If there's only a few ctrl sequences you need, you could add shortcuts, I have them for ctrl-an and ctrl-ap (for screen)

Ex.
<ctrl>a,n

The terminal is lacking the all-important Ctrl-p shortcut to go back through history. And that new Ctrl behavior (text input box pops up, keyboard disappears) is barely usable.

I need a fix for this! How do I add shortcuts?

EDIT: Answered my own question.

X Term menu -> Tools -> Settings -> Toolbar shortcut -> New

Title: Up
Value: <ctrl>p

(new again)

Title: Dn
Value: <ctrl>n

That's why to someone it was working with two fingers! it was actually registering a double-tap.

Damn them, why did they not put it into the help file at least ?
I flashed my tablet twice until I discovered it...
I've noticed that there was no "pressure" setting near the "activate by finger tap", so.. a ring rang ( :p ) in my mind...

Tried this and confirm this working!

I just have a feeling that this in NOT how it was intended to work... Just a single tap with a finger should be enough.

Just for your record, that with this time I did NOT restore backup, so do not blame restoring backup being a reason for this behavior.

Ha, yes. I get so touch-screen centred, I forget about the hardware keys entirely.

Sigh. Thanks for the reminder.

Looks like the softpoweroff bug from the Beta is not only there, it's gotten worse. Now when the machine is in softpoweroff mode, tapping on the screen produces a click AND turns the n800 back on!

So for now, I'm stuck with the "Lock Screen and Keys" mode. Unfortunately, when I'm in Lock Screen and Keys mode, it seems breathing on the machine wrong wakes it up. Shouldn't there be a timer to say user hit the power key (or unplugged the headphones, or whatever other triggers there are), but didn't press the center button in 5 seconds, so turn back off?

Which OS are you running on your desktop/laptop ?

I've heard Leopard is having issues about corrupting data on USB mass storage devices and, indeed, yesterday it was not able to copy off some pictures from my V640i SE phone in mass storage mode (the few that it was able to copy off from the phone were corrupted)
A lot of OSes, but the upgrade was made in Windows XP SP2, and my macs are still waiting for leopard 10.5.2 (I hope apple solves all the kirks of the 10.5 and 10.5.1 releases). I also heard (and experienced) some nasty bugs, like mail crashes, vents on all the time (in a macbook), etc.

Am I the only, who faces incorrect touchscreen tap place detection? Sometimes it misses totally O_o Like im pressing «B» on thumb keyboard and it indicates that «t» is pressed *_* . Calibrating do nothing. Very strange...

Hey, I can't seem to get my bluetooth headset to work now. It used to work (well sort of, sound was pretty choppy) with the beta, but it doesn't anymore. I can pair it, and the N800 recognizes that it supports HFP and HSP, but it just continues to play all sounds through the speakers and not through the headset. Is it just my stupidity? I can't remember having to do anything special to get the sounds to the headset in the beta. Any help is greatly appreciated. I have a motorola HT820.

Hey mikemx --- I REALLY appreciate you responding. This issue is driving me nuts because I can connect, but no information is sent back to the tablet. I've tried reboot, deleting/ adding profiles, and taking the batteries out. Tethering worked just fine on OS2007.

Have you upgraded to the latest OS2008, and does the tethering work for you still? The firmware on my 6680 is v5.04.07 15-02-06 RM-36

THANKS!!!

I have the same FW on the 6680 (v5.04.07). I initially encountered the
problem with the OS2008 "beta version" on the N810 but don't recall what
specifically fixed it. I've updated to the newest OS2008 version and it still
works fine (just tested).

Can you access the 6680 content with the file manager?

Yeah, I can send files back and forth via the file manager, bluetooth direct, but I can't connect to the net. I have t-zones and am using a proxy server (216.155.165.050 and port 8080). Seems like the proxy server settings aren't carrying over. What are your settings like?

Edit: I just bopped my finger on a text field and got the thumb keyboard. So I'm happy.

I seem to only need a single finger tap. I wonder how our settings differ? Maybe I should post a picture of my finger? There might be differences in bone structure or something...

