Nice update to iTablet. Now users may customize the images of each button easily and simply. Enjoy :)

Re: iTablet 0.04

Nice app. Is it intentional to have images in the first, third, fourh, and fifth columns? Nothing in column two.
It's nice that you can change the images but it would be nicer to be able to change the app. I.E. Modest instead of the supplied email client?

Re: iTablet 0.04

Yes and Yes.

The icons are intended to be spaced (more iPhone-like and nicer to look at) and it is very simple to change what the buttons launch. Simply click on the gears button and you will be presented with a dialog that allows customization of the launched program and of the button's image. :)

nspeer 2007-12-17 23:24

Re: iTablet 0.04

If I want to change an icon with settings, how do I find the specific icon? For instance, I use GPE-to-do list. It has an icon of a clipboard. How do I browse to the folder containing that icon so I can change to it?

Aisu 2007-12-18 00:20

Re: iTablet 0.04

1. Start iTablet
2. Click on the Gears button
3. Select whichever icon you wish to change (probably the calendar in this case)
4. Click "Select Image" (you will have to find out where the GPE icon is stored on your own)
5. Change the command to whatever it is for GPE To-do

Re: iTablet 0.04

Thanks Aisu for this delightful addition to the IT!

One of the first things I did after getting my N800 was to make a local web 'home page' that emulated the ilook...I called it the 'iphony'. It was limited to bookmarks, tho, and, in fact, your neat little app is just what I really wanted, in spite of the existence of both IDEA and SimpleLauncher :) Then, bam! You got it! And if that wasn't enough, well, I also wanted to make my own icons in the istyle, so to speak, and now, bam! again. Xlnt.

Now, what I would really like to do is learn how to make an app like this! Of course, I haven't the time or tools to do that yet, so in the interim, I rely on smart people like you to make them for me. Thanks again.

This forum does indeed 'rock'!:D

Re: iTablet 0.04

Maybe I just don't know what the iphone display is supposed to look like but it seems that the second column being blank is not supposed to be that way.

Clicking on the gears allows one to change the icon but does not, as far as I can tell, allow you to change the app launched by clicking a specific icon. :(

Re: iTablet 0.04

I think the iPhone separates out a row of "important" applications. I don't quite understand why they do this either. If iTablet allowed all grid spaces to be filled (or blank), users could choose whether or not to keep the blank row.

There has also been some talk of allowing custom arrangement of icons. iTablet 0.1?

paulmorin 2007-12-18 04:32

Re: iTablet 0.04

How about changing the launched application?

Aisu 2007-12-18 11:34

Re: iTablet 0.04

@paulmorin: See this picture?

http://bp3.blogger.com/_28Zw5TZMEl8/...vLs/s320/4.png

Where it says "/usr/bin/browser" That is the application. That is all you need to change. It can be set to run any command, but it has to be the path to the program.

@slim: And, yes, movable icons are next :)

@Greyghost: Thanks a lot, I love to hear people just using it, much less enjoying iTablet :)

Re: iTablet 0.04

Questions:
Your buttongraphics are png?
Which Dimensions?

...

An app-browser would be a nice feature.
So you don't have to know which "command" launches wich app.

Aisu 2007-12-18 22:00

Re: iTablet 0.04

@vims: Yes, they are png files, the dimensions are currently 130x130

An app-browser... I would have no idea where to look for one in python... And building one myself would be a complete ***** at the moment... Right now I'm completely redesigning the configuration tool before I go any further (As you can see, a dialog box with more dialogs simply doesn't cut the mustard). I will work on that browser, it would be very practical for users. Thanks for the suggestion :)

Re: iTablet 0.04

I for one would like to see more icons. You'd probably have to make the icons smaller to do that. Maybe you could give us the option of adding more icons and the option to change the scale of the icons.

good work!

Hmmm, another great idea :)

So much work to do! Thanks a lot, will see about it soon.

I have downloaded some iphone icons from ModMyiFone.com but they are all much smaller than the ones you used (although many of them appear to be the same icon you used). What size are yours? Did you resize standard sized iphone icons? How?

Earlier he mentions that the icons are 130 x 130 (pixels). You should be able to resize the icons using an image manipulation program such as GIMP.

Aisu, you've got my head turning with each update...as soon as I see it I have to go install it and try it out! I saw the release of .05, and just now got home to give it a go.

Hmmm...I had to look at the video again, because at first, I couldn't figure out how to make the settings part work. Then, I realized that in my version, I can't see any text 'tags' to touch. Just a black screen.

The 'hotspots' are there, tho. I know because just playing around, I touched the black screen and 'voila', I could see the interface, and it worked (that is, image changed successfully)! So, have I missed a setting...perhaps it's black text on a black background:)? Or is it a new feature...stealth mode:D? That'd be cool. Re-install? I will, tomorrow.

Seriously, I've said it before. Great app. Thanks for making the tablet fun! And, I love where (I hope) you are going with it (allowing resizing and changing of the grid, yes?)

I look forward to seeing the next head-turning model on the showroom floor!

