Re: Nokia Releases First Official OS2008 Update

Has anyone been able to download the N810 image file? I've entered my Nokia N810's WLAN id into http://tablets-dev.nokia.com/nokia_N810.php, and I get:
Quote:

An error occurred while processing your request.

Reference #97.442142d8.1198004974.1651ada0
...is that a denial for N810, or an obtuse scream for help from an overburdened server?

I haven't been able to find any mirrors for the N810 image, only the N800. Assuming I can find one or download it direct from Nokia, I'd host a N810 image myself. :)

Re: Nokia Releases First Official OS2008 Update

Can someone PLEASE post a link to the 810 image? We've got at least 10 links for the 800 and none for the 810? What gives?

@sondjata: I use flasher-2 .0 on my MacBook Pro, and it works fine. No need to mess around with Windows VMs.

Yeah thanks! I did find it in another thread. The nokia dev servers are extremely busy, I keep getting 'gateway timeout errors'. But alas I have to wait for my N810 to arrive so no biggy.

Zerojay, I was able to pair my BlueAnt A2DP headset with my n810 after the latest OS upgrade. I was not able to get this device to work at all before. Unfortunately, it looks like it is only showing hands free profile and headset profile, not A2DP. Any audio I play seems to be monaural, although it comes out of both ears. An improvement to be sure, but I would kill for A2DP support that just works without needing to create shell scripts...

FWIW, I've been trying for >2hrs and I keep getting the same error message. I think it's an obtuse scream

Doesn't really matter, because I can't download the Linux Flasher either and one really isn't any good without the other.

I got that error too - just keep reloading the page. I too wish there was a mirror for the 810. I've got almost 42 Mb downloaded (only 4.5 hours left!).

Yeah, twice today actually. But as noted before, I cannot get it up to jablet.net. I will try uploading to another site later.

Texrat,

PM me and I can send you a login to my ftp server. If you can get me a copy of the N810 image, I can mirror it there.

Thanks,

Texrat,

Your PM inbox is full, tried PMing you with another FTP account and server to use. Check the email account you have registered with ITT. :) I'll offer up another server and bandwidth as well.

Thanks! :D

Also, for those who have already downloaded N810 firmware but are unable to host the image, it is very easy to start a bittorrent. Download the client at bittorrent.com/download and hit Ctrl-N.

Re: Nokia Releases First Official OS2008 Update

MAny Thanks to Wjanowski and all who mirrored this. I was working on my main PC thru VPN and couldn't download. I had set one of my extras to download from Maemo, and after 2 hours (unattended of course), I still showed 2 hours left!

Brought back memories of dialup and 5.25" floppies...

And sorry guys for not noticing my inbox was stuffed. I cleaned out a few but have many more to go.

I know how to host a torrent, but I'm not doing it from my work laptop. Maybe later from home PC.

I'll leave it up until my ISP starts to whine about the traffic.

Many thanks! Just got it in really about five minutes at 300kbs using 'Speed Download' on my Mac. Not bad considering the Bell Wireless Unplugged internet connection can be fussy speed wise.

It's not the millions of NIT users overwhelming the servers. It's a bandwidth problem that Nokia has yet to solve.

millions? maybe it's BILLIONS!@#

I'm sure they're aware of solutions.. they just don't love us enough :(

of course if they really wanted millions of users it might be a good idea to keep the few hundred thousand of us that do own the devices happy...

No, it's not millions, but every time something big gets released like an OS revision, it gets hit hard and it's obvious that it's just the amount of people hitting it. What other reason would it be when everything works just fine any other day?

Re: Nokia Releases First Official OS2008 Update

how do casual users find out about the update and jump to download it?
i think official N800 site does not even mention the update yet. 2007OS is listed. (OS 2007 edition v. 4.2007.38-2)

edit: i guess its different whether you check europe.nokia.com vs www.nokiausa.com

When i connect to the Nokia Updater Software, it now says that there are no updates available for my device, and only has a "Browse my computer" option for other files... Whats going on ?

You have to manually download the update to your PC. You can find many download links in this thread.

Then, return to the screen you saw and browse for the downloaded .BIN file that contains the last version of OS2008.

Good luck ;)

I used the N800-image torrent here:

Must faster than the official site.

technut 2007-12-18 21:35

Re: Nokia Releases First Official OS2008 Update

p.s. After you update the OS, when you try to restore your old apps you'll find that the Nokia and Maemo repositories are just as bogged down. And no easy workaround for those.

Alex2007 2007-12-18 21:35

Re: Nokia Releases First Official OS2008 Update

If i have to download the file manually outside of Nokia i need to find it hosted somewhere, and i cant find any N810 OS image downloads... I'm new to this Nokia Internet Tablet and find it hard to believe that a simple update brings the Nokia Updater Software completely down.

I'm sure it will be available soon, but there cant be any excuses for such poor service.

yes, but it doesn't quite jibe with your response, Jeff. Looks to me like Quim is saying the service *should* be better based on the requirements and money given to the provider. Ergo, Nokia isn't actually skimping-- a supplier isn't living up to their obligations.

Of course, the buck stops with Nokia. IMO this should have been tested.

EDIT: ignore first line in post. Of course it's Nokia's to solve, ultimately. I fritzed on your remark, sorry Jeff.

Re: Nokia Releases First Official OS2008 Update

Clearly "global caching" isn't working.

My request gets a service attempt by an Akamai server 37ms away from me; its the connection between Akamai's global content delivery service and *Nokia* which is faulty (504 Gateway Error).

Akamai should certainly be able to keep up with this; there is a Nokia-Akamai disconnect somewhere which hopefully someone at Nokia is following up on right now, not at the end of the day.

GeneralAntilles 2007-12-18 21:56

Re: Nokia Releases First Official OS2008 Update

Looks like a patch for the broken soft power-off didn't make it into this release. Stuck another couple months without this feature. Locking is such a PITA. :(