On my tablet with a fresh and clean installation of OS2008 Final, the thumb keyboard does not pop out when I finger-tap a text box.
When I posted that comment the finger keyboard was popping out at every double-finger-tap (on Notes) and at many text boxes.
Now.. it does not work on almost any text boxes and sometimes on Notes. Actually if I triple-finger-tap fast the finger keyboard pops out for a fraction of a second and then disappears.

Moreover, when I use the finger keyboard in a chat with the built-in messenger, and I press the enter key, it behaves randomly: sometimes it sends the message straight to the peer, sometimes it leaves the text in the text box waiting for a tap on the green arrow (send).
In the Beta it used to also first send the text in the text box, then popped out the finger keyboad and when the enter key was pressed it was also sending the full text, like:

Hi how <finger keyboard on>
Hi how are you doing ?

Now it behaves almost similarly.
To make it short: finger keyboard is buggy.

I was getting this a little bit last night with just the thumbboard. I was tempted to blame it on fat-fingeredness since I was tired, but maybe not. Best bet is to open a bug.

Basically the next best thing to sliced bread and a good alternative to the 770's hardcover for the N800. It behaves basically the same as locking (also has some automated options for activating/deactivating offline mode), but is much easier to activate and deactivate. You can assign it to a longpress on the powerkey (the length of which can also be shortened), or to a double-press on the powerkey.

Much more convenient than that locking garbage. It's too bad they've broken it and wont fix it in a timely manner because it's not a supported feature. :(

Nevermind, taking the battery out and rebooting solved the issue.

Hi there,

got some problem too with the new OS version on my n810: everything went smoothly until it came to restore the applications. The Tablet makes several downloads just fine, then gets stuck in one (544kb) and can't go any further.

Anyone had the problem and solved it? Or maybe I shoud just re-install everything manually....

Thanks,

Dblank: Thanks. That makes sense, though it had initially been a bit confusing for me -- who asks whom? Is it the N800 that's always asking me, or am I the one who must always ask? I trust the latter is the right answer. Thanks again.

As has been stated before several times in this and other threads on the subject, the Nokia repositories are absolutely slammed, so it's unlikely that you'll be able to refresh them, let alond download application from them.

Give it a day or two and try again when things have calmed down.

Well, I threw in the towel and just restored my settings from a previous backup --- which then caused the connection to work. The only difference I found was that the proxy is now 216.155.165.50 instead of 216.155.165.050 --- the funny thing is that the latter address is what the autoconfigure process used. So, who knows... I may eventually reflash to start from scratch and see if this was what caused the issue, but for now, I know it works.

Question about the repositories, I just flashed the OS for the latest and greatest and worked fine, however I can not retore the applications. the log in application manager has alot of errors saying can't stat source packages you may want to run apt-get update to correct the problem. Is this a problem with the repositories being busy or do I have a problem? I try to install appplications manually and it just hangs on the progress bar??

Re: 2.2007.50-2 firmware bugs and issues

Couple of bugs found in the first 3 hours of using final OS2008 on N800:
-inability to invoke finger keyboard (as noting by Mara and others)
-up button on d-pad does not work when scrolling feeds in RSS reader (Filed at: https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2598)
-thumb keyboard cannot be invoked at all within Skype (even pressing center d-pad)
-moving/resizing desktop applets is frustratingly difficult, and they tend to move around when you put the tablet in your pocket. It would be nice to be able to lock them in place once you have set them exactly as wanted. (Many thanks to the poster who suggested quick movements--that helped, but it is still difficult to get them exactly where you want them)

I'll edit this post if I think of more...

EDIT: I just want to say that, for all the bugs we are reporting, OS2008 is really excellent. It is very attractive, very fast, and so far, pretty stable. Thanks to the Maemo team for all their hard work.

The issue is restoring from a backup ... not sure which part is causing the problem, but it's likely in settings If I had to guess. I've been able to restore my bookmarks and application list without killing the input though I chose to restore after the initial setup and not right after flash.

I would suggest a clean flash if you are having this problem or others. Seems to resolve my stuff -- though now I am stuck like everyone else with limited access to the repositories which are either unavailable (404) or just brutally slow with the activity we are all bringing.