Re: iTablet 0.04

VEEEEEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRRRRRYYYYYYYYYYYYY NICE!

Direct support for the existing iphone-icons wpuld be nice...
But I don't know which file-format apple uses... *g

Aisu 2007-12-19 11:34

Re: iTablet 0.04

@Greyghost: Thanks a lot :D Stealth mode sounds fun, but isn't intended, hm... I will have to release 0.06 with white text instead of the grey labels, hm... Resizing on the fly is going to be hard, but the grid is about third on my list of priorities. (Icons can actually be arranged by swapping one image and command for another, it is just reaaally tedious) I've got another neat trick you should see in 0.06 ;)

@vims: You mean the icons in the configuration tool? That is a good idea, but it is going to grow with the app, and will eventually need to be more specialized than what it is. Thanks again :)

Aisu 2007-12-19 21:24

Re: iTablet 0.04

Ok, small update. I have fixed the blip that occurs when switching from the actual launcher to the config utility, no more seeing the maemo desktop :)

Next is that I am working on a feature to display new rows of icons at the click of a button, but I need some ideas of what they should launch... Lemme know, k? ;)

Thanks!

nspeer 2007-12-19 21:44

Re: iTablet 0.04

Did you post an update somewhere?
I would like to see icons added for File Manager and FBreader.

also, on my OS2006 770, if I open an app like GPE Calender, To-do list or contacts, or the calculator for example and I open them from my regular desktop while iTablet is running, I can leave them open and then click back to the iTablet desktop. However if I open them by clicking their icons from iTablet, if I leave them open and try to go back to iTablet desktop, all I get is a white screen. I have to hit the "home" hard button to get back to my desktop where the other app is open.

Aisu 2007-12-20 00:30

Re: iTablet 0.04

@nspeer: File Manager is the Flower Button, FBreader will need to be customized by you, unless I decide to stop being a lazy bastard ;)

I thought I had fixed the white screen, I haven't gotten it anymore on my 770, but I guess I will have to take a look.

New release is will be posted momentarily.

I can work SVN ;)

iTablet website is now here: http://itablet.garage.maemo.org/

iTablet version 0.07! Almost to 0.1, where it will be in beta stage... But, for now, updates and loads of bug fixes. The most obvious update is the change of icons, so I don't incur the wrath of the great fruit.

I somehow messed up the app association to the flower icon. What is the File Manager called? /usr/bin/osso_???for file manager

thanks,

Re: iTablet 0.04

Even with the latest update, my 770 now goes to "black screen" instead of a "white screen" if I "minify" an app (leave it running) and try to switch back into iTablet. Any idea what's up with that.

My 2 cents worth:
I like the extra row of icons and wish that you didn't have to click the apple icon (settings) to display them. It'd be ok with me if they were always displayed. I also wish that one could change the settings icon like the other icon images could be changed. I'd go ahead and put the "gears" one back myself...l like it better. I understand why you took it off in v.7, but Apple isn't coming after me if I change it back to "gears"!

iTouch is a great app that keeps getting better. Thanks,
Neil

Aisu 2007-12-21 15:30

Re: iTablet 0.04

I have no idea why your tablet does that, absolutely none. Mine has ceased doing that since 0.06 release... Hm... I will try to make whether the icons appear by default customizable :)

I like the new icons, but yesh, anything goes in iTablet ;)

Oh, and if anyone is wondering, all setting remain when upgrading to the latest version (or they should ;)). So that means any custom icons or application you set will stay after and upgrade.

nspeer 2007-12-21 15:56

Re: iTablet 0.04

FYI, it only happens if I open the app using iTablet and then try and leave the app running a switch back to iTablet. If I open the app from my regular desktop while iTablet is "minified" and still running, then I can switch back to iTablet with no "black screen".
thanks,
Neil

Aisu 2007-12-21 16:31

Re: iTablet 0.04

That is odd... I think I actually might know why, I'll needa check on that (if it is what I think it is, I have to re-write the whole damned fuctions file :( )

But, there is a new version that acts VERY different in how it handles the new windows opened... Maybe you'll like it? https://garage.maemo.org/frs/?group_...elease_id=1287

Re: iTablet 0.04

I've just downloaded and installed the 0.08 version on my N810. When I try to start via Extras->iTablet nothing happens. Am I missing something?

update:
I tried launching it from the terminal which gives:
~sh: ./iTablet: not found
this is in /usr/bin and the file iTablet is there. Unfortunately the file command is not there so I cannot check if it's a proper file.
update 2
I copied iTablet to my PC and found out that it's a Python app :o Unfortunately I cannot install python ATM it gives the dreaded "Installation file corrupted".

Aisu 2007-12-22 03:13

Re: iTablet 0.04

Oh, ehm, yes it is a Python app (just been having a little trouble setting dependancies... sorry bout that ^^' )

Well, for the installation of python, just keep trying to do it from the command line as root using:

apt-get install python2.5-runtime --fix-missing

until it works (or just wait till server clears up) ;)
