I've read through the thread, and I'm confused as to what apps will be compatible on a computer (Win, Mac, or Linux, version, java or native, settings to make it compatible with pwsafe) and how to move the password file back and forth safely from computer to tablet. I need a how-to that will "sell" this aspect of the tablet to others and me.

For example:
1. install pwsafe on the OS2008 N800 device.
2. install ??? on MS Windows
or ??? on Linux
or ??? on OSX
3. To sync, copy file ??? from Windows to ??? on the N800.
4. To sync, copy file ??? from the N800 to Windows.

And so on.

On Linux I use the java form, which is PasswordSafeSWT available from http://passwordsafe.sourceforge.net/ as "Java Passwordsafe" in the downloads section. I downloaded it and it Just Worked on Centos and Fedora. (I haven't tried it on other OSs but it should work on Macs. MS Windows users should use the "passwordsafe" download on the same page.)

When you first fire pwsafe up on the tablet or on linux you enter passwords then save those in a file. You copy that file between the tablet and the other machines you want to use passwordsafe on. When you open passwordsafe on the tablet or other machines you can open that file.

The tablet UI is a little annoying in that you say you want to make a new entry, you are presented with a form, but until you hit the edit button you can't enter anything. That's the only gripe I have.

As I note above, you need to save the file as filename.dat

Hm I'm seeing the current desktop versions starting with 3.17 (Windows version) aren't able to export dat files for 1.x or 2.x that the Nokia one can't use. It doesn't recognize the version. pwsafe 1.5.0c is on the tablet.

I've never used password safe but I'm currently using gringotts for my sensitive data, both on the NIT and on my ubuntu box(es). So far, so good.

GtkBuilder - http://www.mail-archive.com/devel-an.../msg00394.html - so I guess pyring just needs updating.

I haven't tried the latest version of PasswordSafe but recently some developers worked on a bug I reported on compatibility between a Windows desktop and the tablet version. My bug turned out to be a duplicate of this one:

I'd try it out but my personal laptop is off for repair far away.

I tried the Mac version of PasswordSafeSWT and Loxodo. And its data file cannot be opened by N900. It complains about wrong password. ( I used scp to transfer files from Mac to N900.)
