WEP cracking

just for the sake of education, of course - has anybody here gotten AirSnort, WEPCrack or any other program that does this working on the N770?

Would be a great "feature" ;-)

Yes of course ! It was one of my top interests in the buy of the N770.
Imagine you can sniff and slow down an entire hotspot while keeping your hands in your pockets.

I have airsnort for ARM but the wireless adapter (part of the TI's OMAP) doesn't seem to be a good chipset for airsnort.

What about kismet or another wardriving tool?

Playing around with Whoppix on my P4 3ghz and seeing the amount of processing power required to get any results, I don't think a 220mhz processor would cut it... unless you stand there for a few days, but that's just me.

How about just a decent NetStumbler/WAP scanning application?

ie. One that gives more info like SSID, Managed/Unmanaged, Type of Encryption (WEP/WPA/WPA2), Channel, MAC address, Signal Strength/Noise, maybe even integration with a GPS unit?

That would be pretty cool even without the "cracking" features.

According to various dev lists, the latest ROM should support RFMON mode in the WiFi driver. We just need someone who has the dev environment set up to poke around until it compiles and works.

Bueller? Bueller?

I'd be glad to beta test with gpsd!

I am holding out on getting a new gps systesm till I see wardriving tools. Then I will get a nice new bluetooth gps system. Until then I will stick with my old Magellan. By the way thoughtfix do you think that the 770 would work well for geocaching?

That's relatively easy to write. I have been using such a script for 2 months in order to map WiFi points while walking. Very convenient.
The same script is used to map GSM BTS.

zoog: It would be cake to have someone write a geocache app. Tap in coordinates and it tells you "yards" and "direction"

How about publishing that script? Could be useful for people here.

Ton.
