manage a N800, I do not have one. I bought the N800, my wife snatched it from me and left me with the 770. True, the 770 can do what I need, but the N800 is more fun. And my computer iliterate wife took it, says how 'sexy' is the N800.

Whoa, Dell is an American company with a branch plant in Canada. Dell Canada's prices have usually been much higher in absolute terms than Dell US prices, but lately the special deals have been pretty good.

There is a delicious irony in your question as most Canadians have been trying to figure how to buy from American companies that only ship to the US. I am currently waiting for a delivery from Amazon.com to the UPS Store in Ogdensburg, NY. This involves driving to/from NY, going through customs twice and paying the bridge toll twice. It is still a good deal.

We have UPS Stores in Canada, maybe they will do the same deal that the US UPS Stores do, $5.00 to use their address and hold it for you. Got a passport? You will need it to get back into the States:)

Delicious eh? ;) Well we wouldn't need to ship to UPS. We do have relatives in Canada.( Victoria) My wife doesn't want to bother with that though. I'd just have to lure them down here with something to get the Nokia from them I guess. I suppose the question is whether I would also need to use a Canadian credit card or a card that has that Canadian address I use. Sorry, I'm a bit ignorant about all that. With the size of credit card companies these days, I suppose credit card companies are somewhat international. But I have no experience with that. So when you do find a USA company willing to ship to Canada, I guess maybe there are extra taxes and other fees? How smoothly does it go?

I have in the past added the 'ship to' address as an alternate with my credit card company. In terms of extra fees... gst and duty if the parcel crosses the border. And if a courier is involved, a hefty brokerage fee.

First of all, it was a one day deal and the prices are back to roughly the same as Dell US prices - which are not that bad, not great, but not bad.

I don't know, but I have never had a US company refuse my Cdn credit card even if they refuse to ship to Canada. I don't suppose Cdn companies would have a problem either. I just specify a different billing address to my shipping address.

The real killer is brokerage fees charged by the courier companies. They are usurious, and you usually have no idea what they will be until they show up at your door with the parcel. USPS-->Canada Post is ok, I think it is $5.00 now (used to be $2.00) but I have been charged a significant percentage (40%) of the value shipment by courier companies. They are crooks, all of them.

As far as taxes are concerned, if shipped from US to Canada then I pay Canadian taxes and I guess the reverse is true. If shipped to a US mailing address then I pay state staxes if applicable and then Canadian taxes when I bring it across the border. Still better, much better, than feeding the courier companies.

WoW, WoW, WoW, this is totally off topic, but I just cannot help to wow it. Both the quoted post (thread #17) and the one immediately below (thread #18) are talking about exactly the same topic and the same idea with even the same wording, the word 'one'. So I looked at the header, both are stamped 9:35 pm, umm, the difference is less than seconds, but still, one of you did not SEARCH before posting,............., bend over........now.

I got mine today from Dell... Great device...

My only problem is now with Ebay / Paypal: I sold my 770 to someone who turned out to be a crook. Item was shipped (after the buyer paid) - and now paypal took the money out from my account... No 770 - no money...

Heard from Dell...

"Thank you for contacting Dell Customer Care.

Our records indicate there is an unforeseen shipping delay from our manufacturer on order number xxxxxxxxx. The manufacturer's estimated time of availability is December 18, 2007. Unfortunately, we are not able to expedite your order. However, arrangements have been made to contact you once the product does ship, to provide you with the Purolator tracking information.

I do apologize for any inconvenience this delay may have caused."

Looks like maybe in time for Xmas.. Wonder if they sold more than expected, or....???

Cheers

Dell surprised me too.
Status changed to "shipped" last night and arrived this morning. I saw the purolator truck and i said to the guy "no....no way it's that fast"

been playing with it all day.

UI takes some getting use to as with all UIs.
Screen is nice and crisp just as i expected.
Sound quality is way better than i expected.

only complaint i have is that some pages don't load very well. layouts become disorganized on some and very laggy on some.

not gonna make the switch to os2008 yet. gonna wait till i get sick of os2007

Some thoughts:
- screen is excellent, far better than any I have used in the winMobile world
- Form factor is great. Nice useable size, The stand is very handy.
- Flashing from XP (ok, I know, I know, but until there are Unix versions of the software I NEED to run, thats what I run (and don't tell me about WINE, no joy there) to OS2008 was painless. Hardest thing was getting fat fingers to hit the correct keypress timing to gey the USB prompt.
- Battery life so far, is extremely good. Better than the WinMobile devices I have owned, not as good as my Newtons
- web application/repo install sucks, mostly from the server side.
Nokia really needs to look at the infrastructure behind this.
Too many retries needed for sucess, too many server side connection issues. This needs to be fixed, it really makes the device look bad. Too many failed catalog refreshes.
- FbReader is a must have app, I've started converting all my e-books over to html.
- Video converted with the Nokia converter works very well. I converted some episodes of Fred Dibnah from DVD, and they play
VERY well, just as nice, if not better, than on my daughters Ipod.
- This thing needs a nice case with screen protection,as well as a good screen protector. Time to search around.
- The earbuds are painful. I'll have to see if my Koss work.(I don't need the mike). It would be nice to listen to Sirius in the liveing room, simply by turning on the Sirius radios FM transmitter function. (the Sirius reciver is hooked up into our stereo system, as broadcast radio up here sucks)
- Wireless connectivity is excellent, config was painless.
- Found the internal SD slot a bit finicky, but it works.
Looking forward to the release of the final version of OS2008..

Thats it for now..
Cheers
Harold

My poor Palm Tx, is collecting dust!
Used to tinker on it for good fun, but this new N800 with OS2008 is just captivating.
...even swiped the 4g SD from the ol TX! :)

I miss the somewhat fancier and crisper OS2007 look though, but heh, translucency is very nice in OS2008 as well as the faster feel of the system.

Re: Nokia N800 Internet Tablet @ Dell Canada for $199

I checked today for mine that I got from Dells Days of Christmas. They say it should come from their supplier on Dec 22nd. So little chance of me getting mine before Christmas. Only slight bonus is that I have that whole week off, so can only hope it will ship just after so I can play with it for a few days. Maybe I will get one that already has OS2008 on it.
